The pattern was set from the first game against Leicester when a 24 point lead was squandered. Time and again Gloucester lost from winning positions, and a disastrous defeat to Harlequins in March led to the resignation of head coach Laurie Fisher. The European Challenge Cup offered a chance to turn the season round, following a brilliant win away to La Rochelle in the semi-final, but the final was lost to the superior Stade Francais team. In the league, there were only seven wins, the fewest by Gloucester since the start of the Premiership, and the team finished ninth for the third time in four seasons.
