USYS Heading Agenda Restriction/Implementation/Recommendations November 14, 2017 Kids 10 years old & under NO heading in practice or games Does NOT matter if this player is playing up in an older age group they may NOT head! Deliberate heading is not allowed in 11U games because this is the age group most affected by players age 10 and younger since many players turn 11 years old over the range of a year. Kids 12 years old and older heading allowed during games Need to be taught purposeful heading/proper form Encourage neck and core strength in these younger players 20-25 headers max/week in practices (less than 30 minutes total time/week heading) Special Note: USYS suggests that any league that combines 11U and 12U for competition should strongly consider NOT allowing heading in any game in that combined group s play.
