Sport Information Guide 1. Competition Dates Volleyball competition for Asia Pacific Masters Games 2018 (APMG2018) offers competitions in both Beach and Indoor disciplines. The Beach discipline will be held before the Indoor discipline. The provisional Volleyball competition schedule for APMG2018 is as follows: 7/9 Fri Beach 8/9 Sat 9/9 Sun 10/9 Mon 11/9 Tue 12/9 Wed Indoor 0900-13/9 Thu 0900-14/9 Fri 0900-15/9 Sat 0900 - The Opening Ceremony is scheduled for the evening of Saturday 8 September 2018 with the Closing Ceremony on the evening of Saturday 15 September 2018. All dates and times are subject to change, pending final entries received. A detailed schedule for each age category will be developed throughout 2017 and early 2018. 1
2. Competition Format Participants can register and participate up to three events in total, either in one discipline (Beach or Indoor) or a combination of both disciplines. The events, divisions and age categories for Volleyball at APMG2018 are as follows: Discipline Event/ Division Age Categories Beach Pairs Open Men s: Women s: 30+, 35+, 40+, 45+, Mixed: Beach Fours Open Men s: Women s: 30+, 35+, 40+, 45+, Mixed: Indoor Open Men s / Women s / Mixed: 50+ 2.1. Beach Volleyball Beach Volleyball can be played in Pairs or Fours per team in an Open division in the identified age categories, for men's, women's and mixed teams. A maximum of three players for the pairs competition may be registered (a minimum of two players must be registered for the pairs). Further details regarding substitutions in each event is outlined in section 4.1. 2
A maximum of 6 players for the Fours competition may be registered (a minimum of four players must be registered for the Fours). Further details regarding substitutions in each event is outlined in section 4.1. The age of the youngest registered team member determines which age category the team will compete in and for the Games. The age is determined as at 31 December 2018. Participants that register for volleyball can participate in up to three events, either in one discipline (Beach or Indoor) or a combination of both disciplines. Players can choose the following competitions and age groups: Single Gender Pairs Single Gender Fours Mixed Pairs Mixed Fours For example: A 48 year old male is allowed to play in the 30+ Men's Pair and a 40+ Mixed Pair in Beach Volleyball during the Games, if he so wishes. 2.2. Indoor Volleyball For each team to be confirmed, a minimum of eight players per team need to be registered, with the jersey number from 1 to 20. However, a team is only permitted to have a maximum of 12 players registered on the registration form. In any mixed team, a minimum of four female players are required to be registered. There must be a minimum of two female players in court at any given time (regardless of whether the Libero is a female player or not). For example: A 56 year old female wishing to play for two Indoor teams could play: women s 50+ and mixed 45+. 2.3. Want to play Beach and Indoor Volleyball? As part of your registration you are able to play both Beach and Indoor Volleyball. Participants can register for volleyball and participate up to three events, either in one discipline (Beach or Indoor) or a combination of both disciplines. 3. Competition Details 4.1. Competition Rules The APMG2018 Volleyball event will be conducted in line with the competition rules of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), or as otherwise specified in this document, and will conform with any special requirements of the International Masters Games Association. Beach: In the Beach Pairs and Fours competitions, substitutions are not allowed during match play. Therefore substitutions can only be used between matches and not sets. If a player 4
is injured, a substitution is not permitted to replace the injured player during a match, e.g. in pairs competitions, only the two players on the roster are eligible for the entirety of the match. Likewise in the Fours competition, only the four players on the roster are eligible for the entirety of the match. Depending on the number of participating teams, matches in the preliminary rounds may be played best of 1 set only. Matches for semi-finals and finals for positions 3/4, and 1/2 will be played best of 3 sets. Indoor: The 6 substitutions rule will be used in Indoor Volleyball with a total of 6 substitutions for each set. Depending on the number of participating teams, matches in the preliminary rounds may be played best of 3 sets only. Matches for semi-finals and finals for positions 3/4, and 1/2 will be played best of 5 sets. The net height will be set at 2.43m for men and 2.24m for women. In selected age groups/divisions the net height may be reduced if there is consensus from teams in that grade. 4.2. Referees / Officials All matches will be officiated by qualified referees/officials appointed by the organizer. 4.3. Registration and Medals Where there are insufficient entries in an age category, the categories may be combined in order to conduct a viable competition. The awarding of medals will not be affected, that is, individual/teams will still be awarded medals in the age category in which they originally entered. The medals presentation ceremony will be held on the same day after the completion of an event. 4.4. Volleyball Technical Meeting One representative from each team is required to attend the Volleyball Technical Meeting prior to the commencement of the event. Further information will be confirmed closer to the start of the competition. 5
4.5. Technical Delegate FIVB has endorsed the appointment of MR. JOSEPH GERARD (MAS) to act in the role of Technical Delegate for the APMG2018 Volleyball competition. The Technical Delegate will oversee the implementation of all sport specific rules and requirements at the Games. 5. Equipment Game equipment will be provided for competition. Teams are advised to bring their own balls for training and warm up. Teams are advised to bring their own water bottles and strapping tape. 6. Sports Attire 6.1. Indoor All volleyball players, officials and volunteers must wear shoes with non-marking soles whilst on the competition area of the venue (field of play). All teams are required to wear appropriate uniforms. All players of the same team must wear team jerseys and shorts of the same colour and design (with the exception of the libero who must wear a jersey and/or shorts of contrasting colour). Team uniforms must be numbered (from 1-20). 6.2. Beach The FIVB restrictions on uniforms will not apply, however team members will be required to wear matching jerseys and shorts of the same colour.
