Overview TFSS - User s Manual OVERT (O) & COVERT (C) The Tactical Flotation Support System (Patent Pending) TFSS-5326, designed by PECI Flotation, L.L.C, is an inflatable aid to flotation device specifically designed for covert war fighters, combat swimmers, and/or maritime airborne operations personnel. It can also be used with the Survival Egress Air (SEA) during egress from a submerged vessel of any type. The TFSS-5326 was designed to provide 45 lbs. positive buoyancy in seawater at a depth of 33 ft., 57 lbs. of positive flotation at a depth of 15 ft., and 80 lbs. of flotation on the surface, allowing today s war fighter a maximum load-out of equipment. Each TFSS-5326 system consists of one each independent left and right hand units, which can be mounted on a belt. Each unit includes a welded flotation bladder, an inflation system, a pouch closure system, a pouch, and a firing handle. The bladder is a reusable welded fabric enclosure that deploys under the arm and is readily collapsed and stowed for future use. The inflation system utilizes a manually actuated CO2 cartridge for primary inflation and an oral inflation tube for secondary inflation. The TFSS-5326 pouch uses a unique Grommet, Loop, and Pin (GLP) closure system design that combines positive closure of the pouch with space efficient packing. This method prevents accidental pouch opening and allows for the smallest unit size when fully packed (approx 6.5" x 2.75" x 2.25"). A durable cordura flap to further protect against damage and inadvertent actuation covers the entire closure mechanism. The TFSS-5326 pouch contains and protects the bladder, inflation system, and closure system. It includes a waist belt loop and clip loops to secure the pouch to the webbing belt. The firing handle attaches to the outside of the pouch and uses color-coded beads to help distinguish left and right hand units. The handle serves to release the closure system and actuate the CO2 inflation system. To manually actuate a TFSS-5326 unit, the user pulls upward on the firing handle. This motion initiates two sequential actions. First the pouch closure pins are released, allowing the pouches to open freely. Second the manual inflator lever is actuated, causing the firing pin to puncture the seal on the CO2 cartridges to release the gas and completely fill the bladder. Should the CO2 inflation Page 3

Technical Specs & Parts OVERVIEW The system consists of a right and left unit independent of each other. Each unit includes a black (Covert) or yellow (Overt) in color, reusable welded flotation bladder made of 200-denier nylon, a camo green, gray, universal camo, coyote brown or black pouch, an inflation system, a pouch closure system, and a firing handle. INFLATION Inflation system actuated with two Leland 38 gram CO2 filled cartridges P/N 86121Z 2W134 (cartridge available separately) or through an oral inflation tube. SIZE & DETAIL Specially designed Grommet, Loop, and Pin (GLP) closure system prevents accidental deployment as well as compacts the pouch to a fully packed size of 6.5 x 2.75 x 2.25. System designed as a One Size Fits All system. BUOYANCY System designed to provide a minimum of 45 lbs. of positive buoyancy in seawater at 33 ft. and 80 lbs. at the surface. The overt system comes with reflective tape on the yellow colored bladder to aid in recovery in sea operations. FEATURES 1. Minimum Buoyancy per Unit: 40 lbs. lift in seawater, at the surface, with air and water temperature of 70 F (approximately 22 lbs. lift at 33 ft. sea water) 2. Minimum Buoyancy per System: 80 lbs. lift in seawater, at the surface, with air and water temperature of 70 F (approximately 45 lbs. lift at 33 ft. sea water) 3. Manual Inflation: Left and right manually operated CO2 systems 4. Oral Inflation: Left and right oral inflation tubes 5. CO2 Cylinders: Left and right CO2 gas cylinders 6. Corrosion Resistance: All parts shall be corrosion resistant in fresh and salt water 7. Rot Resistance: All fabric, webbing, and binding shall be rot resistant 8. Approximate Size per Unit: 6.25 H x 2.75 W x 2.25 D 9. Maximum Weight per Unit: 15 oz. with full CO2 cartridge 10. System Identification: Each pair is identified by the manufacture date and a space is provided for an organization s unique serial number. Left side unit identified with the suffix L ; right side unit Page 4

Wearing Instructions TFSS - User s Manual The TFSS-5326 is a one size fits all system that has been designed to accommodate the personal preference of the user for ease of wearing and comfort. It is an unobtrusive system that supports a myriad of missions. Note the practical uses as illustrated on this page. NOTE: When using the TFSS-5326 during parachute operations, units should be worn in front of body to avoid interference with the parachute. Page 5

Maintenance & Inspection PERIODIC MAINTENANCE 1. After each use: A. Rinse entire unit in fresh water. B. Allow unit to completely air dry. C. Apply a small amount of a silicon lubricant to all valves. D. Visually inspect all bladders for any damage. E. Replace unit if damaged. F. Weigh and ensure the minimum gram weight for replacement 38 gram CO2 cartridges are 147.0 grams. G. Repack unit in accordance with procedures. INSPECTIONS 1. Conduct annual inspection to consist of: A. Orally inflate and allow to sit for 24 hours. B. Thoroughly inspect unit for leaks. Replace if damaged. C. Inspect all valves to ensure they are in good working order. D. Re-weigh and ensure the minimum gram weight for each 38 gram CO2 cartridge is 147.0 grams. 2. Upon initial issue: The user is required to conduct an annual inspection and report any damage to the cognizant Page 6

Packing Instructions TFSS - User s Manual 01: Check CO2 bottle for proper gram weight. 38 grams CO2 cartridge = 147.0 grams 02: Ensure activation valve handle is properly seated and screw bottle into valve finger tight. 03: Rotate bottle back 180 degrees into container. 04: Fold bladder in half and fold the wing tips to equal the width of the packing container. 05: Tightly roll oral inflation end to center and insert into container aside bottle. 06: Ensure activation handle is free and clear and routed out of the container on the same side as actuator. Page 7

07: S-fold opposite side, evenly across entire package. Insert folded portion atop opposite side and bottle. 08: Pull bottom flap up over bladder assembly. Lay excess inflator firing cord along side of folded bladder and fold shorter flap down, engaging the hook and loop material to the bladder assembly. 09: Thread packing cord through upper and lower black closing loops. 10: Thread ends of packing cord through upper and lower grommets. 11: Pull upper black closing loop partially through the upper metal grommet, and insert closing pin. 12: Pull lower black closing loop partially through the lower metal grommet, and insert closing pin. Insert excess pin into small pocket at the bottom of the flap. Page 8

13: Close pin protective cover and mate hook and loop. Ensure all three snaps are snapped and mate hook and loop on the handle to the container. 14: Red bead denotes right side unit.
