IMPORTANT REMINDERS MEDICAL Team Information Team USA Physician Dr. Andrew Getzin Please bring any chronic/long-term medications that you might be taking for various medical conditions. In addition, bringing a list of other medications you have been using helps in the case of any acute medical problem. A general list of medical conditions both chronic and recent is EXTREMELY helpful to the medical staff should any problems arise. Event Details Race Packet Details During registration, you will receive two transition bags. In the ORANGE transition bag that says FINISH you have to put your belongings that you do not need during the race. You can hand your bag in at the Bag Drop Off tent at Transition T1 Elite (Kop van Zuid). After the swim you have to store your swim gear in the BLUE bag that says SWIM. Please place this bag on the position of your bike in Transition T1. After the race you can pick up both transition bags when showing your accreditation wristband in the Bag Pick Up Tent on the Westerkade next to the finish. 14

Add l Bike Check-In Procedures You MUST bring with you the following items to assure a flawless check-in process: Bib Number (place on race belt if you have one); on the front of your uniform if not. Uniform (have out of your bag so they can quickly inspect it) Bike with race number attached (be sure that it appears underneath your seat post) Helmet with race numbers attached (place on your head so it is quicker for them to analyze) put your helmet on your head; Wheels that you will be competing with in the race Please don t leave anything with your bike other than the bike and wheels (bring other items in the morning) Carry some form of ID with you in case you need it Scout out the flow of transition so that it is very clear before you leave the area Once you arrive at T1, look for the last 4 digits of your race number (Ex: Number is 52001, you re looking for 2001) 16

The Course Pre Start Procedures Warm up bikes can t leave transition so the only option is to run or use stretch bands, or run, etc. Swim warm up is located behind the swim start pontoon. Check your bike spin the gears and be sure brakes are not rubbing kiss your frame! In the athlete village is where you can get water and drop off all excess gear. Everything you check in to the bag tent must fit in a bag and marked with the bag check sticker found in your race packet. 30 minutes before start for both sprint and standard move into pre-start zones. Listen for announcements. Ensure you have timing chip on your ankle Do not take non-essential equipment to start line including clothing. Pass to friends or in your bag at the gear check tent. If you take water, dispose of it accordingly in this area. Move through to start platforms keep walking as directed. Support staff will be positioned in and around the transition area if you need help with your bike, the USAT team will be there to help. 24
Race day Details Swim Warm Up AG athletes do have the ability to do a swim warm up behind the start pontoon. Athletes have to be out of the water minimum 30 minutes before the start of their wave. For the start procedure there are 3 holding pens for the forthcoming waves and then one final one on the pontoon when the timing starts to alert Timing. So, all athletes have to be in their pens ready for this process. 25
Race day Details Pre-Start Procedures -Athletes will be called to enter the calling area, according to the appropriate wave start. Must be in this zone at least 30 minutes ahead of your wave start. -The calling area will be located next to the start pontoon. -You will cross a timing mat that will register you starting in the right wave -When you are in the start area, the technical officials will guide you. 26

ITU official will say, On your mark Horn blast Race starts Athletes not moving forward at the start will receive a time penalty of 15 seconds in TA1. (all penalties are stop and go 15 ) You will hear a several horn blasts if there is a false start 27
False Start Procedures False start example: Several horn blasts Everyone goes back to her/his spot Valid start but with early starters: If someone starts before the horn and everyone else starts with the horn, the false starter will receive a time penalty of 15 seconds in T1. (During the time penalty the athlete cannot pick up, drop or take off any equipment!) 28

Course Overview Swim -On 9/14 the water temperature was 64.4F -1 lap clockwise -Must take wetsuit, cap and goggles to transition -Allowed to pull wetsuit down to waste once you exit the water but you cannot remove your entire wetsuit at waters edge. Course Overview Standard Bike -2 sections of 20 km, flat, technical -2 penalty boxes, see location on the map -2 Littering Zones marked (20m before and 80m after) at penalty box locations -The OD is a non drafting race. The distance from front wheel to front wheel is minimum 10 m. -The same distance is needed between a bike and a motorbike -The distance from a vehicle should be minimum 35 m -Athletes penalized for drafting during the OD, have to serve their penalty at the next bike penalty box. -Not serving a penalty will be a DSQ -Always stay on the right/ pass on the left 35

Blocking is where an athlete who is behind cannot pass due to the leading athlete being poorly placed on the course 37

Bike Course Details If shown a BLUE or YELLOW card by Technical Officials they are supposed to also mention your race number - MUST STOP AT THE NEXT PENALTY BOX YELLOW = All other infringements stop and go penalty BLUE = drafting infringement 2 minutes in penalty tent RED = DSQ They SHOULD call your number out so it is heard and so that you know it is you who is being cited. Be sure you know for certain if you are the person being called for a penalty. When reporting tell them your race number; time starts when you enter. DQ if no report. If cited with your bike, must have bike on right or left side...not straddled Penalties can also be served in transition - at YOUR spot - usually ten seconds don t touch anything at this time at your location Don t proceed until the official says you may do so Red cards are dq s but proceed anyway and race HARD! Can protest a DQ if you feel it is unwarranted done within 5 minutes of finishing to let ref know and 15 minutes of finish time to complete paperwork find head referee and a team manager Drafting penalties are two minutes for the standard distance. Three drafting penalties = DSQ. NOTE: YOUR NUMBER MAY NOT APPEAR ON THE INFO BOARD Enforcement will be very, very difficult outside of blocking 39

Last minute reminders Be safe when riding! The roads will not be closed prior to the event. It is advised to ride early in the morning to avoid traffic. Always wear a helmet...even post event! Layout all items needed for the event the night before the event. Leg and arm warmers are allowed on the bike and run but can only be removed in TA. The Team USA cycling jacket or a clear jacket is allowed. Long sleeved shirts underneath your uniform are allowed but must be worn the entire event. MUST wear you bib number on the back on the bike and on the front on the run. 49
Awards Ceremony Procedures Standard Triathlon Awards Ceremony Sunday, September 17th at 8:00pm First three athletes of each category are requested to be at the meeting-point (right side of stage) at approximately thirty minutes before your age group is called. If you are a podium finisher, wear your parade outfit! 50
