Welcome to Grand Valley State University THE RAPID Grand Valley State University has the benefit of being located in the middle of a small town yet being only a short ride away from a vibrant city with plenty of opportunities for learning and entertainment. Here at Grand Valley there are a variety of different transportation options available to you. Whether you are looking to get around campus or around town, the following five options are some of the many ways to get where you need to go at GVSU. The Rapid is Grand Valley State University s exclusive bus system, providing across campus and across town transportations to all Grand Valley students. Multiple bus routes run every day, multiple times an hour on weekdays and once an hour on the weekends. Check www.gvsu.edu/bus for specific times. All Rapid buses are FREE with a valid Grand Valley student ID. GVSU BUS ROUTES WECAR In partnership with GVSU, WeCar is the new initiative at Grand Valley allowing students to rent a car on a hourly basis in order to get around the Allendale and Grand Rapids area more conveniently. A membership is required to use the WeCar vehicles. Membership for students is $35, which counts as credit for future rentals. Each car has a hourly and daily rate depending on make and model. A credit card for fuel is included in each vehicle. You must be 18 or older to participate in the WeCar program. You must also have proof of insurance. 2012 GVSU, www.gvsu.edu/transportation North Campus Express The North Campus Express (Route 37) takes students from the Kirkhoff Center to the apartments north of West Campus Drive. During the Fall and Winter semesters, Route 37 runs Monday through Friday, every 6 to 7 minutes, and once an hour on the weekends (after 6 pm on Friday) Once a member of WeCar, reservations for the vehiles are made online with your membership card. Vehiles must be returned to the parking lot where it was picked up. Check www.gvsu.edu/transportation for up to date information regarding WeCar. South Campus Express The South Campus Express (Route 48) takes students from the Kirkhoff Center to the apartments south of campus. CARS & CARPOOLING BIKING If you choose to drive to campus, there are plenty of parking lots for resident and commuters students. Look for lots with a yellow R for residents or a red S for student commuters. Make sure to have the appropriate parking permit before parking on campus. Park & Ride is another option available to you in the Allendale area. GVSU Transportation has arranged two parking lots where students can park for free. The first lot is located at the Meijer on Wilson Avenue, the second is at Walker Fire Station on M-45. Both are next to a bus stop. Biking is another option available to you for getting around the GVSU campus and the Allendale area. All across campus in front of living areas and classroom there are designated bike racks for the safe keeping of all student bikes. You must register your bike to keep it on campus. Go to http://www.gvsu.edu/gvsu/bike.htm to register. If you are interested in carpooling (sharing a ride with another student) Grand Valley provides many options for matching you up with a carpool in your area.
