OBJECTIVE The ojective of this experiment ws to compre the reltive efficcy of the plnt growth retrdnts Concise TM (uniconzole, Fine Americs, Inc.) nd Sumgic (uniconzole, Vlent USA Corp.) on three species of edding plnts, one herceous perennil nd one potted flowering crop.
METHODS The chemicl pplictions were mde 8 dys nd 12 dys fter plnting of edding plnts nd Lilium, respectively. For Delphinium, the chemicl pplictions were mde when plnts egn to olt, 25 dys fter trnsplnting. A single folir spry of Concise or Sumgic (2 qt./100 ft 2 ) ws mde etween 9:00 nd 10:00 m on the dy of ppliction. The plnts were grown in glss greenhouse. The temperture setpoint ws constnt 20 ºC nd the ctul verge ir temperture ws 22.3 ±2.5 ºC. Plnts were grown under nturl dylengths (lt. 42 N). Plnt height ws mesured on the dte of the chemicl ppliction nd t 2 nd 4 weeks fter the ppliction. Dte of first flowering ws recorded for ech plnt, nd time to flower ws clculted.

CONCLUSIONS Concise nd Sumgic re oth effective t controlling stem elongtion in Clircho hyrid Cllie Yellow, Delphinium grndiflorum Summer Blues, Lilium Americ, Nepet fssenii Wlkers Low, Suter cordt Showers Bridl, nd Veren Semi Triling Lni Blue. In ll species except Nepet, there were no differences in growth retrdtion etween ppliction rtes of either chemicl (e.g., Concise pplied t 2 ppm produced similr response s Sumgic pplied t 2 ppm). For Nepet, single spry of Concise t 45 ppm continued to inhiit stem extension 4 weeks fter ppliction, while the effectiveness of Sumgic diminished. Concise nd Sumgic hd no effect on time to flower in ll species except Delphinium. There were no differences in the numer of flowers mong ny tretments for ll species.
