We are pleased to have on board our major sponsor Mooto. As part of the sponsorship, Mooto will generously supply a limited edition T Shirt to all 200 black belt entries. Officials will also be wearing a special Mooto Polo shirt during the competition. The Gold Coast Open (GCO) has developed a reputation as being the premier competition in Australia. The Mooto GCO is open to all players regardless of affiliation. Any Taekwondo club (WTF style) are welcome to enter. Students are responsible for their own personal insurance through their instructor. To ensure we finish on time, the event will again be capped at 500 entries. This year all Black belt winners will receive an embroidered black belt in additional to their medal. Cadets will be on the Saturday to allow players to compete on both days in separate divisions. On each day prior to lunch will be show casing a teams event between the states. The composite of each state team will be determined after the closing date. The team event is by invitation only There is no coach registration or fee this year. Players will be asked to nominate their coach when submitting their online entry. Sparring Information Coaches Coaches will be registered by their players during the online process. We can then monitor how many players a coach has and advise the club if they have insufficient coaches. A maximum of three (3) calls to the field of play will be given. Fights will proceed in fight number order. If a player is not ready, the fight will proceed with or without a coach. A coach may enter the court to commence coaching even if the match has started. In 2015 we had very good behaviour from the coaches. We will enforce the same measures to ensure this behaviour maintained. Two misconduct warnings and a coach will NOT be allowed to coach for the rest of the day. A coach briefing meeting will occur 30 minutes prior to the start time of each day of the sparring competition. Coaches are required to attend briefings. Competition Rules WTF Rules. Sparring is by elimination contest. A complete copy of the WTF Competition can be downloaded http://www.worldtaekwondofederation.net/wpcontent/uploads/2015/11/wtf_competition_rules Interpretation_May_11_20 15.pdf Safety Equipment Sparring athletes must wear WTF full colour chest protector, groin, shin, arm and head guards (matching colour or white) and gloves. All divisions except Yellow belt 11 years and under must have the daedo electronic foot protectors. The Organisers will provide the electronic chest guards to use. Mouth guards are compulsory and must be white or clear. Modified Rules. A head kick, intentional or through lack of caution, will be treated as attacking the head with the fist or the hand. The appropriate penalties of Kyong-go (warning), Gamjeom (deduction point), or disqualification will apply. Sparring Summary Players can compete in a maximum of 2 divisions. Limitations of Novice black belt divisions. o Cannot enter both novice and open divisions o Cannot have been a national level black belt medallist o Cannot have been a state level black belt champion o Players found breaching these requirements will be disqualified. 15-17 Juniors can go in Open divisions. 12-14 Cadet can go in 15-17 Juniors. Masters (33+ yrs) and Open s will be separated. Separate blue and red belt cadet (12-14 Yrs) divisions for head kicks and non head kicks. Cannot enter both divisions. Protest cards will only be used in Black and Red belt divisions. There will be no video review. Review will be consensus between Judges, referee and TA. Jump front kick competition The Jump kick event is conducted during the lunch time break on both days. It involves kicking a target on the jump kick machine. Highest in age and height category. Approximately 10 per division. 3 misses in total you are eliminated. Athletes must land on their feet. Number of medals will depend on the size of each division. Contestants can only enter 1 day.
POOMSE INFORMATION Poomse format will be 1 on 1. There will be a double repechage system to ensure all players have a fair chance. WTF divisions require students to know all poomse in the division. Non WTF divisions only require a student to know up to their grading level. All poomse divisions will be run on the Saturday. Players cannot enter both WTF and Non WTF divisions. Divisions are as per the 2015 Nationals. Most Entries by a Club or branch 10 Entries or more by a club All teams from interstate or overseas. Referees/ Judges All Officials must register online to be catered for. Referees must be TA, OTU, or IR (WTF) qualified. In addition to payment, officials and volunteers will receive a GC Open shirt and medal as well as a number of other gifts in appreciation. Officials are welcome out to dinner on Saturday night. We are currently finalising a payment /package for all officials. We encourage athletes to take advantage of the early bird rate. We have confirmed athletes from NZ, VIC, SA, WA & NSW. We hope to have a number of international teams. Online system Our online registration system has been setup for your convenience. No need to post the form, just bring a signed copy to the weigh in on the day. Your instructor and coach will automatically get emailed a copy of the form. You can modify your form up to the closing date. Entries must be paid online via paypal / credit card before being accepted. Accommodation Being a two day event, many families have decided to spend the weekend down the Gold Coast. This time of year there are normally some very good deals online. We recommend staying at Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach or Mermaid Beach which are about a 15 minute Taxi fare to the venue. Closest hotels are the Royal Pines and Mercure hotels. Liability All participants in the competition take part at their own risk. While all care is taken, the organisers and their representatives can take no responsibility, under any circumstances, for any damages, injuries or loss to individuals or equipment. Privacy: Personal details collected are solely for the purpose of the competition involved.
Weigh- in There will be 5 weigh-in sessions for sparring. Friday 4-6pm, Saturday 8-8.45 & 12-12.45pm, Sunday 8-8.45 & 12-12.45pm. Athletes can weigh in at any session before their matches. A minimum dress code of T-shirt and Shorts (not underwear) will be strictly enforced during weigh-in with an allowance of 0.5 kg. Players not meeting their weight category will be permitted one additional chance, one hour from original weigh-in time. Uncontested Players: Uncontested players may elect to receive either a medal and T Shirt or a full refund. Players wishing to receive a medal are to be present in full uniform when directed. Medical Conditions: Players are advised to inform their coach of any relevant health information for the purposes of treatment. Instructors are advised that they should maintain appropriate emergency contact details for their players. Refunds: Refunds will be given to withdrawal up to the final draw being published. A doctor s certificate is required for refunds after the final draw has been published. Payment Options All entries must be paid at the time of registration. The system will not allow payment via cheque, money order or cash. Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium For those attending the Gold Coast Open for the first time, the Stadium is located next to the Carrara Sports Ground (home of the Gold Coast SUNS) on Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Carrara. The stadium is about 15 minutes from Surfers Paradise.
