Dear IDEA member, Idaho Dressage and Eventing Association http://www.idahodressageandeventing.org We currently have 4 sponsors for IDF. Yikes-we need so much more than that! But, like they say, it ain t over til the fat lady sings... so I ve been eating a lot- haha ;) Contact Gina Gildone for sponsorships! We have extended the deadline for sponsors and vendors to May 1 st!!! I love the programs that we have. I hope that you do to! Each year we take a look again at where we are at. Can we still afford to do our Show Rebate Program? Our Clinic Assistance Program? Can we afford to pay out $2,000 for a clinic like the Hilda Gurney one? Each year it comes down to this one important thing- the Idaho Dressage Festival has to do well for us to provide these programs! In case you are not aware of this, The IDEA does not make much of anything on your memberships- although we always want to grow our memberships as part of growing the sport of dressage and eventing in Idaho... the USDF takes $20 per member ($10 for supporting members) we pay the chapters $10 per member ($5 for secondary family member). $7 per member goes for our awards. So you average about $10 working money per member. It s amazing how few people know that... I remember when we first had the idea of putting on the Idaho Dressage festival. I asked the advise of a number of people who had lots of show experience and was advised against doing the show more times than not. I remember that we did it anyway, even when we were told that no one would come to Idaho for a show like this. Kudos to the board and to the volunteers who had the guts to make a go of it against the odds! Now can you even picture NOT having the festival? Actually that thought is as easy as no one stepping up to organize it, support it, or volunteer for it. It s as close as that... It s amazing how few people know that... President's Bit Continued... But it s on, it s happening, (and entries are open BTW) because of the people who OWN this event... I hope you all know just how important you are, God bless all of you- every person who has given in ANY way. This area is on the map because of you. This area does a ton of good because of all of you, and this area has grown in its quality of horses, riders and trainers tremendously because of you. I mean it- and I am proud of what we have done here. Let s keep dreaming big!! nuf said... Each Chapter is asked to give something to the festival. Usually it s a silent auction item, but it can be a class or championship sponsorship, or even the pledge of bringing a few carloads of volunteers (I have a couple extra bedrooms if anyone needs a place to stay-fyi!) Contact Deanna Wirz for vendors and silent auction. Competitors: go to www.eqentries.com to enter the Idaho Dressage Festival and you get a chance to win a saddle pad for the most perfect entry! We will be having a 10 th anniversary freestyle celebration! All of the freestyle rides for Saturday will be happening at that time, while we celebrate 10 years of the Idaho Dressage Festival! Volunteers Needed for the Idaho Dressage Festival! The 2014 Idaho Dressage Festival is coming up May 17th and 18th! As you all know, we will need a crew of volunteers for this show. There are 120 hours of volunteer time needed each day. Volunteers willing to help at our show are truly appreciated for their generosity and willingness to give back to our dressage community! We are really counting on some help from everyone to make this show successful! If you are able to volunteer please forward your contact information to Robin Tomasi */ASAP!!!!/* Also let me know: * What position(s) you are interested in? * How many hours can you volunteer? * What day(s) are you available if you know now. * What time(s) - if you know before ride times come out, if not we can work out times later. These volunteer positions are needing to be filled: * Scribe: You will sit with the judge and write comments on the test. Usually experienced. Secretary will have all tests gathered for you. You must check number against horse in arena. * Runner: This position is very important for the competitors. You will get the test from the judges/scribes between rides, being careful not to disturb any rider in the competition arena. You will run the test to the scorers so they can figure the score and we can get them posted for the riders to see. * Scorer: Using an adding machine, you will tabulate the scores on the test sheet, printing a running tally. The secretary will double check them for you. * Gate Steward: You will run the gate between the warm-up and the competition arena. Letting riders in at their designated time and checking bits on the horses as they leave. Any questions about this procedure can be directed to me or the TD. You will have a radio and exam gloves provided. * Warm Up Steward Inside: You will run the door between the outside warm-up and the inside warm-up. We allow two riders per arena inside. You will be given a class list and a radio to keep track of riders. *Warm Up Steward outside: You will let riders know in the outside arena when they can go to the indoor arena (see above). You will have a radio and a class list to keep track of riders. * Hospitality Helper - This position(s) requires taking judges (or coordinating with hotel to make sure THEY do it-caroline has info) to and from the airport, getting them meals or taking them out to a restaurant, etc. Also in between times helping Mary post scored in computer. This year we are offering the BEST ever volunteer thank you gifts: Each full 4-hour volunteer shift will receive a free festival poster OR a free festival T-Shirt, PLUS will receive two $5 "Dressage Dollar" vouchers. The shift can be completed all at once or in two hour increments. Dressage Dollars can be used just like real money in a number of ways: 2014 IDF vendor purchases, 2014 IDF concession stand food/drinks, 2014 IDF Silent auction items, IDEA 2014 or 2015 Membership 2014-15 IDEA recognized show entry fee or Les Bois chapter show entry fee OR-- Dressage Dollars can be donated to the IDEA Jr/Young Rider fund! Your donations to the IDEA Junior Young Rider Trust will help Region 6 Idaho Team members realize their dream to compete in the North American Junior Young Rider Championships in Kentucky. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your support! Robin Tomasi Volunteer Coordinator
