Sabre SAILING Yachts Crafted in the Maine Tradition
Sabre worked with Jim Taylor to design a weekender with the style and elegance of a classic sailing yacht, and added to the design mandate a blending of the performance of a youthful sport boat with grown-up ease of handling available with today s modern sailing hardware. To merely use a size number to describe such a boat seemed inadequate, and so the name Spirit was chosen to better convey the very essence of this yacht. Spirit The overhangs of the Spirit s hull convey a traditional elegance, and her nominally narrow beam allows her to sail beautifully and responsively. As is typical of all Sabre yachts, deck hardware and fittings are of the highest standards. Her carbon spar, chosen for added performance and increased stability, is provided by Hall Spars, a supplier for a quarter century. Below deck, a standard sail drive engine reduces vibration and noise and increases propulsion efficiency. Keels and rudder, both by Jim Taylor Yacht Design, offer the latest in design technology and performance. Few sailing yachts will sail better than the Spirit. She is a fast and extremely elegant weekender that will bring back the excitement and exhilaration that you felt, the first time you tried the beautiful sport of sailing.
386 MKII The Sabre Design Team focused on two main issues while creating the Sabre 386. In her interior, the aim was to provide larger, more accessible berths, more storage and comfort, and to make the Sabre 386 the most accommodating Sabre we have ever built. As for her hull, keel and rig design, she needed to be easily driven and capable of outstanding performance, yet easily managed by a small crew. New materials used in conjunction with the latest in design technology have created an exciting new model which, like her siblings, is sure to become a modern classic. The Sabre 386 is the fifth model created by the Design Team of Sabre Yachts and Jim Taylor Yacht Design. This successful collaboration led to the award winning Sabre 362 in 1991 and continued with the Sabre 402, Sabre 452 and Sabre 426. All medium displacement yachts that are as comfortable on the race course as they are in the open ocean or on an extended cruise with family and friends. Sabre sailing yacht hulls are built with vacuum bagged Airex PVC foam core and structural E-glass providing one of the stiffest, strongest and most dependable structures available. Sabre decks are also cored with Airex so that no water can be absorbed into deck coring or hardware reinforcements. Her rudder stock is made of carbon fiber for maximum strength and safety. All structures are backed up with a ten year limited warranty against structural defects.
The twelve year collaboration between the Sabre Design Team and Jim Taylor Yacht Design has proven to be very fruitful: all three of the previous designs, the Sabre 362, Sabre 402 and Sabre 452, have won Cruising World Magazine s Boat Of The Year awards. This partnership has now created the new Sabre 426. 426 MKII The Sabre 426 is a moderate displacement cruising yacht with the performance attributes of lighter boats, yet offering considerably more comfort and on-board amenities. Like her older siblings, she offers a near perfect blend of traditional style and outstanding performance. The story of the new Sabre 426 is one of heritage mixed with such modern construction and design as the use of vacuum bagged Airex PVC closed cell foam core and structural E glass, one of the strongest, lightest and most durable laminate combinations available today. But while modern technology will be hidden below the surface, the traditional Sabre details, as well as some new hallmarks, will be there for all to enjoy and admire. Thoughtful and elegant details that make each Sabre design a secure and beautiful sailing yacht, and a joy to own. The Sabre Design Team wanted a new look for the 426, an evolution of the traditional Sabre look of style, beauty and grace. The result is a design with smoother lines, softer facets; a gracious yet aggressive profile. Timeless style which will be a source of personal pride for her owners for many years to come.
The Sabre 456 will carry you to the ends of the earth, in comfort and safety, with a style and grace no other bluewater cruising yacht can offer. And she ll call on the Sabre heritage of performance cruising to get you there well ahead of the others. 456 Designed by the Boat of the Year Award winning collaboration of the Sabre Design Team and Jim Taylor Yacht Design, The Sabre 456 is the flagship of the Sabre fleet. She has been thought out down to the smallest detail with your safety, comfort and confidence at the forefront of every design and engineering decision. Her design incorporates hundreds of innovative ideas and details, many gathered from discussions with some of Sabre s 4,000 boat owners. Efficient and easy to understand plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems will minimize maintenance time and allow more sailing time, adding to your enjoyment of the Sabre 456. Performance cruising has defined Sabre s reputation for over 40 years. Our belief is that sailing should be fun, and if fun can be achieved by creating easy to sail designs which offer great performance, our owners will want to use their boats more frequently and sail them greater distances. While other yachts are motoring to their destination, you ll be sailing; enjoying the wind, the peace, the quiet and the satisfaction that only a finely tuned design can offer the experienced sailor.
Quality & Commitment The history of Sabre Yachts goes back 40 years to 1970: A short time in the history of boatbuilding in Maine, where ships were first built as early as 1607 on the shores of the Kennebec River. The traditions of Maine s boatbuilding have survived through the centuries and Sabre Yachts is today one of Maine s leading boat-builders with a worldwide reputation for style and quality. Today s Sabre sailing yachts are built on modern Jim Taylor designs and offer excellent performance, stability, and sea keeping characteristics. Our hulls are molded using the latest materials and techniques in sandwich composite engineering. Foam cores are used to reduce weight and noise while increasing strength, stiffness and durability. Our internal furniture is tabbed to the hull s inner skin and internal glass units are only used in head compartments. Tabbing creates an extremely strong structure by making every piece of furniture a structural part of the whole assembly. On deck we select the best production hardware available, or when necessary, we design and have custom fabricated the parts that we need. Below the surface where copper wire is hidden with it s plastic coating we use tinned wire products so as to virtually eliminate corrosion in the electrical system of the yacht. The sum of all of these small details and decisions is a yacht of the highest quality which will be durable and will retain it s value longer than our competitors. We invite your comparisons and questions as they will give us the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to creating the finest sailing yachts available.
