Ed Orgeron Head Coach @Coach_EdOrgeron Overall Record: 26-31 LSU Record: 10-4 (Second year) Ed Orgeron, who led the Tigers to a 5-2 mark as interim coach over the final two months of the 2016 season was named LSU s permanent head football coach on Nov. 26, 2016, two days after the Tigers defeated Texas A&M, 54-39 to finish the regular season with a 7-4 mark. Orgeron, a native of Larose, Louisiana, is LSU s 33rd head football coach, and the first Louisiana native to serve as head coach of the Tigers since West Monroe native Jerry Stovall held the position for four seasons in the early 1980s. Orgeron, who has also served as head coach at Ole Miss and Southern Cal, is 12-4 in his past 16 games as a head coach. Overall, Orgeron has a 22-29 overall mark as a collegiate head coach, which includes a 6-2 record at LSU and a 6-2 mark as Southern Cal s interim coach in 2013. Of Orgeron s six wins in his LSU debut season, four came against Southeastern Conference foes and all were by double-digits. In his first game as LSU s permanent head coach, Orgeron guided the Tigers to a 29-9 win over No. 13 Louisville and its Heisman Trophy quarterback Lamar Jackson in the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl. The win against Louisville capped a remarkable turnaround for the Tigers under Orgeron, who assumed the role as interim coach of the Tigers a day after a disappointing 18-13 setback at Auburn. Orgeron wasted little time in getting the attention of the Tigers as he immediately instilled energy and enthusiasm into the program, shortened practices with crisp, high intensity workouts, kept the players fresh with more time in the meeting room and held the players accountable for all areas of the program. With the One Team. One Heartbeat motto, the Tigers seemingly became a different team overnight and the results that LSU sought soon followed. As the head coach of the Tigers, Orgeron said he was going to flip the script and he assigned a theme for the daily practices. LSU s practices have a descriptive name for each day of the week, one of the ways that Orgeron and his staff hold the players accountable and focused both prior to and during the workout. The daily practice nicknames are as follows: Tell the Truth Monday, Competition Tuesday, Turnover Wednesday, No Repeat Thursday and Focus Friday. Orgeron s first duty as interim head coach was to appoint veteran assistant and former LSU quarterback Steve Ensminger from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. The move paid immediate dividends as Ensminger injected life into the Tiger s offense by diversifying the play calling and bringing a culture of inclusion to the offensive staff room. In eight games under Orgeron, LSU set offensive records for most yards in an SEC game (634 vs. Missouri), longest scoring play from scrimmage (Derrius Guice 96-yard TD run vs. Arkansas), and twice set the school single-game rushing record (Leonard Fournette 284 yards vs. Ole Miss, Derrius Guice 285 yards vs. Texas A&M). Defensively, LSU held opponents scoreless for 15 of 32 quarters under Orgeron and limited the opposition to an average of 15.3 points per game over the eight contests. In 12 games, LSU allowed only 16 touchdowns all season, which led the nation. The Tigers also gave up just 1.3 TDs a contest, also first nationally. Orgeron originally joined the Tiger staff in 2015 as defensive line coach, before adding the title of recruiting coordinator in the spring of 2016. Prior to joining the LSU staff, Orgeron s last coaching stop came at Southern Cal where he served as recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach for the Trojans for four years (2010-13). Orgeron was elevated to interim head coach at USC for the final eight games of the 2013 season, leading the Trojans to a 6-2 mark over that span. Orgeron served two stints at Southern Cal, the first as the Trojans defensive line coach from 1998 to 2004. Orgeron coached under Paul Hackett at USC for three years from 1998 to 2000 and was one of just a handful of coaches retained by Pete Carroll when he took over as the Trojans head coach in 2001. Rivals.com and Sporting News named him the 2004 National Recruiter of the Year. On the field, Orgeron was part of a Southern Cal staff that led the Trojans to a 12-1 mark and an AP National Championship in 2003 and a 13-0 record and another national title in 2004. Orgeron left USC in 2005 to become the head coach at Ole Miss, where he went 10-25 in three years with Rebels from 2005-07. Orgeron spent the 2008 season coaching the defensive line for the New Orleans Saints and then joined Tennessee as defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator in 2009. He returned to Southern Cal following the 2009 season. Orgeron made a name for himself as a top defensive line coach at the University of Miami from 1988-92, where he coached eight All-Americans, including NFL first rounders Cortez Kennedy, Russell Maryland and Warren Sapp. In 1988, he was a graduate assistant at Miami, working with the defensive line. During his tenure, the Hurricanes won the national championship twice (1989 and 1991), finished second in the AP poll once (1988) and third twice (1990 and 1992) while appearing in five New Year s Day bowls (1989 Orange, 1990 Sugar, 1991 Cotton, 1992 Orange, 1993 Sugar). Orgeron also was a graduate assistant at Northwestern (La.) State, his alma mater, in 1984 and McNeese State in 1985, working with the defensive line at both schools, then was an assistant strength coach at Arkansas for two years (1986-87). As a player, Orgeron was a four-year starter on the defensive line for Northwestern State, captaining the Demons as a senior. He received his bachelor s degree in liberal arts from Northwestern State in 1984. He starred in football, basketball and track at South Lafourche High in Galliano, La. On the big screen, Orgeron played himself in the 2009 Oscar-nominated movie, The Blind Side. Born July 27, 1961, he and his wife, Kelly, have three sons, Tyler, and twins Parker and Cody. Tyler is a member of the LSU football support staff, while twins Parker and Cody are entering their second season as part of the McNeese State football team.

The streak was snapped in 2008 when LSU rallied for a 26-21 fourth quarter win at Auburn. 4 The home team streak started again in 2009 with LSU winning in Tiger Stadium, followed by an Auburn victory in Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2010 and an LSU win in 2011 in Baton Rouge. 4 Prior to the 2008 game, the last time a road team won in the series came in 1999 when Auburn posted a 41-7 victory over LSU in Tiger Stadium. Ironically, that was the fourth straight game in which the road team had won in the series. LSU beat Auburn at Auburn in 1996 and 1998, and Auburn won in Tiger Stadium in 1997 and 1999. Expect The Unexpected When LSU and Auburn Get Together 4 Since 1988, the LSU-Auburn series has become one of close calls and one in which the teams and the fans have come to expect the unexpected. The following is a listing of some of the notable happenings in the series since 1988. 1988: LSU s Tommy Hodson hit Eddie Fuller in the back of the endzone on fourth down with 1!41 left to lift the Tigers to a 7-6 win over fourth-ranked Auburn. The noise from the stadium crowd after the play registered on a seismograph across campus prompting the game to be titled The Earthquake Game. 1994: Auburn intercepted five passes in the fourth quarter, returning three for TDs as the Tigers rally to post a 30-26 win over LSU in a game that become known as The Interception Game. 1995: LSU donned white jerseys at home for the first time since the early 1980 s and promptly went out and upset fifth-ranked Auburn, 12-6. LSU preserved the win with an interception in the endzone on the last play of the game. The contest was dubbed the Bring Back the Magic game. 1996: With the old Auburn Sports Arena burning to the ground a couple hundred yards away, LSU beat Auburn, 19-15, in a game titled The Night the Barn Burned. 1997: Titled The Comeback, Auburn QB Dameyune Craig engineered a 10-play, 80-yard drive late in the fourth quarter to spark the Tigers to a 31-28 upset of 10th-ranked LSU. 2004: Titled The Call, Auburn appeared to have missed an extra point with 1!14 left that would have left the game tied at 9-9. However, LSU was called for a penalty on the extra point, thus giving Auburn a second chance at winning the game. The second PAT was good, and Auburn held on for a 10-9 win, snapping LSU s 10-game winning streak. 2005: Auburn missed five field goals, including one in overtime, as LSU held on for a 20-17 win over Auburn in Tiger Stadium. The win helped propel LSU to the SEC Western Division title and the game is now known as the Field Goal Game. 2007: Can t See Me Demetrius Byrd caught a 22-yard TD pass from Matt Flynn with just one second left to send LSU to a 30-24 win over Auburn in Tiger Stadium. The play seemed to have caught Auburn off-guard as the Tigers could have attempted a 39-yard field goal for the win. However, LSU took one final shot at the endzone as Flynn connected with Byrd for the score, who then gave the Can t See Me gesture to the LSU student section after coming up with the catch. 2008: Freshman quarterback Jarrett Lee led LSU on a 7-play, 54-yard capped with an 18-yard TD pass to Brandon LaFell as the LSU Tigers rallied for a 26-21 win over Auburn. It marked the second straight year that LSU scored in the closing moments of the game to beat Auburn. 2010: Cam Newton rushed for 217 yards and 2 TDs in fourth-ranked Auburn s 24-17 win over undefeated and sixth-ranked LSU in Jordan-Hare Stadium. As a team, Auburn rushed for 440 yards, the most ever given up by an LSU team. 2011: LSU stepped out of its usual home attire and donned the Nike Pro Combat uniforms and responded with a 45-10 win in Tiger Stadium in what was the most lopsided victory (for either team) in the series. 2012: Trailing 10-9 at the half, No. 2 LSU held off an unranked Auburn team using a third-quarter field goal to prevail 12-10. Drew Alleman s field goal proved to be the only points for either team in the second half. Sam Montgomery had a safety and finished with 3.5 tackles for loss. 2016: Quarterback Danny Etling drove LSU the length of the field and connected with DJ Chark on 15-yard game-winning touchdown drive with no time remaining on the clock. The call was overturned by video review citing no time remaining on the clock and LSU fell to Auburn, 18-13. On the previous play, LSU was flagged for an illegal shift after picking up a first down at the Auburn 2-yard line with 0!01 to play. With the clock starting on the official s whistle, Etling - who rolled out of the pocket and found Chark for a tip-toe grab in the back-right corner of the endzone - was ruled to have received the snap after time had expired LSU-Auburn Ties 4 Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele coached at LSU for the 2015 season. 4 Last year, LSU's game against Florida was relocated to Baton Rouge and moved to Nov. 19 following Hurricane Matthew. In 2015, LSU's home opener against McNeese State was canceled due to a nearly four-hour lightning delay. Then, in week five, horrific flooding in the state of South Caroline forced LSU to host the Gamecocks in Tiger Stadium. TIGERS IN THE NFL Name Team Pos. That year, Thompson played alongside nine defensive players who are currently in the NFL. 4 This season, Thompson will play alongside some LSU true freshmen who were in eighth grade when Thompson saw his first action as an LSU Tiger in 2012. 4 Thompson graduated from LSU in December of 2015 with a degree in sports administration. At the time of Thompson s college graduation, members of LSU s 2017 freshman class were only sophomores in high school. It marked the first time since the tradition began in 2003 that two players have worn the number. 4 The prestigious No. 18 began when, in 2003, quarterback Matt Mauck guided LSU to its first national championship since 1958. His number became synonymous with success both on and off the field as well as a selfless attitude that has become the epitome of being an LSU football player. 4 Here is a look at the previous players to wear No. 18: Years Player Position 2003 Matt Mauck QB 2004-07 Jacob Hester RB 2008-09 Richard Dickson TE 2010 Richard Murphy RB 2011 Brandon Taylor S 2012 Bennie Logan DT 2013 Lamin Barrow LB 2014 Terrence Magee RB 2015-16 Tre Davious White CB Aranda Returns as Nation s Elite Coordinator 4 LSU s defense under coordinator Dave Aranda allowed the fewest touchdowns (16) and fewest touchdowns per game (1.3) in college football in 2016. 4 The Tigers defense finished ranked No. 5 in points per game and No. 10 in total yards. In 2016, LSU

held six of its 12 opponents to fewer than 300 total yards. 4 LSU s most dominant performance came against Louisville and the Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson in the bowl game. Aranda s defense held Louisville to season lows for points and rushing yards as the Tigers recorded eight sacks, just one shy of tying the school record. The Aussie Punting Connection 4 Since the 2011 season, LSU has had the unique connection of having an Australian native punter. Brad Wing, a native of Melbourne, was a 2011 first-team All-American and served as the Tigers punter in 2012 as well. 4 Jamie Keehn took over punting duties in 2013 and finished his career with the fourth-best punting average for a career as a senior while being a permanent team captain and was named to the 2015 SEC Academic Honor Roll. 4 Sophomore Josh Growden has been the Tigers' punter over the last two seasons. Growden was selected to the All-SEC Freshman team in 2016 after averaging 41.4 yards on 57 punts. Guice Joins Elite SEC Company With Two 250-Yard Rushing Games in 2016 4 With a pair of 250-yard rushing games in 2016, RB Derrius Guice joined elite SEC company as he along with Moe Williams of Kentucky are the only two players in league history to have two 250-yard rushing games in the same season. Williams did it in 1995 with 299 yards vs. South Carolina and 272 vs. Cincinnati. 4 Guice had 252 yards vs. Arkansas in week 9 and then followed that with a record-setting day of 285 yards vs. Texas A&M in week 11. 4 Guice joins Williams are joined by Auburn s Bo Jackson and Georgia s Herschel Walker as the only four players in SEC history with two 250-yard games to their credit in a career. Guice Breaks Single-Game Rushing Mark, Becomes First LSU Player With Two 250-Plus Yard Rushing Games in Same Season 4 In the regular season finale against Texas A&M, running back Derrius Guice broke Leonard Fournette s LSU single-game rushing record by a yard with 285 and four touchdowns in LSU s 54-39 win over the Aggies. 4 Guice carried the ball 37 times in the victory and out-rushed the entire Texas A&M unit by himself as he became the first LSU player in program history to have two games of 250 yards or more when coupled with his 252 against Arkansas just two weeks prior. 4 In SEC history, he is only the fourth player ever to do so joining the likes of Herschel Walker, Bo Jackson and Moe Williams. LSU is DBU 4 With two first team All-America defensive backs in 2016, LSU can easily back up its claim as being DBU. With the addition of Tre Davious White and Jamal Adams, LSU has now produced 10 first team All-American defensive backs since 2003. 4 Overall, LSU claims 14 first team All-America defensive backs, including three-time selection Tommy Casanova (1969, 1970, 1971) and two-time pick Corey Webster (2003, 2004). 4 In terms of the NFL, since 2007 LSU has had more defensive backs selected in the NFL Draft (17) than any other team in the nation. Of LSU s 17 NFL Draft picks since 2007, six have been first round picks and five came in either the second or third round. LSU Welcomes Mike VII in 2017 4 LSU introduced the former Harvey as Mike VII on the first day of the fall semester, August 21, after a 10-month search for a new tiger. 4 Mike VII is a Siberian-Bengal male tiger and was donated to LSU from a sanctuary in Okeechobee, Florida, called Wild at Heart Wildlife Center. 4 Mikes IV, V and VI were also donated to LSU from rescue facilities. LSU has not purchased a tiger since Mike III in 1958, and LSU does not support the forprofit breeding of tigers. 4 Here s a look at notable moments during the reign of each of the previous Mike s in LSU history: Mascot Years Notable Moments (Football Record) Mike I 1936-56 Purchased for $750, was the longest living mascot at 20 years (115-83-14) Mike II 1956-58 The shortest reign with two tigers being used those seasons (8-12) Mike III 1958-76 First football national title and three SEC titles during reign, (142-50-7) Mike IV 1976-90 Two SEC championships (141-63-6 ) Mike V 1990-2007 Football national title, five baseball national championships(120-72-1) Mike VI 2007-2016 Football national title, baseball national title (92-30) Mike VII 2017-present (4-2) Non-Conference Regular Season Success since 2000 4 LSU leads the Southeastern Conference in wins against non-conference opponents during the regular season since 2000. 4 LSU has won 62 of 66 games and owns a.939 winning percentage. Get to 100 yards rushing and LSU will more than likely win as the Tigers are 119-18 when that happens. 4 Hold the opponent to fewer than 100 yards and the Tigers are 72-5. 4 An even more telling stat is that when LSU rushes for 100-plus yards and holds the opponents to fewer than 100 yards, the Tigers are 71-0. 4 The following is a look at LSU s rushing numbers and have the Tigers have fared in those games: Year LSU 100+ LSU 100- Opp 100+ Opp 100- LSU 100+/Opp 100-2005 10-0 1-2 3-1 8-1 7-0 2006 10-0 1-2 5-0 6-2 6-0 2007 11-2 1-0 3-2 9-0 8-0 2008 8-3 0-2 2-5 6-0 6-0 2009 8-0 1-4 7-4 2-0 2-0 2010 11-2 0-0 7-1 5-0 5-0 2011 13-0 0-1 4-1 8-0 9-0 2012 9-1 1-2 4-2 6-1 6-0 2013 10-1 0-2 6-3 4-0 4-0 2014 8-3 0-2 4-4 4-1 4-0 2015 8-1 0-2 3-3 6-0 6-0 2016 8-3 0-1 3-3 5-0 5-0 2017 4-2 - 1-2 3-0 3-0 Totals 119-18 5-20 52-31 72-5 71-0 This Day vs. Night Thing in Tiger Stadium 4 The facts indicate that LSU plays better at night in Tiger Stadium than they do during the day. The numbers show that since 1960, LSU is 247-66-4 at night under the lights compared to a 34-26-3 mark in Tiger Stadium during the day. 4 Since 2000, LSU is 105-18 overall at home, which includes a 81-11 mark at night in Tiger Stadium and a 24-7 record during the day. 4 Prior to 2000, LSU had only won 10 games at home during the day in 32 tries. 4 From 1960 to 1999, LSU posted a 10-19-3 (.359) record at home during the day. The Last Meeting LSU 13 Auburn 18 September 24, 2016 Jordan-Hare Stadium Auburn, Ala. Winning TD Ruled Too Late at Auburn Danny Etling s 15-yard game-winning touchdown pass to D.J. Chark was overturned by video review citing no time remaining on the clock, and LSU fell to Auburn, 18-13, on a steamy night at Jordan-Hare Stadium. On the previous play, LSU was flagged for an illegal shift after picking up a first down at the Auburn 2-yard line with 001 to play. With the clock starting on the official s whistle, Etling - who rolled out of the pocket and found Chark for a tip-toe grab in the back-right corner of the endzone - was ruled to have received the snap after time had expired. Auburn, which kicked six field goals in the contest, celebrated its first league win of the season by running the length of the field to its student section. Etling finished 15-of-27 passing for 118 yards with a touchdown. He was sacked three times and left the game for a play with cuts to his head and lip in the first half. Etling ran the ball 11 times for 23 yet yards including runs of 12 and 18 yards on the final drive. Running back Leonard Fournette had 16 carries for 101 net yards. Derrius Guice added 62 yards on three rushes, while Chark had an end-around for 35 yards. Auburn s Daniel Carlson made field goals of 51, 29, 29, 31, 37 and 29 yards were the only points the Tigers scored. Jamal Adams (13) Duke Riley (13) and Kendell Beckwith (12) all posted double-digit tackles in the game to mark the first time since the 2015 Western Kentucky game that three Tigers tallied doubledigit stops in a single game.
