NEW this year there will be 4 additional drawings. Each drawing is for a $50 gift card that the ticket winner will receive, AND the county that sold the ticket will also receive $50. The foundation at the Fort Collins Extension Office must receive tickets prior to each drawing. The drawings will be held on May 1, June 1, June 30, and July 31. The winning tickets will be returned to the final drawing on September 9, 2017. Remember ANY club that sells raffle tickets will receive some money back. 50% of all ticket sales for the club will be given back. For example, if one club were to sell $100 worth of tickets (that s just 20 tickets) the club would receive $50 back! Any 4-H member or leader is authorized to sell tickets. Tickets must be sold only to individuals ages 18 and over! For more information on the truck raffle call the office at 244-1834.

The Mesa County Sheriff s Posse is hosting a Mark Rashid Clinic. Mark Rashid is a world class equine trainer. Mark works with any breed and any discipline, focusing on communication, harmony, and timing between horse and rider. The Sheriff s Posse wants to reach out to 4-H members and has offered their cost $250 per day. There is a limited number of spots, so hurry and register! TRA 4-H will host a Livestock Field Day, Friday May 26, 2016 at the Montrose County Fairgrounds. This event is designed for large animal (beef/swine/sheep/goats) project members. Members are invited to bring their animals to the event to learn more about fitting and showing. In addition, this will be the LAST opportunity for TRA livestock project members to attend a Meat Quality Assurance Class at 2:00 pm which will pertain to members with both large and small animal projects. The Field Day will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 1:00 PM. If you bring your animal you can be there as early as 7:30 AM. Lunch will be provided. Questions? Please call Trent at 244-1837. TRA 4-H Invitational Shoot Dates Mesa County: June 10th Delta County: June 24th Montrose County: June 3rd These events are designed to give 4-H members an opportunity to practice their skills in an out-of-county setting. They also experience what it is like to be in actual competition with members from other counties in their age groups. Entry forms for the Mesa Shoot will be emailed to everyone and available at the Mesa Extension Office. These forms are due to the office by: Friday, June 2nd @ 5:00pm (Rifle, Pistol, Archery, Muzzleloader, & Shotgun) Please contact the appropriate extension office for information about the other shoots. Club Secretary & Treasurer Books... Will be due to the office for their May check on Friday, May 19th by 5:00 pm. Organizational Leaders will be getting more information so please check with them or call the office with questions.
1st Year Livestock Members... are required to attend a Marketing Class to get them familiar with the process of the livestock sale. Any older members are welcome to attend the class as well. There are two available classes to attend. When: May 11th @ 6:00 pm Where: Fruita Monument High School in the Auditorium OR When: May 18th @6:30 pm Where: Plateau Valley School AG Shop Meat Quality Assurance Workshops All 4-H members must attend the Wholesome Meat training once as a Junior (13 and under) and once as a Senior (14 and over). You may attend training in another county if you cannot make the date scheduled in your county. Be sure to sign in when you arrive, this way we have a record of your attendance. Swine Nomination Process: Nominations due to the Extension Office by May 5th, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Nomination forms can be picked up at the office or on the www.tra4h.org website Pigs must be ear notched using the standard ear notching system Photos must be included with nomination form One of each side One of the face Ear Notches must be visible in photo Pictures will be evaluated and you will be notified if the pictures are acceptable. At the end of this newsletter are samples of pictures that are acceptable If you have any questions please contact the office Do not wait until the 6th to get these completed NO LATE SWINE NOMINATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR ANY REASON Pigs being nominated for the state fair must be ear tagged prior to June 1st. Please notify the office of intent to nominate for the state fair. Below is the universal ear notching system: Pigs Right Ear is the Litter Number - Left Ear is the Individual number No more than two notches in each numbered area of the ear Horse Levels Testing deadlines: Friday, June 1st. All written tests must be complete by this date to level up for the fair. All riding tests must be completed prior to Fair Entry Deadline, which is June 16th!
The Beef Field Day is open to all Beef members. So bring your steers or heifers, and come ready to learn. We will have a classroom presentation focusing on Beef Advocacy, presented by two CSU graduate students. The kids get the opportunity to travel to multiple judging competitions as well as State Conference in Fort Collins. This fund raiser pays for those travelling expenses.
