Greetings and Welcome to our 13 th James Creek Simmental Private Treaty Bull Sale! What a wild ride this past year has been in the commodity world. Record high cattle prices early in 2015 to the lows that were seen in November can make one question why are we in this business. In our operation we had a very good year, crops yielded well and the pastures supported our cattle with limited rain in August and September. The fall was great for getting calves weaned and cattle moved to fall pastures. Grain harvest went fast and was successful. It is time to present our sale cattle for your appraisal. Please let us know your questions about the cattle listed and our sale process. We are very impressed with several of the bulls that have developed into great herd bull prospects. As a friend told me, trying to breed the next genetic master piece is why we do this. You are welcome to stop by and see the bulls before the sale. The bulls and heifers were given Bovi-Shield 5 and 7-way with haemophilus in May before going to pasture. The same vaccinations were given in October before weaning. Bovi-Shield 5 was boostered after weaning, in October. We poured the bulls with generic Ivomec at weaning. The bulls and heifers were weaned on October 26, 2015. They are on a TMR that consists of whole corn, modified distillers, alfalfa, grass hay, and a mineral supplement. This ration is balanced to a 14% protein level and have been worked up to an energy level of.52 net energy gain. These rations have worked really well for us the past few years and the bulls have gone on feed very easy. We have included some information that we are tracking for our own use. Using the cow s weight at weaning time we can determine the calf s performance against the cow s weight for birth weight and weaning weight. These are expressed as a percentage of the cow s weight and are located on the individual bull page. The weights used are the actual weights taken on October 6, preg checking and vaccination time. Our herd average the last several years is 6-7% for birth weight and 43% for weaning weight. This year we included gestation length on the bulls that were AI ed or had breeding dates. We feel that 288 days gestation hits our herd fairly accurate over time for normal due dates. December 31, 2015, weights, frame score and scrotal measurements were taken. The frame score and scrotal measurements are listed as an adjusted number to one-year of age. Check our website for performance updates of the bulls. We will have another set of weights around January 25, 2016. All of the bulls are dilution tested and the results will be available in January. Come early and have lunch with us starting at noon! Hanna and Hailey will have their special Simmental cow cookies. We hope to see you. Consider the genetic improvement that you are striving for in your cattle operation. Today s Fleckvieh bulls give you the genetics to produce highly efficient and productive cattle to work with your environment. Our calves are fed at Kansas Feedyard, Scott City, KS. The data above is from that environment. Our environment in ND is vastly different and we see these same efficiencies with our cow condition and production traits. Would you like to capture more dollars from your genetics or give it away to someone else? Give this a try. If you have questions about how we do this give me a call. I d be glad to visit about this with you. 22 Heathe, Holly, Hanna & Hailey Widicker
