Meet Your Host Committee: George Ireland Where do you call home? I was born and raised in Ottawa and have lived in Ottawa all of my life. Are you retired or working? I am in the midst of transitioning from being a partner in a CA firm to being retired. At the present time, I am consulting with the firm on an as needed basis. How long have you been curling? I started curling in the junior program in excess of 45 years ago. What s the best thing about curling? I have made many life long friends through curling. The social aspect of curling and the friends it has given me are definitely what I love most about the sport. Where did you throw your first curling stone? My first stone was at the RA Curling Club, where I am still a member to this day. Do you remember your first skip? This is going back a long way, but I think it was Harold C. Volunteer Experience? In a curling capacity, I have served on the RA Curling Club executive twice for a total of ten years - this includes one year as the Chair of the club. I also served on the committee running the 2013 Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championship. In my professional capacity, I have served on various committees for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario for a total of approximately twelve years. have made many lifelong friends through curling Why did you volunteer for the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier? I much prefer to volunteer when something comes along that looks interesting. I enjoyed my work with the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championships, so I put my name forward to assist with the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier. It also fit in well with my transition into retirement, since I would have more time to commit. Volunteering has always been my way of giving back to the community. Hosting the 2016 Tim Hortons Brier brings a lot of excitement to the area, what are you most excited about? It will have been 15 years since Ottawa has hosted the Tim Hortons Brier. I want this Brier to showcase what Ottawa has to offer and ensure it won't be 15 years before it returns to the city. 550 volunteers are needed to host the Tim Hortons Brier, what can they expect? To have an enjoyable experience helping the Host Committee and Curling Canada put on this world class event. One that is memorable for volunteers, fans, and athletes. 2

The 32 ft long, 900 lb. street curling unit is designed for people to test their curling skills during the warm summer months with rocks and a curling surface that simulate the real thing. Following it s trip to the Champions ball park, Street Curl will set up at TD Place for the Fall and Winter, where it will be open to the public during 67 and Fury games.
