WHITE SOX BASEBALL CLUB SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL WHO WE ARE White Sox Baseball Club is the oldest baseball club operating in Newcastle and supports baseball for all ages. The Club was born in Mayfield in 1946 and was based in Mayfield until 2011. In late 2014, White Sox were successful in gaining permission to establish a new home ground at Plattsburg Park, Wallsend. The club owns an extremely proud history as one of the most stable, longstanding and dominant clubs in the country. Over the years, White Sox has boasted some of the country s finest players. Today, we continue to operate around our founding principles and we strive for excellence as our founders did in the 1940 s. With currently 90 members, we are a growing club who offer the community a sporting outlet from the social player right through to the most dedicated. We embrace this opportunity to be an integral part of Wallsend and hope to make a difference in many people s lives over the coming years.
WHAT WE DO White Sox Baseball Club is associated with the Newcastle Baseball Association. The Newcastle Baseball Association has divisions in the U\8 s (T Ball), U\10 s (Zooka Ball), U\13 s, U\15 s and U\17 s junior divisions, as well as senior teams in, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade (Major League) and 4th, 5th and 6th grade (Minor League). White Sox has a strong representation amongst most of these divisions. The 2016 playing season starts April 2nd and finishes early September. White Sox begins its pre season training in February of each year. The sport of baseball is open to, and welcomes everyone. There is a place for all community members in the sport, and in our club. The Club will be liaising with local schools, neighbourhood centres and community groups to expose community members to the sport and the social and health benefits the sport brings. Initiatives we will use within the community include come and try days and ongoing coaching and mentoring. One of the benefits of baseball is the low cost to play compared to other sports currently offered in the region, and the majority of equipment required to play is provided by the Club. This low cost makes the sport financially accessible to most socio economic groups. With such a focus on childhood obesity, baseball is well positioned to engage children in this area, from T Ball and Zooka Ball (4 9yrs), to Juniors (10 16yrs) and Senior (17+yrs) baseball. WHERE WE DO IT Our new home ground is at Plattsburg Park in Wallsend. White Sox finally brings baseball to the Western Corridor region. Baseball is a growing sport in Australia. It has the largest Little League participation rate of any country outside of North America. Our newly developed baseball facility in the western corridor of Newcastle will provide an opportunity to all community members to participate in a growing sport along with associated sponsors. 2016 will see the completion of Stage Two of construction. With several further stages remaining and good support from the Council, Plattsburg Park will become the highest quality local facility.
WHY WHITE SOX BASEBALL NEEDS SPONSORING PARTNERS Although we are attempting to keep our sport as cheap and accessible as possible to ensure our duty of care to our players is met, we do incur many non negotiable overheads such as, new helmets, bats, new white baseballs, pitching screens, catcher s protective gear and most importantly playing insurance. These costs are not all recouped by player fees, and it is up to the Club to fund the shortfall. As this is only our second year on our new diamond, other capital items will also be required such as, lawn mowing equipment, artificial turf, rakes and tarps to cover the diamond, to name a few. Although these costs will be a one off, they will be essential to keep our field in pristine condition. Newcastle City Council has a vision for Plattsburg Park and baseball in the local area. Once complete, Plattsburg Park will be the home of representative baseball for the Hunter region and will host games with teams coming from all over Australia. This is the vision of both the Newcastle City Council and the White Sox Baseball Club and is an exciting time for our sport and our local community. OUR AIM The population of the Western Corridor region is growing rapidly and as such the demand for a wide range of community sporting opportunities is also increasing. The establishment of the White Sox Baseball Club in the region will directly fill this need. White Sox is planning to significantly increase its player base in both junior and senior ranks. Active strategies and planning will be implemented and reviewed to ensure the growth of the Club continues to trend upwards and reflect the growing needs of the region we now call home. White Sox is actively working with Council to develop one of the best local baseball facilities in the country over the next few years. OUR MISSION STATEMENT To create an opportunity for anyone to participate in the game of baseball. To provide a safe and caring environment, meet the needs of the group as a whole and make a positive difference in the individual lives of all members as they become competent in the game of baseball.
