SSA Savannah United A Full Service Club 6/21/2017 Volume 1, Issue 1 True Blue State Cup Recap With Our Club Director All five SSA Savannah United teams that played in State Cup recently gained invaluable experience from the weekend. Playing in their first ever State Cup, all the team were competitive. Three of the eventual State Cup champions and one finalist came from the groups that our SSA Savannah United teams were in. Although none of the SSA Savannah United teams managed to progress to the final four, there were some excellent performances, with the '04 Boys Premier leading the way. After beating Region III team KSA in their first game 4-2, a win in their last game would have seen the '04 Boys Premier team advance from their group, but tied 2-2 after leading 2-0. The '01 Girls Premier narrowly lost 1-0 to the eventual champions, and Region III champs UFA Premier, before defeating another Region III team in SSA Chelsea Elite. The '02 Girls Premier got over their disappointment of a first game defeat to play an excellent game against another State Cup champion, UFA Premier, and then recorded a 5-1 win in their final game against DSC. The '03 Boys Premier were competitive in all three matches with two narrow losses and a tie. 2017 Shamrock Cup SSA Savannah United recently hosted the 10th annual Shamrock Cup over Memorial Day Weekend. A total of 85 teams from all over the South East Region descended upon the "Hostess City" for a competitive weekend of soccer. The event also hosted the Warwick Academy Grizzlies for the second year running. The Grizzlies are an Academy based on the Island of Bermuda! This was another successful Shamrock Cup and a special one at that, due to it being the tenth anniversary! The first ever "Shammie" comprised of only a few age groups for local area teams. To have expanded to clubs from all over the South East and attract International Competition is pretty amazing! Teams just love coming to Savannah to play! There is so much to see and do outside of the games. The Shamrock Cup, in addition to the five other tournaments we host as a club make a considerable economic impact on our city! I am very happy that we are able to make a positive mark both on and off the pitch in our community! The first Shammie comprised of only a few age groups for local area teams. Chelsea finished the season with 93 total points and an overall record of 30-3-5! The Blues scored 85 goals & conceded only 33 goals to achieve a goal difference of +53!
