Bats RHP Jackson Stephens earned his first career Triple-A win. He allowed just two hits over the first five innings, but was chased in the sixth after giving up two run homeruns to Clipper sluggers Bradley Zimmer and Richie Shaffer. Stephens final line was 5.2 innings pitched, allowing seven hits, four runs, two walks, and five strikeouts. TRANSACTIONS: The Cincinnati Reds have called up OF Jesse Winker and optioned RHP Barrett Astin to Triple-A Louisville. When Winker appears in a contest for the Reds, it will be his Major League Debut. Winker in eight games with the Bats collected four multi-hit games batting.323 (10-31) with 5 RBI. Astin has pitched in one game with the Bats this season on 4/9, working two scoreless innings. When he was with the Reds, Astin appeared in two games and tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball. ERIVIN ERRUPTS: Bats OF Phil Ervin sparked the offense in last night s 11 run outburst. Ervin got the scoring started with an RBI ground rule double in the second inning. He finished the night 3-5 with a run scored and 3 RBI. He has hit safely in six of the seven games he has started for Louisville. Last night s big performance upped his average to.321 (9-28). HITTING STREAK: Bats slugger Sebastian Elizalde is on an eight game hitting streak to begin 2017 extending it with a 1-4 performance last night. He has collected a multi-hit game in six of the first eight contests. Elizalde is hitting.457 (16-35) which is best on the Bats team and second best in the International League behind Tyler Wade of SWB.500 (12-24). HITTING FOR AVERAGE: After last night s 15 hit attack, the Bats team batting average jumped to an even.300. Louisville is first in the International League in team batting average ahead of Charlotte s.283 AVG. Despite the league best batting average, Louisville ranks fourth in the IL in total runs scored (40). RUNS PER GAME: In the Bats 3 Wins this season, they are averaging 9.3 runs per game. In Louisville s 5 Losses, they are scoring on average 2.4 runs per game. Over the course of the first eight games, the Bats offense is producing 5.0 runs per game. BATS PITCHING: The Bats pitching staff has been doing their part by posting a 3.27 ERA through the first eight games. That ERA is fifth best in the International League. Louisville is the only team among the top five teams in ERA to have a losing record (3-5). WE MEET AGAIN: Tonight s pitching matchup is the same one as last Sunday as Bats RHP Lisalverto Bonilla squares off against Clippers LHP Shawn Morimando. Louisville came away with a 10-4 win when these two squared off five days ago. Morimando was roughed up in 3.1 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits, walking four, and striking out four. Bonilla notched the win in his Bats debut going six innings, giving up four runs on seven hits, and striking out six. HUNTINGTON PARK PROBLEMS: The Bats are on the road for the first time in 2017. After finishing up 2-5 on the seven game home stand, Louisville visits Columbus where they went 6-5 a year ago. The Bats have had problems at Huntington Park over the years though as their all-time record at the venue is 30-55. In 2016, Louisville was 39-34 on the road. WHAT S NEXT: Tonight the Bats and Clippers play game two of a four game set in Columbus. Louisville returns home after this four game set and an off day on Monday for a six game home stand, 4/18-4/23. The home stand kicks off Tuesday night with Scranton in town for three, followed by a three game weekend set with Durham.
