DuPont Personal Protection WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION... EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS... HOMELAND DEFENSE... The challenges are tough. The stakes are. Let us help you.
Emergency response has always been challenging, but now the challenges seem to be greater than ever. Even the best equipped and most ly trained response teams are wondering if they are properly prepared to handle the potential chemical/biological terrorist threats. When you are reevaluating your team s state of preparedness, you will undoubtedly be reviewing your protective garment choices and your training procedures. Because different hazards call for different levels of, DuPont offers a wide range of protective fabrics, garments and accessories to meet your needs. DuPont can also help you with your training needs. When you are selecting protective garments, there s a lot more than just fabric to consider. Garment style,, level of and available accessories are all important factors that must be considered before making your final selection. The foling information is provided to help you make an informed decision. If you need additional information or advice about selecting garments that will provide you with the best defense against a specific hazard, or if you would like to schedule training, call DuPont at 1-888-577-6960. fabric When it comes to protective apparel, it is vital to know what materials can permeate or penetrate the protective fabric in order to ensure the safety of the wearer. Knowing the difference between penetration and permeation is critical to your. Penetration testing measures the f of a gas, liquid or solid through a hole or opening in an otherwise solid material. Penetration tests are used to see if a fabric will leak or be able to stop or block the passage of a particulate matter or chemical. Permeation is something entirely different and equally if not more important. Permeation occurs when a chemical is absorbed until it saturates one side of the material and then desorbs, or diffuses, to the other side of the material. There doesn t need to be a hole or opening in the barrier for that to happen. Permeation testing is critical for fabrics that are exposed to hazardous liquids, vapors or gases. Data for individual DuPont fabrics are available through the Chemical Permeation Guide found on the website www.tyvekprotectiveapprl.com. seam construction The best protective garments in the world are useless without strong, tight seams. Just one loose thread or gap, and the barrier of can unravel and leave you vulnerable to injury or worse. SERGED OR SEWN Serged for a strong, stress-resistant connection. BOUND Tightly sewn and then reinforced with an outer binding to increase seam strength and barrier. penetration permeation ULTRASONIC OR NSR * A patented sealed seam produced when materials are lapped and thermally welded. There are no fillers, thread or needle holes. *no sewing required garment style Different jobs require different styles or configurations of protective garments. That s why DuPont offers a wide variety of garment styles from hoods and vests to aprons, coveralls and fully encapsulated suits (Level A and Level B). Fully encapsulated suits are available in front or rear entry with flat back for airline accommodations or an expanded back for SCBA accommodations. TAPED OR THERMOBOND Both sewn and to provide strong chemical resistance against heavy liquid splashes and tough seam stress. DOUBLE TAPED OR THERMOBOND MAX Sewn, then double on the inside and outside for a very strong chemical- and stress-resistant seam.
Call for help assessing your needs. Every emergency responder has the potential to be confronted by unknown hazards. They each have a job to do and need to be properly protected with the appropriate protective apparel and the proper training. If they re not properly prepared, they can t do their jobs protecting, defending and saving lives. DuPont wants to help. Call 1-888-577-6960. High can either be a help or a hindrance for emergency responders. For example, in hazardous situations, it is critical that emergency responders can be easily seen. Couple this with the fact that hazardous material emergencies often do not occur in well-lit environments, and the need for is an important feature in chemical protective apparel. The s chosen for DuPont fabrics were based on extensive research. For example, the lime yel and safety yel s of Tychem fabrics can be seen in a wider range of the visible spectrum than other garments. On the other hand, there are instances when being visible is as dangerous as the chemical or biological agent that will be encountered. When discretion is preferred or required, special fabrics, such as Tychem LV provide a camouflage effect against a variety of environments. faceshields STANDARD Different situations call for different styles of faceshields. In addition to a standard faceshield, DuPont offers several styles of faceshields that offer a greater field of vision, enabling the wearer to see more of what they are dealing with, reducing missteps and aling more EX (EXTRA-WIDE) natural movement and better eye contact/communication. The EX (extra-wide) faceshield features a wrap-around design that als a panoramic view with no visual obstructions. The Pana-Vu faceshield is wider and longer, providing expanded peripheral and vertical viewing. And, the 3-layer faceshield provides a better seal and als more time to get to a safe zone. storm flap The storm flap covers the zipper/closure area for added. respirators Fully encapsulated suits are available in front or rear entry with flat back for airline accommodations or an expanded back for SCBA accommodations. For information about respirators, contact your local distributor. valves DuPont fully encapsulated suits feature two extra--pressure exhaust valves with covers that provide extra against inward leakage and over-inflation. The flip-top valve covers al for safe and easy access to the valve during pressure testing. A testing adapter connects directly to the exhaust valve, aling suit pressure testing to be performed without valve removal. This means testing can be conducted quickly and safely. loose fitting sleeves Ensure that wearer can pull arm into garment for access to faceshield and SCBA. attached gloves Several types of glove systems are available from DuPont, including: a standard ring and clamp glove system, a field replaceable glove system and a dual glove system. Detailed information about these glove systems can be found on the inside back cover of this brochure. airtight closure Vapor- and liquid-splash protective closure is covered by two storm flaps. attached sock booties Attached sock booties are to be worn inside your own chemical protective boots. The outer boot flap cover is for additional. Note: Not all features are available on all garments.
