Health & Safety Product Data Sheet

1. Identification of Substance Substance Precast concrete products, typically lintols and other precast products. Company Tullyleek Precast Concrete Limited 41a Pomeroy Rd Dungannon Co.Tyrone N.Ireland, BT70 3AZ Tel : (028) 8776 1313 Fax : (028) 8776 1155 2. Composition Precast concrete products are composed of cementitious material, aggregates which may contain silica, colour pigments and admixtures. Some products may contain steel reinforcing and or alkali resistant glass fibre reinforcing. 3. Hazards Identification The products as supplied are of an inert nature and inherently non hazardous to health. Concrete dust cutting and surface treatment can create dust and flying fragments. The dust created could contain particles of a respirable size which may contain silica. Extended periods of exposure to high concentrations of such dust can be hazardous to health. Certain products, dependant on size and density, are generally heavy. These factors increase the risk of physical injury. Removal of wrapping /strapping under tension may cause: Products to fall from the stack Eye injury from strap ends.

4. First Aid Measures Airborne dust Inhalation Removal from exposure to fresh air Skin Contact Wash with water Eye Contact Immediately irrigate with copious amounts of water and seek medical attention. Ingestion Remove from exposure to fresh air 5. Fire fighting measures None needed. 6. Accidental release measures Personal Protection: In the event of the creation of dust during surface treatments or cutting, avoid breathing in the dust. wear dust mask/respirator and goggles as specified is section eight - Exposure controls/personal protection. Environmental Measures: The release of dust into the atmosphere does not constitute a significant hazard. waste product and waste packaging i.e. wooden pallets, steel/plastic straps, polythene wrapping, should be disposed of in accordance with local authority requirements. Methods of Cleaning: Vacuum system. Water spraying to prevent airborne dust. Where possible avoid dry sweeping which creates dust. Damp down surfaces.

7. Handling and Storage When dust may be created: Surface treatment and cutting should be minimised to avoid the creation of airborne dust. Where this is not available, engineering controls such as containment and local exhaust ventilation should be applied when airborne dust exposure levels are approached. Products as delivered: i) The weight and surface nature of the product requires the use of protective gloves and footwear. ii) The manual handling of such loads should not be attempted without a risk assessment as required by the Manual Handling of Loads at Work Regulations 1992. iii) Use correct craneage for off-loading vehicles. Properly constructed c hooks with spreader bar or canvas/fabric slings with a central lift are recommended for long loads such as lintols. Packs of precast products supplied with or without wooden pallets should be securely clamped by means of a block handling clamp, preferably fitted with stabiliser gates during off-loading and transportation on site. iv) Where lifting points are provided, the lifting points must be used. v) Where lifting points are not provided, then suitable (canvas/fabric) should be used around the product and never through it. Correct craneage should always be utilised. vi) Care should be taken when breaking down products stacks either on the delivery vehicle or on site from falling product and/or cut strapping. vii) The products should be stacked on a firm, level surface capable of supporting the load in a stable condition. Stack heights must be limited to the security of the product as packaged subject to risk assessment. viii) Product stacks elevated by means of tower or similar cranes should be netted for additional security.

8. Exposure Control / Personal Protection Occupational exposure limits: Please refer to the latest issue of EH40 for current limits Engineering control measures for dust: see section seven, Handling and storage Personal Protection: Respiratory protection: to HSE approved standard Hand protection: safety goggles to HSE approved standard for dust and impact Skin Protection: overalls Foot Protection: to BSEN345 Safety footwear 9. Physical and chemical properties Odourless shaped components of precast concrete. Other chemical properties not applicable. 10. Stability and reactivity Not applicable 11. Toxicological information Airborne dust Health effects On eyes: may cause transient irritation. On skin: unlikely to cause harm on brief or occasional contact. By inhalation: inhalation of large quantities of respirable silica may lead to progressive lung damage. This may cause permanent disability and in extreme cases, may be fatal. By ingestion: unlikely to cause harm. Chronic: exposure to high levels of silica may cause progressive silicosis. Others: none known

12. Ecological information Environmental Assessment: When used and disposed of as intended, no adverse environmental effects are foreseen. 13. Disposal Considerations Is not classified as hazardous for disposal purposes. Subject to local authority disposal requirements. 14. Transport Information Classification for conveyance not required. 15. Regulatory Information Hazard Label Data: This product is NOT classified as dangerous for supply in the UK.
