Climbing for Border Collie Rescue Aconcagua December 2017 to January 2018
Climbing For a purpose Elna and Petra decided to climb Mount Aconcagua and at the same tme wantng to climb for a purpose, both of us are very much in love with Border Collies, it was easy to decide which charity to choose for our purpose to climb Border Collie Rescue was the obvious choice. We would like to get donatons for each milestone reached, we have divided it into 5 milestones of which people can choose how much money for each milestone they would like to donate. It can be for each milestone or any one milestone. Border Collie Rescue Border Collie Rescue is a non proft organisatonenpo no 00 20p, run by a small dedicated team, that rescues, re-rhabilitates and re-rhomes, unwanted, abandoned and misunderstood border collies. Your donaton will go towards sterilizaton, vaccinaton, micro-rchipping of +-r 300+ dogs re-rhomed every year. Elna and Petra Climbing Background Both Elna and Petra love the outdoors and in partcular climbing mountains. Petra s frst big mountain was Mt Kilimanjaro in 1999 which was followed by Mt Elbrus in Russia in 2000, Elna started climbing in 2001 which was Mont Blanc in France and from there to Mt Kilimanjaro. Aconcagua The Mountain Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia, at,9 0.8 meters, and by extension the highest point in both the Western Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. The Climb Vacas Valley Route The climb takes between 14 and 20 days, permitng weather conditons. Day 1 Vacas Valley to the start of the Falso de Polacos Route: The start is at elevaton of 2,750 m hike is hours to Pampas de Lenas Camp also at elevaton of 2,750 m Day 2 another hour hike to Casa Piedra Camp at elevaton of 3,050 m Day 3 is an 8 hour trek up the Relinchos Valley to Plaza Argentna Base Camp at elevaton of 4,200 m Day 4 is an acclimatzaton and rest day Day 5 is a load carrying day to Camp 1 of about 4.5 hours Day is an acclimatzaton and rest day Day 7 Move up to Camp 1 at elevaton of 4,970 m Day 8 is a load carrying day to Camp 2 of about 4.5 hours Day 9 Move up to Camp 2eHelicopter campp at elevaton of 5,480m Day 10 is an acclimatzaton and rest day Day 11 move up to Piedras Blancas High CampeWhite Rocksp about 3 hours at elevaton of,09 m Day 12 Summit day to elevaton of,9 2 m between 7 to 12 hours Day 13 Descend to Plaza De Mulas Base Camp Day 14 Hike out Horocones Valley and return to Penitentes or Mendoza Day 15 to 20 is contngency days
Equipment
Training Early training months before climb, exercise tme increase to double as one gets stronger and closer to expediton date. 3 days a week cardio with some strengthening exercises of 0 minutes 1 day a week 90 + minutes cardio and strengthening exercises 1 day a week stretching and strength training for 30 to 0 minutes 1 day a week rest day 1 day a week 2 to 3 hours long endurance actvity with light pack and increase pack weight as strength increases Elna and Petra Suikerbosrand and Westclif stairs
