The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley offers quality programs throughout the school year in education, the arts, health, sports, computer technology, and leadership. We have a total of 9 clubs located in Conejo Valley and Las Virgenes School Districts. Our seven middle school clubs are open after school daily until 6:30 pm. The morning schedules vary between locations. Our two elementary sites are open after school until 6:00 pm. Weekend activities are geared for ages 3 12 with a Sunday low-competitive Sports League. Club Program Descriptions The Arts The Richard and Mary Carpenter / Alliance for the Arts Music Program ACRYLIC PAINTING Become a master painter and have fun creating a finished piece of art after each session. Weekly paint tutorials will include step by step instructions for landscapes, silhouettes, portraits, abstracts and more! ART MASTERS In this fine arts class, members will learn about famous artists and their techniques.they will gain the skills used by Monet, Cézanne, Picasso, and others through painting and drawing. AWESOME ART Unleash your inner artist! In this course we will study the fundamentals of line drawing, perspective, color, and texture. BROADWAY SHOW CHOIR Are you a triple-threat actor, singer, and dancer? Try out for Broadway Show Choir! This class is for dedicated performers who want to advance their skills and showcase their talents at our prestigious events. This class is audition only, and is offered year-round. CARD MAKING Design and make original cards for every occasion. Using a variety of craft materials and techniques, participants will create beautiful handmade cards they can give throughout the year! CLAYMATION Clay animation is one of many forms of stop motion animation. In this fun, interactive class members will create short films using clay and an ipad. COMEDY CLUB Do you lovemaking people laugh? Write, act in and film your own hilarious sketches while learning the secrets behind timing, delivery and slapstick comedy! DANCE TEAM This class is a fun, high energy experience that will teach you various Hip Hop styles and moves including a variety of dance combinations. Our experienced instructors create a fun environment that helps participants develop basic dancing skills. DIY ART This creative class will open students up to new ideas of making something simple into a fun activity.we will be able to use everyday supplies and convert them to inventive projects. DRAMA CLUB Do you like to perform? This class introduces improvisation and ensemble acting skills through participatory activities and individual character development. Students will gain confidence, speaking skills and self-esteem by learning how to perform in front of a live audience. Sessions will end with a performance. Class Fee: $80.00 for Non-Monthly Members DRILL FLAGS As part of our Drill Flags team, participants will learn fun routines carrying flags and other props to create amazing visual effects. The team's movements are based in dance and will be choreographed to different types of music. DRUM CIRCLE Do you want to explore the world of rhythm? Come to our drum circle class! We have a variety of drums to try out and you can learn how to make awesome free-form music right in the moment. No experience necessary. EDIBLE ART Do you enjoy art? Do you like healthy snacks? Join this fun class that combines the two. GLEE CLUB Come be a part of Glee Club and be a star singer. This experience provides students with the opportunity to learn music theory, advance their vocal skills, and participate in performances. IMPROV II This class is all about being in the moment and learning what it takes to have sharp wits! In this class, students will learn to react to what s going on in their immediate environment and build skills to communicate quickly and confidently. LYRICISM 101 This program will provide an opportunity for Club members to explore hip hop as an art form, as well as engaging in critical literacy and creative writing. Lyricism will build selfesteem and confidence, while celebrating the diverse identities of our members. MAGIC CLUB Have you ever wanted to learn magic? In this course we will learn beginner s magic through tricks, cards, and illusions! MOVIE MAKING The class will be focused on learning screenwriting techniques, how to act in front of a camera, how to capture and edit sound, and how to use music to reinforce dramatic action. The class will also include movie editing techniques, directing, set construction, and lighting. 8

Club Program Descriptions MUSICAL THEATRE Musical theatre improv is a fully active and immersive class. Members interested in singing, acting and dancing should sign up. MUSIC CLUB Ever wanted an opportunity to play the guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard? Now s your chance to give them a try! The Boys & Girls Club is offering a dedicated time each week for you to come check out our music room, try our instruments, and get some tips on how to be a rock star from a seasoned musician. MURAL ART Unleash your inner artist! Help create amazing murals to decorate the Club. Members will work together as a team to design and paint the interior hallways, making a lasting mark on the Club. PHOTOGRAPHY Learn the basics of digital photography. This beginning photography course will teach how to produce better pictures with lighting and perspective techniques. You will also learn basic photo editing such as cropping and adjusting color and light. ROCK BAND Many kids today dream about being in a rock band or becoming a star. This enrichment class is a hands-on experience that instructs students how to play in a band, how to use musical equipment, and the techniques needed for practice and musical growth. Students can choose to learn: piano, electric guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, or drums. STAGE MAKE-UP Movies and TV shows use make-up to create many exciting characters such as zombies, elves, and vampires. Now it s your chance to learn studio secrets and the tricks of the trade behind stage make-up. This is a hands-on class for anyone who s looking to build their theater and artistic skills or have fun learning something new. STEM PHOTO EDITING Members will use professional editing programs to manipulate images and learn the basics of graphic design. They will learn to merge images, crop or hide unwanted features and so much more. VOICE OVER ACTING Learn voice animation like the pros in cartoons and videos! In this class, you will be taught all about voice-overs and how to use high-tech equipment and technology to portray your favorite animated characters. Health & Life Skills CREATIVE COOKING Learn simple cooking techniques using basic kitchen appliances.this is a great class for the young chef who loves to cook! The best part participants get to eat what they make! Class Fee: $25.00 for Before/After School Members $40.00 for Non-Monthly Members GARDENING CLUB The BGC Garden Club gives members the opportunity to grow their foundation of gardening knowledge. We will be cultivating and learning the gardening cycle as well as sharing the harvest with the members. LIFE SKILLS OF MILLIONAIRES Members will learn from the lessons of millionaires and their secrets to success. They will also learn essential life skills that everyone should know from changing a car s oil, starting a budget and preparing for disasters. NEEDLEWORK Learn the basics of a needle & thread and more! Projects will include basic needlework, as well as decorative arts such as embroidery and cross stitch. NEXT STEP (Transition into High School Program) Members who will be entering High School in the following year will have an opportunity to discuss any worries they have about their next step amongst their peers in a positive environment. SMART GIRLS This is a health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program for girls. The popular program is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles that will enable early adolescent girls to develop to their fullest potential. PASSPORT TO MANHOOD Passport to Manhood promotes and teaches responsibility while reinforcing positive behavior in male Club members. RECYCLE CLUB Do you love your planet? In this course we will practice ways to take better care of our planet through recycling. We will also learn ways to use recycled materials to create art. Classes are offered at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE when Members are enrolled in the Before/After School Monthly Program. Non-Monthly Members are welcome to enroll in these programs on an a la carte (pay as you go) basis. These classes have an additional fee for Monthly and Non-Monthly Members. Club Program Descriptions Character & Leadership Development JR. STAFF Members have an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and demonstrate a sense of responsibility as a Junior Staff member. In our Clubs, Junior Staff serve as role models to younger members as they assist full-time professional staff in a variety of program areas and at the front desk. TORCH CLUB This small-group leadership development program is targeted to building future leaders. Members elect officers and plan and implement their own activities and community service projects. Education & Career Development 3D PRINTING We ll spend the eight weeks learning how to design models on various websites, how to operate the 3D Printer, and the science behind the machine. AERODYNAMICS In this class, members will learn the fundamental properties of aerodynamics and apply them to create paper airplanes and other aircrafts. Their creations will be judged by their abilities to fly the longest, highest or farthest. AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) Have fun while learning the basics of sign language. Learn finger spelling, vocabulary and sentences. CHESS AND CHECKERS CLUB This Club gives members an opportunity to play friendly games of chess against their peers in a low-stress environment. All levels are welcome to come, as help is given to those who need it. Learn new strategies and improve your game playing tournaments! COMPUTER CODING Members will learn basic programming skills that will allow them to command the computer. Coding is the language of the future and members will build critical skills for success. DIY STEM This class is a hands-on, activity-based STEM curriculum which connects youth to science themes they encounter regularly. Special attention is paid to connections of theory and application and the common interactions members have with these scientific principles. ENGINEERING In this class members will learn the basics of both architectural engineering and electrical engineering. They will learn about technology ranging from catapults, to light bulbs and computers. POWER HOUR (Making Minutes Count) A comprehensive homework and tutoring program, designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members. Power Hour is offered Monday through Thursday at all Clubs. ROBOTICS Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities come together with this exciting robotics program. Robots are the future of many cutting edge careers. Join this class and learn how to design and build robots. ROCKETRY Rocketry is the perfect enrichment program. It is loaded with science, engineering, and more, plus it s fun! Building rockets requires patience and concentration among many other skills. SCIENCE EXPLOSION The kids will have a BLAST! Conduct simple scientific experiments with objects found in and around the house. Fun projects include lemon juice rockets, creating your own flashlight, producing invisible ink, and more! STEM FINGERBOARD DESIGN Members will have the opportunity to make a board from start to finish that includes molding the wood to designing graphics that will appear on it. They will drill holes and fasten trucks and wheels. TUTORING This popular class focuses on all subjects. Members will be instructed in small group settings. Class Fee: $40.00 for Before/After School Members $80.00 for Non-Monthly Members YEARBOOK In this course,members will be able to take pictures and record club memories and events and put them all together into an amazing yearbook. Participants will gain useful real world skills in time management, marketing, teamwork, and design principles. 10

Club Program Descriptions Sports, Fitness & Recreation ACTIVE GAMERS CLUB This club motivates kids to balance their time between video games and being active. They learn skills that can be applied to teamwork and sportsmanship. BASKETBALL Instruction will focus on improving skills such as shooting, rebounding, passing, dribbling, conditioning and team work. Members will finish with greater self-confidence and appreciation of the game. BOARD GAME CLUB Members will not only be exposed to many card and board games but they will also study different game mechanics and themes. Members will use what they have learned and create their very own board game. DODGEBALL Ready, Set, DODGEBALL! Each week will be skills training on dodging, throwing and catching balls. Participate in dodgeball games against other member-filled teams. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS D&D or Quest as we call it, is a role playing game where members play as characters that they choose while working as a team to reach a common goal. FITNESS CLUB This club will allow members to step out of their comfort zones by testing and heightening their fitness levels. Each week the members will get to complete fitness challenges such as obstacle courses, hikes, relay races, and much more. Sign up today to test your fitness abilities. FLAG FOOTBALL This program is designed with the basics: passing, receiving, running with the ball, blocking and defense. Participants will be provided with fun opportunities to exercise their newly acquired skills. GYMNASTICS Learn the basics of tumbling and progress to intermediate skills. Cartwheels, walkovers, front and back handsprings are some of the skills taught during this class. Session ends with a tumbling class at the California Cartwheel Center. HOCKEY Have a blast playing street hockey in street shoes! Players will get together once a week and participate in instructional drills as well as scrimmages. All equipment will be provided. HUMAN GAMESROOM Come play human foosball, giant indoor soccer, Pac Man Tag and more in this lively way to stay fit! LACROSSE Curriculum focuses on rules, stick work, offense/defense in stations while eventually progressing into small-sided games and drills. LASER TAG This active sport allows members to strategize and learn team building skills. Games will be played outside, in the gym and the club. SOCCER Soccer is a fun and exciting way for you to learn cooperation while staying fit. You can learn the basic rules and plays that make soccer so popular worldwide. Build bonds with other members as you learn to become a team player in this great sport. TAG Who doesn't love Tag? Return to the fun of being a kid with this fitness based program which will include a variety of tag games, including classics such as Freeze Tag and new favorites like Sharks & Minnows and Sticker Tag. TRIPLE PLAY SPORTS & FITNESS Triple Play is a dynamic wellness program that demonstrates how eating right, keeping fit and forming positive relationships add up to a healthy lifestyle. ULTIMATE FRISBEE Club members will be provided with instruction in skills, drills and game play for the game of Ultimate Frisbee. Members will learn the rules, strategy team play, as well as concept of team organization. WACKY GAMES Miss those lively elementary school recess activities? Join our Wacky Games to rule the handball or four square court, capture the flag or steal the bacon! This program is designed for those who can't wait to get back on the playground! WALKING CLUB Tired of walking alone? Looking for a new way to motivate yourself and others to get moving? Join the Walking Club. YOGA This beginner class will introduce the fundamental principles of alignment and a flow of postures linked together by breath. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through stepby-step verbal description and demonstration. If you have never tried yoga this is the class for you, designed to meet the needs of those new to yoga. ZUMBA Ditch the workout and join the party! In this course we will combine fitness with Latin American dance to create a fun dance fitness party!
