Full Court Game Passing / control 25 minutes / 14 players FA Futsal Level 1 full court game. To transfer the passing and control elements into the game of Futsal. Full court, 5v5 ( that includes GKs) with resting players ready to use the rolling substitution law You will be under pressure both technically (lack of time and space) and physically (players will tire quickly). Try to pass early to give teammates more time and move intelligently into space. Use rolling subs coming on/off through designated area to replicate the game. Passing Control Feinting play and move Dribbling travelling with the ball Defending Shooting Lots of fundamental movements Lots of changes of speed and direction High intensity work needed Be willing to receive the ball under pressure Try new skills and be creative Show a positive attitude when attacking and defending Trust your team mates to take care of the ball Help each other on and off the ball Enjoy trying to win and work hard together Coaching Point #1 Passing Try and retain the ball Be aware of where your players are Play the ball quickly Pass to players even when they are marked Pass to their safe side if they are marked Use your sole of your foot to receive Try and move the ball away from pressure Try and manipulate the ball with your sole so that you create space to move the ball Create passing angles to receive the ball After you have played the ball try and receive it again If you are marked tightly try and get away from your marker Shooting Try and finish the move, don t allow the GK to make a save and start a counter attack Use disguise when shooting Attack the second post area

Running / traveling With Ball (1/2) Passing / control 15 minutes / 16 players FA Futsal Level 1 running or travelling with the ball. The aim is to practice travelling quickly with the ball (replicating a quick counter attack). The red players are positioned as shown so that they can attack both goals. The blue defenders come on one at a time to defend 1v2 with a GK. The activity starts with a throw from the GK. The receiving player has a supporting player if he needs it. Player on the ball should receive and begin to travel in one movement if possible. Roll the ball with the sole of the foot and use support if it is the right thing to do. However, first thought should be to travel quickly to attack and commit the defender. More players can be added to either team but as more are added the more it becomes a passing activity not a running with the ball activity. Dribbling and travelling with the ball / control Passing / shooting / finishing Defending Feinting play and move Need fast dynamic movements Need sharp changes of direction to beat your opponent Defenders need to be able to close down quickly and get pressure on the ball Positive attitude to move forwards at pace Good decisions to either pass shoot or dribble when faced against the defender Team work to get the ball quickly from end to end Work for each other to create space and distract the GK Coaching Point #1 Control Receive the ball with an open body so that you can move forwards quickly Secure the ball with your sole and make your 1 st touch forwards Show a positive attitude to go forwards quickly Get your head up so that you can see the defenders and your support players Keep the ball close and draw in the defender Support from team mates to get in front of your run and distract the defender and GK Need quick pass from the goalkeeper; ball along the floor or by a low throw Decision to pass or shoot Try and attack the second post area or go alone Make sure you finish the move, don t allow the GK to save or you will be countered

Running / traveling With Ball (2/2) Passing / control 15 minutes / 16 players FA Futsal Level 1 running or travelling with the ball. 4v4 With 4 Support Players Passing / control 15 minutes / 12 players F A Futsal Level 1 activity for passing and control. Practice passing and controlling the ball under pressure. 4v4 in designated area with four supporting players on the outside (one on each side who can move along the line to offer constant support). Team in possession use each other AND the four support players. This game can be played in half court. Pass with pace and accuracy but also look for creativity, disguise and innovation. Control the ball with sole of foot to aid ball manipulation and shielding capabilities. For players of different ages and abilities, alter the overload to suit. Try to set the right level of challenge for the players too easy is as bad as too hard. Reduce support players to two per team not four. Limit touches for outside players. Passing, moving, controlling the ball Changes in direction, deceleration and acceleration Shielding, screening and manipulating the ball under pressure Decisions when to carry out the technical and physical actions Motivation to compete and contribute to your group of players doing well and keeping possession Teamwork, collaboration as well as praise and encouragement for each other Coaching Point #1 Try and move the ball quickly Be aware of where you team mates and outside support players are Make your passes firm so that the ball travels quickly Control Be willing to receive under pressure Use your body to protect the ball Manipulate the ball away from pressure Create passing angles to receive the ball Use clever movement when you are marked tightly After you have played the ball look to receive the next pass Outside players move along the line to make passing angles This could become a defending drill In outnumbered situations see how you can press the ball to win it back Make play predictable and try to reduce the overload

Keep It On The Court! Retaining the ball to play forward 15 minutes / 16 players FA Futsal Level 1 keep it on the court! Similar to the line ball game but the scoring is different. Play 4v4 in each half of the court. It is similar to line ball but if the ball goes out of play on any four sides off one of your players (a bad or over hit pass, poor control etc) then a goal is awarded to the other team. Each team can score in the normal way by stopping the ball on the line also. This game makes players concentrate on keeping possession and keeping the ball in play rather than cheaply giving away possession. Clever players if in a tight area might look to play the ball off an opponent and get the goal for their team. Play to 10, 15, 20 goals as in the early stages you will be surprised at how often the ball goes out of play. Give players the choice to pass in or dribble in after the ball does go out. Passing Dribbling / control Feinting play and move Defending Fundamental movements Football functional movements High intensity Willing to receive when marked Staying on task for the length of the game Keeping a lead Winning behaviours Trusting your team mates Working together in a small group Sharing responsibility for the ball Coaching Point #1 Passing Play the ball so that it travels quickly Look to play the ball on the floor Play to receivers safe side Try not to make square passes Control Use the sole to receive the ball Move the ball away from pressure with your next pass in mind Try and control to play forward Feinting / play and move Try and create passing lines Think how to create space as an individual when man marked Try and work with a second player to combine and interchange Dribbling Recognise 1 v 1 opportunities Keep the ball close Use a trick to beat your opponent

Line Ball Passing / control 15 minutes / 12 players FA Futsal Level 1 line ball. Passing, moving and controlling the ball as a team. In this set up the numbers have been reduced to 3v3 in each half of the court to ensure more ball contacts for the players and more decisions made. Keep possession as a team and score by stopping the ball on the line the opposition are defending. Pass and move as a team. Futsal requires good teamwork and cooperation. You will find Futsal difficult if you are selfish on the ball and reluctant to share it with others. Promote this collaboration as well as praise individual skill on the ball. This well known game can be played with 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 and 5v5. It can be used as a warm up activity or one that gets the players practicing some fundamental Futsal techniques and decisions. Lots of practice at passing, control and movement to help teammates and to create space Changes in direction, speeding up, slowing down Moving in different ways and in different directions (forward, back, sideways) Screening and shielding the ball Lots of game like decisions regarding passing, moving, releasing and receiving the ball Teamwork and collaboration needed Good communication needed Coaching Point #1 Retain the ball with quick passing Encourage the players to pass quickly Pass the ball firmly so it is hard to intercept Play to a players safe side Control the ball with the sole of your foot Try and move the ball where you want to take your next touch Try and shift the ball away from pressure Encourage players to find pockets of space to receive in Get defenders to man mark so that the attackers need to work hard to loose their man See if players can make a 1-2 to encourage quick clever movement Recognise opportunities to dribble over the end line Be aware of 1v1 opportunities Be positive when the opportunity arises Manipulate the ball to get past your opponent Have a change of pace to beat your man

Through The Gate Passing / control 15 minutes / 10 players FA Futsal Level 1 game to achieve multiple outcomes. Players will be practicing passing, control and moving to help keep possession. In this set up it is 5v5 but the game can be played with various overloads. When in possession your team is trying to pass or dribble through a gate to score. Always have more gates than players (so that one team does not just block gates). Time your passes, your runs and your movement to help your team keep the ball and score. Use an appropriate overload for each team to get the challenge point right. Play unopposed to groove passing, control and movement techniques. Allow players to score by dribbling through gates to allow for dribbling opportunities.
