With the Australian Men s Sevens team competing at a Commonwealth Games for the sixth time in 2018 on the Gold Coast, and a Women s Sevens tournament having been added to the program for the very first time, Rugby Sevens is guaranteed to generate a great crowd atmosphere at the upcoming Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Queensland Rugby Union are calling for sport specific volunteers to assist the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in the lead up to and, of course, Rugby Sevens match days. Applications are now open for all those who are willing to be a part of the team and the chance to experience this world class event right here on the Gold Coast. Current contact details: Street Number & Name Town / Suburb State / Territory Postcode Home Phone ( ) Work Phone ( ) Mobile Email GUIDELINES FOR APPLICANTS for RUGBY SEVENS SPORT SPECIFIC VOLUNTEER ROLES AT THE 2018 COMMONWEALTH GAMES - as at October 2016 Introduction Queensland Rugby Union, in conjunction with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC), are seeking to appoint Sport Specific Volunteers (SSV s) to assist in delivering the Men and Women s Rugby Sevens Event. An SSV is a specialist volunteer who has a strong understanding of the competition requirements/procedures relevant to the sport of Rugby Sevens, and experience in the delivery of competition and/or operations of Rugby (at a local, state, national or international level). During the Games, an SSV will play a key role in assisting the competition management deliver competition and training, while working alongside the appointed Technical Officials to ensure the competitions run smoothly.
A Sport Specific Volunteer may be: A current or former athlete, A Technical Official, A Technical Official in training, A current or past Coach, Administrators, venue staff, or other individuals regularly involved in Rugby competitions. Pre-Game and Games times requirements All SSVs appointed to work at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games are required to meet the following pre-games and Games Time requirements: Be available to volunteer for a minimum period of 10 days between 25 th March 15 th April 2018 Attend the Volunteer Selection Centre and/or undertake a Volunteer induction Undergo role-specific training and venue specific training for relevant competition and training venue/s prior to commencing work as a volunteer Undergo and comply with a security background check Wear the allocated volunteer uniform and accreditation pass at all times when on-shift. Process Expressions of interest (EOI s) will be sort by Queensland Rugby Union. These EOI s will be accepted through the Queensland Rugby Union EOI portal available from www.redsrugby.com.au with the portal closing at 5pm AEST, on Friday 13 January, 2017. Queensland Rugby Union (in consultation with GOLDOC) will make initial selections for these roles in late January 2017. The first round of successful applicants will be notified at this time. Queensland Rugby Union and GOLDOC will make the final appointments and notifications in mid- 2017. Applicants who miss out on an SSV role will have the opportunity to nominate themselves for a generalist volunteering position via www.gc2018.com/take-part/volunteering. Please Note: All candidates who are interested in being considered for a SSV role must register to be a volunteer by completing the GC2018 Volunteer Registration process. This is an online process. The Volunteer Portal will be open from the early February 2017 for a period of 4 weeks. Successful applicants will be advised of their appointment by issuing of a formal Letter of Offer. Offers will be generated and issued via the GC2018 Volunteer Portal. Eg. 1,2,3 Rugby Services Match Management Team Liaison Officer Ensuring that teams participating adhere to the regulations of competition through the terms of participation for Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games as set by World Rugby and GC2018. This is a key role of competition and liaison in Rugby Services management for the tournament. A full understanding of international Rugby 7 s knowledge is essential. Ensuring that the touring teams participation in the Tournament proceeds as smoothly as possible and to problem solve all issues related to their participation in the tournament. This role will involve a high level of communication between teams and tournament staff. Successful communication in this role will ensure that issues are either minimized and/or quickly resolved. Judicial Liaison Officer Provide support and administrative and technological assistance through the tournament to the Judicial Officer, Citing Commissioner and Appeals Committee. Match Day Assistant Assisting the Events Manager with managing team movements. The key purpose of the role is to ensure that teams leave and arrive at designated locations on time to ensure the smooth running of the tournament. Tournament Results Office Assistant Spotters The Tournament Office Assistant is a volunteer position. The main purpose of this role is to support the Tournament Office Manager in the operation of the tournament office. You will work to strict deadlines for the production and distribution of competition information. It is a position suitable for someone accustomed to working in a fast paced deadline orientated environment Relaying try scorer and goal kicker details to the results area. With the fast paced nature of the matches many points are scored very quickly and accurately relaying the identity of the point scorers is critical to the success of the results compilation and distribution. Time Keeper Ensuring that the official match time is recorded using the scoreboard clock according to the match referee. Results Runner Assisting the Tournament Office Manager and the Tournament Media Manager with results information distribution on the days of the tournament. Ball Kids Ball kids must be between 12-15years of age and have
performed Ball Kid duties at Premiership level, Super Rugby level and/or Test Match level. Ball Kid Coordinator Responsible for the supervision and coordination of the Tournament Ball Kids, ensuring that Ball Kid protocol standards are met throughout the duration of the event. Ball Kid Assistant Coordinator Assisting the Ball Kid Coordinator with the supervision and coordination of the Tournament Ball Kids, ensuring that Ball Kid protocol standards are met throughout the duration of the event.
