Dear Readers: LETTER Summer is just around the corner! Everybody will be going to their favorite beaches while getting tan and sipping down smoothies. Summer is a great way to express yourself through swimming, shopping, and sports. Also, I got to go to Michigan with one of my best friends last summer. We got to go to the beautiful beaches and get snow cones on the way. When Ms. Miller told us about the project, deadline, I couldn t help but think about my experiences in Michigan and the wonderful beaches I encountered. So I wanted to bring the summer time to my readers by letting them get the latest scoop on fashion, hot new sports, and new inventions that could totally turn your summer around. So sit back and enjoy Teen Life with the latest and best advice ever! Thank you so much for buying and reading my magazine! I would like to thank all of the people who contributed to my magazine like McKenzie Rasmussen, Zong Xiong, Season Bennett, Jacob Hebbe, Sam Hebbe, Tia Jones, Faith Behnke, Ally Garson, and Nicole Johnson! The people that contributed to my magazine were very respectful of the deadline I gave them. Everybody mostly met the deadline but also, some of them didn t. I was still very pleased that they gave their best effort to get them to me. My magazine couldn t have been better! With deadline, I got to talk to people I normally wouldn t have talked to before. I also learned how hard it is to get stuff done on time. Sometimes I would have to stay up and finish ads for people at home, so I wouldn t have to worry about it the next day. It was very hard to get people s ads and articles done by a certain time because you have about five different other things to be working on. But all in all I liked the experience and I would totally do it again! FROM My goal for this magazine was to give the readers the best summer advice so they could get awesome ideas for their next summer! I wanted the reader to be excited about being a teen and having fun. We are only teens for a little while, so you should enjoy it while it lasts. My favorite article was one that McKenzie Rasmussen wrote. The article was on summer fashion, but backwards. She acted like all the out stuff was in fashion. I thought it brought a great sense to the magazine because it gives you an outside look on what other kinds of clothes there are. And It gave me a laugh especially! McKenzie is an amazing writer and I was so happy I got to include her in it! I really liked the ad from Faith about the All Natural Cherry Berry candy bar. I was very happy with it because I liked that it was hand drawn and I also liked how neat and organized it was. She is a great artist and I m also very happy that she was one of the contributors to my magazine. In every assignment there are struggles, in deadline there was a lot for me. At first I didn t turn in my 3/3 because I wasn t ready and I was kind of slacking a little, sorry. Then I didn t turn my 5/5 in because I was waiting for people to sell me their items I asked for, and finally I almost missed 10/10 because I was also waiting for an ad. I did have my struggles and of course I had stress about getting it done, but it was fun anyways. I really enjoyed it! My magazine turned out awesome with the help of all of my friends. I had an amazing time getting to deal and sell items with everyone I knew. The articles were written so well by Season Bennett, Nicole Johnson, McKenzie Rasmussen, Zong Xiong, Ally Garson, and Jacob Hebbe. My ads were polished and perfected by Tia Jones, Faith Behnke, Abby Luedtke, Tristan Farenkrug, and Abby Nelson.

THE EDITOR Over all, the deadline experience was decent. Making magazines digitally was very cool and very 21 st Century, The 21 st Century is becoming more technological and doesn t seem like slowing down at any time. With my hand held device, I can take my magazine anywhere I want, at any time and always recall this experience. Thanks you to everyone who helped me and edited my magazine for me. Summer is around the corner and it s time to have fun. Sincerely, Katie Guyette Editor in Chief, Teen Life

LETTERS TO Dear Editor: Your magazine on teen s life has been extremely amazing! You have the best articles and stories for teenagers all around the world. I love how your previous magazines went into such detail with all the different topics and I also like how you have a variety of different things throughout each magazine-it truly makes me want to keep getting your magazines monthly because I know I won t be reading about the same topic twice in a row. I think your magazines are the absolute best for teenagers to read and I would recommend it to all teenagers also. I enjoy receiving your magazines in the mail monthly and I hope the upcoming issues are as good as the previous! Sincerely, Ashley Stillman Hortonville, WI

THE EDITOR Dear Editor: I really liked your column on the top ten things teens like to do. I was surprised that playing sports was only number four. I think that everyone should read that article. I think it would help people understand teens and their lives. I really hope you keep up the good work. Sincerely, Sam Hebbe Hortonville, WI P.S. I really like your magazine. Dear Editor: Thank you so much for your magazine! It has helped me so much with my boy problems and school drama. Now, I don t spread any rumors about others and I stand up to bullies. I have higher and better self-esteem too because I know that I am not alone in my crazy hectic teen life. Thank you again, Zong Xiong Hortonville, WI

2013 Summer Fashion By: McKenzie Rasmussen The 2013 summer fashion is going to be very unique! As the CEO of the business PURPLE, I know all the ins and outs of what s going to be hot and what s not for this upcoming summer. But, what I am going to reveal with you will most likely be the opposite of what you think will be the coolest look this summer. It was even a surprise to me what my designers had in mind, but after much consideration, I think our business will be the first to start a new trend! I am very excited to share it with all of you. First of all, most of you have already thought of what cute neon, bright outfit you are going to put together this year. But let me tell you, neon is NOT the way to go. This summer s fashion is dark, dull colors. Now most of you are wondering, how are dark colors going to work in the summer? Well, they re not. That s what our business is trying to do! Reverse psychology. The only way to stand out is to wear the OPPOSITE of what people would expect you to wear! Thus, to be original this summer you need to wear dark, gloomy colors. Our next new trend is turtlenecks. These, matched with our dark colors, are sure to be a hit! You may get a little toasty, but don t worry, they are all sleeveless! You will never know that they are made out of 100% cotton for they are very roomy and not skin-tight at all! Actually, they are very baggy! All of our turtlenecks come with unique patterns such as horses. We are also bringing back Crocs. These comfy shoes are very easy to pair with any outfit, especially since our Crocs only come in black, white, and tan! These neutral colors can go with anything, and still look spectacular. Another advantage of Crocs is that you can wear them in any weather! You can wear Crocs when it s raining or when it s sunny! And for you trendy people out there, we are even having a limited time offer on Crocs that come with zippers! These shoes are so functional and will never slip off your feet like those flimsy flip-flops. Another great trend is our original terry cloth shorts. These shorts are so comfortable, it will feel like you are in pajamas! Unlike those jean shorts that are so tight and hard to sit down in, these are fully functional and you are able to complete any activity in them. You can go for a walk, do chores, or even go on a bike ride in them! These shorts are going to be the most popular item on the market, so when they are released on June 5 th, you better be the first in line! Yet another great trend that PURPLE is creating this summer is wearing socks with sandals. Have you ever been wearing flip flops and your feet are FILTHY when you return home? Yes, that seems to happen to a lot of us. But, when you combine comfy socks with trendy sandals, you have the perfect combo. Our business has created attached socks and sandals that are only $10! These will be the talk of the town. Our next new item are t-shirts with stripes AND polka dots. I am sure that most of us have struggled with the decision to wear either stripes or polka dots, but now you can wear both! The patterns are strategically placed so that it is not too overwhelming, but not too boring and dull at the same time. And finally, our last creation that my business has created is long skirts that can pull off to become knee-length skirts. Living in Wisconsin, I personally know that the summer mornings can start off a little chilly. But throughout the day, temperatures can climb to nearly 100! Thus, we needed to create an item that can accommodate to both temperatures. So, these skirts start off as

long, ankle-length skirts. But at anytime, all you do is un-zip the skirt and BOOM; you have a knee-length skirt. There is a zipper that goes 360 around your knees, but don t worry, it is hardly noticeable. These skirts are the perfect compromise to the cold mornings and the warm afternoons. In conclusion, PURPLE is going to be the next big trend-setter this summer. Our style is so fresh, that every business is going to want our creations. I cannot wait to see the success of our items this summer, and especially cannot wait to see everyone wearing our clothes! This summer s fashion is going to push the envelope, but it will pay off in the end!

High School Cheerleading By: Season Bennett High school cheerleading isn t about popular girls or looks, but about fun and spending time with friends. High school cheerleading is a great way to spend time with friends and make new ones. It s also a great way to try a new sport and have fun. You can learn new skills or tricks and learn a routine and stunts. If you are a part of a varsity cheer team you can compete at competitions. High school cheerleading is also the kind of sport you always need to stay committed too. You aren t alone you are on a team so you got to trust others and they will trust you. In high school cheerleading you also have to learn a chant and hold up props. In a cheer routine you have motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, baskets, and dance. For stunting you have a flier who goes up in the air and is thrown in a basket. Then you have a back spot who is the back person who holds the fliers ankles and catches her upper back for baskets. Two bases that are on each side of the flier and grab her foot and put the flier up in the air, they also throw the flier in the air for a basket and catch her lower back. And sometimes you have a front spot that is in the front and grabs the upper ankles of the flier and keeps her up when she wobbles. Cheerleading also comes with some injuries to. If you don t keep your flier up you probably will get a bruise or even worse so make sure your stunt works together and knows the counts. Tumbling is also the other part of the routine where most injuries occur. In tumbling always watch your form or you could get hurt and have to sit out. You also need to have a strong core and also know the counts so you know when to go. In cheerleading you work with other girls and you need to work as a team so always give one- hundred ten percent. Always remember your team is counting on you. As a flier you always have too stretch and know your counts because if you don t you won t succeed and practice makes perfect so if you re a flier or want to be, remember to stretch every day and pull your positions. A flier pulls a scorpion which is a position where she grabs her ankle and pulls her leg behind her with both hands. There is also a scale which is like a scorpion where you grab your ankle and pull your leg straight out. And finally there is the bow and arrow where the flier kicks her leg in front of her and grabs her ankle and pulls her arm through. Cheerleading is an amazing sport but you have to have dedication and I recommend it to any girl who is active and sporty or looking to try something new.

Handle Ball By: Jacob Hebbe What is it? Handle Ball is a new type of sport that involves riding on a bike and throwing the ball and then sticking it in your handlebars until you need to pass the ball. The game started when a group of kids were playing keep away on their bikes and they thought that it would be a fun game so they called it Handle Ball. What do you use while playing? What you need to play is a bike, a ball, a group of kids to play with, a place to play, and then a referee. You start by giving the ball to a team and then starting the clock. Then you ride back and forth trying to throw the ball in to the other teams net. If you do that your team gets a point and then you try to prevent the other team from scoring. What are the positions? You will need one goal keeper. Five offensive players (strikers). Five defensive players (blockers). And finally, you will need two back up players for emergencies. Then you will need to get another team to play you in the game. They also will need to have all those players. First Game! The first game of hand ball ever was played in New York, New York. Now people from all around the world are playing it. I went to New York and met with the kids who invented this game and they said that it really wasn t their idea it just kind of happened while they were sitting around. How big is Handle Ball? Handle Ball has gotten so big that now there are Handle Ball tournaments. There are Professional Handle Ball balls. They even have a web site called www.handleball.com. There are even buildings that are being built so that people can play Handle Ball during the winter. What will Handle Ball be like in the future? Experts estimate that out of one million people, over seventy-five percent of them play Handle Ball. Also that in the next couple years, over ninety percent of the whole world s population will be playing Handle Ball. Where can you play Handle Ball? You can play Handle Ball anywhere you can ride bikes and throw a ball. You can even play it on the street! Just be aware of cars if you play in the street. You may want to get a couple days or weeks of practice in before you play. You will definitely want to get even more in if you are going to be playing in a big tournament. When will there be a tournament? There are tournaments all year round. They may be indoors or they may be outdoors. It all depends on the weather and how many teams there are going to be. What will people do to get to a Handle Ball game? People will do anything to get into a Handle Ball game. Some people will even jump fences just to see a game. The sport attracts hockey fans because of the physicality of the game. They also go because when hockey is done, they have nothing to watch so they pick Handle Ball. The game has such a large audience that they need to use football and baseball fields sometimes to fit the games that they have. When will there be a tournament? There are tournaments all year round. Sometimes they even had to take some players out of the game so they would still be able to let the game continue. Over the years this hasn t

been an issue any more. That s part of the reason why Handle Ball has become so famous all around the world.

Make up By: Nicole Johnson the celebrities use this brand. There has never been a complaint. To get your new kit please visit www.lovergirl.com. Make up is the perfect way to add some color to your face. You don t need a lot just a little. Your face is one thing people look at a lot. You want it to be appealing to others, especially if it s a first impression. For work make up, try to match the color of your shirt. If there is multiple colors go for the color that there isn t a lot of. Use a light red blush to offset your checks. When putting on eyeliner make sure you put it on thin. For school you don t want to look like a clown just uses a tiny bit of make up like: foundation, eye liner, and mascara. You can also use a tiny bit of eye shadow too. Make sure your foundation is rubbed all the way in so it blends with your skin tone. When putting on your eye shadow put it on lightly, not to dark to make your eyes look dark. The eye shadow is just to make the color of your eyes stand out. You want your make up to match your outfit but yet pop so people look at everything. Lipstick is the easiest to apply but yet people put way too much on. Try to find a light color just to add color. A little red or pink goes with everything. Try to stay away from the colors like blue, purple and green. These colors are not made to be on your lips. They may look cool but do not where it in public. That kind of makeup would be great for competitive dance team with neon colors or for Halloween. These light colors are fantastic for starters with makeup. Young girls should start with the easy to put on makeup. For more information please call 1-800-492-3567. We highly recommend the brand of Lover Girl. These products are the best all of
