NORISMAN TRIATHLON 2017 We are excited to announce our epic Triathlon Event hosted by Fil-Am Tri club and Optimum Care Therapy and Optimum Multisport. This is a Swim-Bike-Run Triathlon from Long Beach to Mt. Baldy. EVENT BACKGROUND: NORISMAN Triathlon is a hybrid long distance triathlon event that was originally founded by Fil-Am Tri club and Optimum Care Therapy & Optimum Multisport. This is a Swim-Bike-Run Triathlon from Long Beach (Sea Level) to Mt. Baldy. A challenging bike and run course with a peak elevation of 10,000 ft. MISSION: Our mission is to host an epic swim bike run event and generates funds for a charity organization. Every year the event host chooses a beneficiary where the event proceeds are donated to this charity. This year 2017, we have chosen Bantay Batay 163 as our charity funds recipient. All proceeds will go directly to their foundation. Baldy Ski Lift to Baldy Notch Restaurant (7,800 ft. elevation) OPTIONAL RUN: 11.5 miles, Sea to Summit (10,000 ft. elevation) DATE: Sunday, October 22 nd 2017 Event Start: 6:30am *Important Notice: NORISMAN Triathlon is a point to point course and is a selfsupported event. You will need vehicle support to transports you back from Baldy Ski Lift back to swim start. *ALL participants who completed the Sea to Mt. Baldy Summit and Sea to Baldy Notch distance will receive a wooden medal as well as Finisher s T shirt.
REGISTRATION: SOLO PARTICIPANT - $70.00 2 PERSON RELAY- $110.00 PATRON- $200.00 (Minimum) We are currently accepting a patron/sponsor. Become a Patron/Sponsor and receive an event T Shirt as well and event souvenir poster! You will also receive a FREE entry to participate a portion or complete the whole course. *If you wish to donate more than the entry fee, all proceeds will be donated to the charity organization Bantay Bata 163. * If you are not a Fil-Am Tri Club member and would like to have a club insurance coverage for this event, we recommend that you sign up as a member (one year membership is $35 starting October 1 st, 2017). This will allow you to have a general liability insurance coverage as a member participating in a Fil-Am Tri hosted event including NORISMAN Triathlon. (Participant Accident coverage is on file with the policyholder including Accident Medical Expense Coverage in the amount of $25,000 per person/per accident subject to a $250 deductible with other health insurance, $1,000 deductible without other health insurance. Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage is included with a $10,000 per person/per accident policy limit.) SOLO (Individual) PARTICIPANT S INFORMATION Solo participants will complete a 1.5 mile, 1 loop swim, bike 70 miles from Long Beach to Mt. Baldy via San Gabriel River Trail to Glendora Mountain to Ski Lift (6500ft.) and Run onto a dirt trail 2.5 mile from Ski Lift to Baldy Notch Restaurant (7800 ft.) out and back to finish at the Ski Lift parking lot. * Solo participants must designate a Sherpa/Team support to assist back to Long Beach after you finish at the Ski Lift. Sherpa/Team support may also assist their participant s gear storage and as a pacer. Again this is a point to point swim bike run and the organizers will NOT be providing transportation back to swim start. RELAY (2 PERSON TEAM) 2 Person Relay Team will complete a 1.5 mile 1 loop swim, bike 70 miles from Long Beach to Mt. Baldy via San Gabriel River Trail to Glendora Mountain to Ski Lift (6500ft.) and Run onto a dirt trail 2.5 mile from Ski Lift to Baldy Notch Restaurant (7800 ft.) and back. 2 person Relay Team will be permitted to switch with their teammate either at T1 and/or T2. The 2nd person may act as the Sherpa/Team support and assist with transportation, gear storage and as pacer. BIKE SWAP WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO BE FAIR TO OTHER ATHLETES. DRAFTING IS PROHIBITED FOR SAFETY.
OPTIONAL RUN (SEA TO MT. BALDY SUMMIT 11.5 MILES) Any participants (Relay team or Solo) who arrive at the Baldy Notch Ski Lodge Restaurant by 3 pm will be permitted to make an attempt to run to the peak of Mt. Baldy Summit (approx. 3 miles from the Baldy Notch Ski Lodge Restaurant). Please bring a headlamp and vest or jacket since the temperature may drop late in the afternoon. Once you have reached the Baldy Summit peak (10,000 ft.) you will check in with one of our stationed run volunteer before descending back down and the same route you came up and finish at the Ski Lift. SAFETY AND EVENT GUIDELINES *This is a course from Sea level (0ft) to the highest peak in Glendora Mountain (10k ft.) For your safety, please know your limits, you will be running in high altitude and your health is top priority. Swim: There will be a water safety marshal during the swim portion. Swim Marshal Team: 1-Canoe, 1-Kayak Bike: Volunteers will provide participants with electrolyte drinks, water, ice, gels, fruits, snack etc. on all aid stations #1-4. *** We will have a bike sweeper rover from bike out thru San Gabriel River Trail. They can assist in case of emergency and/or bike support. All participants are responsible for learning the bike course. If you are unfamiliar with the route please let us know prior to the event date. Run: There will be no medical support along the trail towards Mt. Baldy Notch. If you are in need of medical assistance, you may check-in at the Baldy Notch ski lodge restaurant to inform forest ranger. Participants can check in at aid station #5 (Baldy Notch) before heading back down to ski lift AND also at Mt. Baldy
Summit with one of our volunteer with a satellite phone if medical attention is needed. Again, Both of these run stations will have a satellite phone to call in case of medical emergency SCHEDULE OF EVENT: Event Set-up 5:45-6:15am. Bayshore Ave/54 th Place (By the basketball court/playground area) SWIM WARM UP 6:15am-6:30 am All Athletes will be body marked and will be assigned a number upon check in at 5:30am ATHLETE BRIEFING: 6:30-6:40 am SWIM MASS START TIME: 6:45 am SWIM CUT OFF TIME: 8:15 am (1 hour and 30 min.) BIKE CUT OFF TIME @ Ski Lift: By 4:00 pm NO EXCEPTIONS! POST EVENT DINNER/DRINKS AT BALDY RESTAURANT 6:30-8PM. ***Due to time change and to prevent athletes running in the dark, any participants who do not meet the bike cut off time at the Ski Lift by 4pm will NOT be permitted to run to Baldy Notch. NO EXCEPTIONS! TRANSITION AND AID STATIONS Transportation/Transition Bag- You will need to arrange your own transportation from swim start (Long Beach) to Mt Baldy. This is for both relay and solo participants. Please designate your Sherpa/Team support that can help bring your vehicle and transition bag to the finish line (Mt Baldy Ski Lift).
Athletes Gear and Special Needs Bag- The athlete s Sherpa/Team support will be responsible for all of their gears. Volunteers can help store the athlete s special needs bag and made available only at aid stations #1 (Lario Park) and aid station #3 (Baldy Village). AID STATIONS HOURS Aid Station #1, 2, 3, 4, 5: #1 Lario Park (9am-11am) #2 GMR Shack (10am-12pm) ***Only Ice, Water and Gatorade will be available on this station) #3 Mt Baldy Village (12pm-2pm) #4 Ski Lift (1-4pm) #5 Baldy Notch Restaurant (3pm-6pm) *The following items are available on the aid stations except: Water, ice, gels, gatorade, fruits, power bars, salt stick, soda and other snacks (Except Aid Station #2 GMR Shack). EVENT COURSE INFORMATION SWIM: 1.5 Mile Swim will start at the dock. Participants will start the swim at 6:45am (mass start) counter clockwise by making a right turn to the 1st U turn. They will loop around and head back to the 2nd U turn (2nd St Bathroom) while staying inside the buoy. After the 2nd U turn, they will finish the swim by heading back to the dock and exit to T1. Please stay inside the buoy line at all times. (See map below).
T1: Bikes will be set up along the playground area behind the basketball court by Ocean Blvd. and 54th Pl. Ave. ***For Relay and Solo: Your teammate or designated Sherpa/Team support will be in charge of putting away your wetsuit and transition bag. BIKE: Athletes will ride 70 miles starting from Bayshore to 2nd St. to Marina Dr. onto the San Gabriel River Trail to Sierra Madre to Glendora Mountain Road to Glendora Ridge Road to Baldy Village and final climb to Ski Lift parking lot. Please be advised the last 4.5 miles to the ski lift will be a very difficult climb with Grade(s) up to 15% in some sections. If you are unfamiliar with the bike course, please let us know. For your safety, be sure to take enough hydration and nutrition.
RUN-Athletes will start at the Ski Lift Parking lot and run up a very steep trail head (500 meters). At the end of that trail is a fire road which you will turn right to Baldy Notch Ski Lodge (approx. 2.5 miles away). The Baldy Notch will be your turnaround point (Aid Station #5) before heading back to down to finish the event at the ski lift with a total of 5 mile loop. RUN MAP COURSE Follow the YELLOW LINE on the map below DO NOT FOLLOW THE RED LINE. *For the safety of the athletes, they have the option of cutting the run short and turning around if necessary. We must warn everyone that you may experience altitude sickness. Event staff may decide to pull the athlete out of the run course or asked to turn around sooner if necessary. *The chair lift should be open on the event date. It runs up and down from Ski lift parking lot to Baldy Notch Restaurants and is available for athletes and spectators up to 6pm.
