The Bruins won the Pac-12 co-championship, earning back-to-back conference titles for the first time in school history. UCLA posted a 48-16 overall record, logging its second-highest single-season win total in program history. The Bruins finished second among 11 teams in the Pac-12 Conference in batting average (.304) and ERA (3.13). Among national rankings, UCLA finished the year No. 17 in batting average and No. 22 in ERA. UCLA landed six players on the All-Pac-12 Conference team and had seven MLB draft selections. UCLA compiled the nation s top record in road/neutral site games, going 21-6 away from home this year. The Bruins have advanced to the postseason in six of seven seasons, including two CWS trips in three years. The Bruins are ninth, nationally, with 134 wins in the last three seasons (ranks first among Pac-12 teams). UCLA is one of four schools to have hosted NCAA Regionals the last three years (Florida, South Carolina, Virginia). TOP MARKS UCLA batted.304 in 2012, a 41-point jump in batting average after hitting at a.263 clip in 2011. Closer Scott Griggs established UCLA s single-season saves record, logging 15 saves in 17 opportunities. Berg posted the nation s top WHIP, allowing an average of 0.80 walks and hits per inning during his freshman year. Beau Amaral scored a team-leading 63 runs, the most runs scored by a Bruin since 2000 (Chase Utley, 81). BANNER SEASON UCLA won the Pac-12 co-championship, tied with Arizona at 20-10 in conference games, after having won the outright Pac-10 title in 2011. Following a three-game sweep of USC to close the regular season, UCLA earned the No. 2 national seed in the NCAA Tournament, hosting the NCAA Los Angeles Regional for the third consecutive season. The Bruins swept through the regional and won two games against TCU in the NCAA Los Angeles Super Regional, advancing to the College World Series for the second time in three seasons (fourth time in school history). BACK TO OMAHA After having advanced to the finals of the College World Series for the first time in program history in 2010, UCLA returned to Omaha, Neb., in 2012 after having won 16 of its previous 17 games. Tyler Heineman became UCLA s highest-drafted catcher since 1990, when Paul Ellis was taken in the supplemental first round (No. 30) by the St. Louis Cardinals. Jeff Gelalich became the highestdrafted UCLA position player since Chase Utley went No. 15 overall to the Philadelphia Phillies in 2000. Over the last 16 seasons (1997-2012), UCLA has seen nine of its players selected in the first round or suppplemental first round. HIGHLY DRAFTED Head coach John Savage has produced 58 MLB Draft selections in his eight seasons at UCLA. Earlier this month, Jeff Gelalich became the fourth UCLA player under Savage s tenure to have been picked in the first round or supplemental first round. Last June, right-handers Gerrit Cole (Pittsburgh) and Trevor Bauer (Arizona) became the first and third overall selections in the MLB Draft. Three of Savage s pitchers have already been promoted to the major leagues (Hector Ambriz, David Huff and Josh Roenicke). Most recently, three-year UCLA shortstop Brandon Crawford was promoted to the San Francisco Giants in May 2011. Of the 58 draft selections, 21 have been selected in the first 10 rounds. ROSTER BREAKDOWN UCLA s 34-man roster featured 31 players from California and one from Arizona, Nevada and Washington. The team included nine juniors, 12 sophomores and 13 freshmen. Redshirt junior Chase Brewer was UCLA s most veteran member. Brewer, along with juniors Beau Amaral, Trevor Brown, Jeff Gelalich, Scott Griggs, Tyler Heineman, Cody Keefer and Cody Regis, and redshirt sophomores Ryan Deeter, Matt Giovinazzo and Aaron Weimer were the remaining members from UCLA s 2010 College World Series team. SEVEN-YEAR COMPOSITE In conference games since 2006, UCLA ranks second in wins (111) and win percentage (.610). The Bruins are fourth in total wins (260) and in overall win percentage (.610) among Pac-12 teams. UCLA and Arizona split the 2012 Pac-12 title, and UCLA won the 2011 Pac-10 championship in outright fashion for the first time since 1986. The Bruins finished second in 2010 and earned a third-place finish from 2006 through 2009. PAC-12 GAMES (2006-2012) Team Wins Losses Pct. VERSATILITY Junior Trevor Brown emerged as UCLA s most versatile position player the past three years. From 2010-2012, Brown played catcher, first base, second base, third base and right field. As a junior in 2012, the native of Valencia, Calif., batted.321 with a team-leading 52 RBI in all 64 games. Brown made 22 career starts at catcher and 41 starts at first base in 2012. He started 31 career games at second base (including 24 starts at that position in 2011) and nine at third base. Brown made his debut in the outfield, playing right field, on May 8 in UCLA s 6-2 victory at Pepperdine. A former teammate at Hart High School with Trevor Bauer and Pat Valaika, Brown was selected in the 10th round of the 2012 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. PRESEASON PREDICTIONS UCLA was selected fourth in the Pac-12 s preseason coaches poll. Stanford, Arizona and Arizona State earned the top three spots, respectively. The remaining seven teams included (in order) Oregon State, California, Oregon, USC, Washington State, Washington and Utah. UCLA has not finished any lower than third place in the Pac-12 Conference since 2005. The Bruins won the Pac-10 title in outright fashion in 2011 for the first time since 1986 (three-way tie in 2000).

POSTSEASON BESTS Jeff Gelalich became the sixth player in UCLA history to have hit two home runs in a postseason game during his 3-for-4, four-rbi effort against Creighton (June 3). Gelalich s two-home run game sparked the Bruins to a 13-5 win over Creighton in the final NCAA Los Angeles Regional contest. Cody Regis accomplished the feat as a freshman in 2010, belting two homers in UCLA s 11-7 win over Cal State Fullerton in the NCAA Super Regional. STRONG STARTERS Adam Plutko has logged the second-lowest postseason ERA of any UCLA pitcher in school history (0.88 ERA), among players with a minimum 12.0 innings. Plutko has allowed three earned runs in 30.2 innings over four career postseason starts. Likewise, Nick Vander Tuig s 11-strikeout effort against New Mexico (June 2) is tied for the fifth-most strikeouts in a UCLA postseason game by one pitcher. Vander Tuig has posted a 2.70 ERA in postseason games (through 23.1 innings over two years), the seventh-lowest mark in UCLA playoff history. CONNECT FOUR Adam Plutko tied former UCLA standout Trevor Bauer atop the school s all-time postseason wins list (4). Plutko has gone 4-0 in four career postseason starts during his freshman and sophomore years. Bauer went 4-0 in five postseason starts during his sophomore (2010) and junior (2011) seasons. As a freshman in 2011, Plutko held San Francisco to one hit in 7.2 scoreless innings in an elimination contest. As a sophomore in 2012, he went 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA in 23.0 innings (three starts), logging 21 strikeouts and seven walks. PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE Beau Amaral and Cody Regis have played in more postseason games than any Bruin in school history. Each player started all 24 postseason games during the Bruins 2010, 2011 and 2012 playoff runs. Jeff Gelalich ranks third on the school s all-time playoff games list, having competed in 23 postseason games. Amaral also concluded his career ranking first on the school s alltime postseason hits (33) and at-bats (99) lists. MULTIPLE APPEARANCES David Berg pitched in seven of UCLA s eight postseason games in 2012, tying the school record for most career pitching appearances. Berg s seven appearances in the 2012 postseason stands as the most appearances for any UCLA pitcher in one postseason. Dan Klein pitched in seven playoff games during UCLA s 2008 and 2010 postseason appearances. In 2012, Berg threw 13.2 scoreless innings, scattering five hits in relief. He ranks first all-time in UCLA s postseason ERA department (0.00), among pitchers with at least 12.0 innings. The right-hander logged 12 strikeouts and two walks while limiting the opposition to a.116 batting average. SIX OF SEVEN UCLA made its sixth postseason appearance in seven years in 2012, marking the first time that the Bruins have accomplished that feat in school history. Prior to that, UCLA s most successful postseason stretch spanned the 1992 through 1997 seasons, when UCLA advanced to the playoffs in four of six years. CWS PARTICIPANTS The Bruins 2010 team that advanced to the finals of the College World Series featured several freshman (now juniors) that earned considerable playing time in Omaha. Looking at the Bruins 2010 roster, 11 players from that season s team remained in 2012. Of those 11 ballplayers, six competed in the 2010 playoffs and just five played in that season s College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. TOP THREE FINISHES UCLA has finished among the top three in the Pac-12 Conference each of the last seven seasons (2006-2012). The Bruins are the only Pac-12 team to have finished in the top three each of the last seven years. Under John Savage, UCLA finished third from 2006 through 2009, before finishing second in 2010 and winning the confernece title in 2011 and 2012. Never before in school history has UCLA enjoyed a seven-year span with as many top finishes in the standings. MIDWEEK MASTERY UCLA concluded its regular-season schedule having gone 11-0 in all midweek (Tuesday) ballgames. The Bruins posted a perfect 9-0 record against Big West Conference foes in 2012. Serving as UCLA s midweek starting pitcher, Grant Watson went 6-0 with a 2.67 ERA in 11 starts. The freshman left-hander from Bakersfield, Calif., limited the opposition to a.250 batting average in that role in 54.0 innings. DID YOU KNOW? John Savage became UCLA s first head coach to lead the Bruins to the finals of the College World Series in 2010, guiding UCLA to a 51-17 record that year. He has been UCLA s only head coach to ever lead the program to three consecutive NCAA Regionals, doing so twice (2006-08 and 2010-12). UCLA s No. 2 national seed in this season s tournament was the program s highest-ever national seed. It marked the second time UCLA was awarded one of the tournament s eight national seeds (No. 6 in 2010). SAVAGE VS.
