The Volcanoes will look to extend their season-best fourgame winning streak and take another step towards a five-game series sweep of Tri-City. Salem-Keizer sends Mike Connolly to the mound for his fourth start of the year while the Dust Devils send Brett Kennedy to the hill. REWIND: LEENHOUTS DELIVERS FIVE SCORELESS After a shaky first inning from the left-hander, Leenhouts quieted down and put together another successful outing. Leenhouts surrendered just four hits in five innings of work, not allowing a run while striking out seven and uncharacteristicly walking two. The Volcanoes did the most of their damage offensively in the fourth inning via the long ball. Vizcaino Jr. hit his first professional home run while Compton added a solo shot two batters later. Halstead kept the Dust Devils in check in the ninth, earning his second save. WINNING STREAK REACHES FOUR A win last night extended the Volcanoes winning streak to a season-high four games. In 2014, Salem-Keizer had two instances of a four-game winning streak (7/22-25 vs. Spokane; 8/7-10 vs. Boise, at Hillsboro) but were unable to extend it to five. Eugene and Hillsboro have also notched four-game winning streaks on the season, but Everett paces the league with its six-game winning streak from June 20-25. CHASE COMPTON S RUN A fourth-inning home run by Compton in last night s victory extended his hitting streak to seven games, most by a Volcano this season. It also ties a career-best for Compton who recorded seven consecutive games with a base hit from Aug. 10-18, 2014 in the Arizona League. While Compton s seven games gets him into the top ten of NWL hitting streaks this season, he has a long way to go to catch the leader. Ledarious Clark is riding an active hitting streak of 16 games, recording a base hit in every professional game of his career other than his debut on June 18. TWO HOMERS IN AN INNING In a span of four batters, Salem-Keizer left the yard twice off the bats of Vizcaino Jr. and Compton. The last time the Volcanoes hit two homers in an inning was August 30, 2014 in Boise. In the top of the seventh inning, Austin Slater led off the frame with a solo shot and was followed three batters later with a two-run shot by Ryder Jones. OFFENSIVE UPTICK: SALEM-KEIZER SINCE JUNE 27 The addition of five bats from the 2015 draft has sent Salem-Keizer surging offensively, most notably since June 27. Higher run totals in the last ten games are improving the Volcanoes rough offensive figures to begin the year. Through the first nine games, Salem-Keizer was averaging just 2.6 runs per contest. However, through the past ten games, the Volcanoes are averaging 5.9 runs. Salem-Keizer has also recorded nine or more hits in six of the last ten games after accomplishing that feat just three times through the first nine games. Newcomers have accounted for 44 of the Volcanoes 89 (49.4%) hits over the past ten games. The Volcanoes 64 runs over the past ten days is second most in the Northwest League, behind Spokane s 69. LAVA BURSTS: NOTES IN BRIEF Errorless opponent? Last night s victory was the first time in 2015 that the Volcanoes won a game when the opponent did not commit an error. One-run games: The Volcanoes have continued last year s trend of winning tight ball games. Salem-Keizer improved to 4-1 in one-run games. Leenhouts matches 2014 win total: After recording nine wins in 2013, Leenhouts recorded just three last season, a win total which he has already matched with last night s victory.
