UD Pulau Mas Semester Report of Seafood Savers Membership Summary of improvement developments by UD Pulau Mas (April 2016) (September 2016) (Achmad Mustofa) - (National Capture Fisheries Coordinator)

General Information In this period, UD Pulau Mas experienced a hard situation where this company was forced out of bussiness for a while due to classification issue arguing whether the bussiness undertaken was categorized as capture or aquaculture fisheries. Besides, this affected to UD Pulau Mas s permission transports which later on was banned. This was the impact of Permen KP No. 15 in 2016 about FishingTransportation. This made UD Pulau Mas suspended its transaction process for 4 months (May - August 2016). During the process, UD Pulau Mas through its chairman, Heru Purnomo, conducted advocacy activities accompanied by WWF-Indonesia to clarify the definition of fisheries and aquaculture to make the company could run the activities as before which at that time approximately 6500 fishermen Indonesia were under this company. Through the advocacy process, Indonesian Government finally published Permen KP No. 32 2015 to revise the Permen KP No. 15 2016 about Transports Fish. Because of this regulation, UD Pulau Mas could bring back its fish transport vessel permit and the company can run as beforel.
