Ryan Owens Biography SOCS (SEAL) William Ryan Owens was killed in combat in Yemen on January 29, 2017. Owens, 36, was assigned to SEAL Team 6 when he died of wounds received in a nighttime raid. He was on his 12 th deployment as a SEAL and his 18 th year in the Navy. Ryan grew up in South Florida and then moved to Chillicothe, Illinois, where he attended high school. His love of South Florida never wavered and he still spent his high school summers there. His father and brothers still reside in South Florida today and all speak of him wanting to return when he retired from the Navy. Ryan enlisted in the Navy before high school graduation, initially training as a cryptologic technician. He completed his BUD/S training in December 2002 and was initially assigned to West Coast based SEAL Team 1 and then moved on to East Coast based SEAL Team 6 where he had been for 9 years. A 4 mile beach run and kids beach run to honor Navy SEAL Ryan Owens, hosted by his family and friends. This event is to celebrate Ryan s life and amazing service to our country. This 1st annual event will raise money primarily for a memorial for Ryan Owens here in Florida and continue to provide support for the SEAL community through their various foundations. The run will take place along beautiful Deerfield Beach. Runners of all levels welcome. The race will be timed and medals awarded. No pets or strollers please will be allowed.

The Naked Warrior Project, a non-profit, has been set up for this event and other future events that will honor Ryan Owens life. Our immediate fundraising goal will be for a memorial in South Florida for Ryan. Once that goal is met, all remaining money and money from future events will go to named Navy SEAL foundations that support the families of the fallen. Your sponsorship helps to defray the cost of organizing the event. Funds received from sponsorships are used to purchase t-shirts for registered race participants, awards, and complimentary drinks and food for each race participant.
