All 11 teams kick off their 2014-15 campaigns this weekend. Two teams, East Carolina and USF, take the court in tournaments at neutral sites, while six others open up their seasons at home. UConn and Houston are on the road for their season openers, and Tulane splits up the action this weekend hosting Mississippi Valley State on Friday before traveling to McNeese State on Sunday. UConn was the unanimous favorite to win the 2015 American women s basketball title in a preseason poll of the 11 head coaches. USF was picked to finish second and was followed by East Carolina, Temple and Tulane. UConn junior forward Breanna Stewart was the preseason pick for American Player of the Year. Teammate Kia Nurse was selected as the preseason American Freshman of the Year. Stewart and USF junior guard Courtney Williams were unanimous selections to the All-American Athletic Conference preseason first team. The Bulls return 13 players from last season s WNIT Final Four squad. USF s non-conference slate features eight games against NCAA tournament teams from last season. CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS UConn is ranked No. 1 in both the AP and USA Today preseason polls. USF is receiving votes in both polls. Tulane, who joined The American this summer, left Conference USA as the winningest basketball program. Senior guard Jamie Kaplan was a 2013-14 Honorable Mention All-American and ranked seventh in the NCAA with 6.7 assists per game last season. The 99 game American Athletic Conference schedule is highlighted by national televised games on ESPN and CBS Sports Network. The league also features a number of non-conference games that will be carried by its national television partners. Every game in the American Women s Basketball Championship is aired live on the ESPN family of networks. Thirty conference women s basketball games will be produced and distributed live by The American Digital Network and will air on www.theamerican.org/dn free of charge. American women s basketball enjoyed tremendous success in its inaugural season. UConn won a NCAA record ninth women s basketball title while five teams qualified for postseason play (UConn, East Carolina, USF, SMU, and Tulane). Additionally, over 400,000 fans attended home games this past season.

Nov. 14 vs. La Salle Last Five:...0-0 UConn will begin the 2014-15 campaign ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation for the second consecutive year and third in the last five seasons. The Huskies are 25-4 in season openers since Geno Auriemma took over the program prior to the 1985-86 season. UConn is riding an 18-game win streak heading into the team s first contest of the year at UC Davis. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Breanna Stewart became the first pair of teammates to earn a spot on the Associated Press Preseason All-America team in multiple seasons after the duo earned a place on the team in both the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. The 2014-15 Memphis roster features no seniors and six newcomers. Junior guard Ariel Hearn was selected to the preseason all-conference first team. She led Memphis in scoring with 17.8 points per game last season. Hearn had a second-straight 100-plus assist season in 2013-14, finishing with 109, and became the first Tiger since LaToya Bullard to have back-to-back 100 assist seasons. Redshirt sophomore Mooriah Rowser came back from knee surgery to appear in all 31 Memphis games with 21 starts in 2013-14. Temple was picked to finish fourth in the American Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll, while sophomore Feyonda Fitzgerald was a preseason second team all-conference selection. Temple kicks its season off on Friday hosting Philadelphia Big 5 rival La Salle. The Owls are 46-25 all-time in season openers, including a 14-4 record since 1995. Temple s roster features five returning letterwinners and four newcomers. 4 2014-15 American Athletic Conference Women s Basketball
