Nowitzki passed Elvin Hayes (27,313) for eighth place on the NBA s all-time scoring list with a 20-foot jumper at the 11:43 mark of the third quarter against the L.A. Lakers on 12/26/14 (the basket gave him six points for the game and 27,314 for his career). He passed Moses Malone (27,409) for seventh place on the all-time scoring list with a dagger 3-pointer at the 34.8-second mark of overtime at Brooklyn on 1/5/15 (the basket gave him 15 points for the game and 27,412 for his career). Last season, Nowitzki passed Oscar Robertson (26,710) for 10 th place on the NBA s all-time scoring list with a 19-foot jumper at the 11:46 mark of the fourth quarter at Utah on 4/8/14 (the basket gave him 18 points for the game and 26,711 for his career). Through 4/8/14, there had been 3,907 players who had appeared in an NBA game (and Nowitzki ranked 10 th in scoring among those 3,907). In addition to passing Robertson, Nowitzki also passed Jerry West (25,192), Reggie Miller (25,279), Kevin Garnett, Alex English (25,613), John Havlicek (26,395) and Dominique Wilkins (26,668) on the all-time scoring list in 2013-14. Kobe Bryant is the only active player with more career points than Nowitzki. CARLISLE ONE WIN SHY OF 600: Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle holds an all-time record of 599-412 (.592). He needs just one more win to become the 24 th coach in NBA history to record 600 career victories. Carlisle coached in his 1,000 th career game vs. Oklahoma City (12/28/14). He became the 27 th coach in NBA history to reach 1,000 games. He recorded his 500 th career win against Portland on 2/6/13, becoming the 28 th coach in league history to reach the milestone. EIGHT IN DOUBLE FIGURES THREE TIMES IN THE SAME SEASON: The Mavericks had eight players score in double figures three times this year: 11/15/14 versus Minnesota, 11/21/14 versus the L.A. Lakers and 1/14/15 at Denver. It s the first time in franchise history that Dallas has had at least eight players score in double digits three times in the same season. In fact, the only other times Dallas had at least eight players score in double figures twice in the same year was in 1985-86 and 1992-93. Monta Ellis (30), Dirk Nowitzki (15), J.J. Barea (14), Brandan Wright (13), Chandler Parsons (12), Tyson Chandler (12), Al-Farouq Aminu (10) and Richard Jefferson (10) all scored in double figures in Dallas 131-117 win over Minnesota on 11/15/14. In the Mavericks 140-106 blowout-win over the Lakers on 11/21/14, Nowitzki (23), Parsons (21), Ellis (20), Barea (16), Aminu (13), Brandan Wright (12), Jameer Nelson (10) and Jae Crowder (10) each recorded 10-plus points. Despite resting Rajon Rondo, Chandler and Nowitzki at Denver on 1/14/15, the Mavericks still finished with eight players in double figures (including all five reserves that played): Barea (17), Jefferson (16), Parsons (13), Devin Harris (13), Charlie Villanueva (11), Dwight Powell (11), Raymond Felton (10) and Aminu (10). Prior to the 2014-15 season, the last time the Mavericks had eight players score in double digits was 2/16/11 versus Sacramento. The franchise record for most players in double figures is nine (11/6/86 at Seattle and 4/23/87 vs. Seattle). RONDO STARS IN RETURN TO BOSTON: Rajon Rondo was impressive in his return to Boston on 1/2/15. Rondo tallied a season-high (game-high) 29 points (12-19 FGs, 5-7 3FGs) to go along with six rebounds, five assists and one steal in 35 minutes against the Celtics. The 29 points were the second-most ever scored by an ex-celtic in his first game against Boston (Danny Ainge scored 39 points for the Kings vs. Boston on 12/27/89). Rondo connected on a career-high five 3-pointers against his former team (he went 5-of-7 from deep). Rondo scored Dallas first 10 points of the game. He went a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in the first quarter and scored 15 points in the opening frame. It was the highest scoring first quarter of his career. Rondo made his first seven shots of the game and finished 12-of-19 (.632) from the floor on the night. His 29-point effort was his highest scoring game since 1/18/13 versus Chicago (30 points). Ellis, who logged 45 minutes against the Bulls, scored 28 of his 38 points after intermission. He forced overtime by hitting three clutch free throws with 1.2 seconds remaining that knotted the game at 108. Ellis also scored seven of Dallas 11 points in double-overtime, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 39.9 seconds left (that put the Mavericks up 130-129 and proved to be the game-winner). FOUR GAMES WITH 15-PLUS 3-POINTERS: The Mavericks have made at least 15 3-pointers in four games this year. It s just the second time in franchise history that the Mavericks have hit 15-plus triples four times in the same season (also: 1995-96). In fact, the 1995-96 campaign was the only other year that the Mavericks made at least 15 3-pointers three times in the same season. Dallas went 18-of-35 (.514) from deep in the win over the L.A. Lakers on 11/21/14, 15-of-30 (.500) from 3-point range in the double-overtime win at Chicago on 12/2/14, 18-of-40 (.450) from downtown in the loss at Memphis on 12/9/14 and 15-of-33 (.455) from long distance in the win at New York on 12/16/14. The Mavericks have never had five games with 15-plus treys in the same season. DIRK RECORDS 800TH CAREER 20-POINT GAME: With a 23-point effort against Golden State on 12/13/14, Dirk Nowitzki recorded his 800 th career 20-point game. He became one of just six players in NBA history with at least 800 career 20-point games (joining Karl Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O Neal). FOUR MAVS WITH 20-PLUS POINTS TWICE IN THE SAME SEASON: The Mavericks had four players score 20-or-more points in two games this season: 12/2/14 at Chicago and 12/10/14 versus New Orleans. Monta Ellis (38), Chandler Parsons (24), Dirk Nowitzki (22) and Devin Harris (20) each scored 20-plus points for the Mavericks in their 132-129 double-overtime win at Chicago on 12/2/14. It marked the first time since 1/25/11 versus the L.A. Clippers that Dallas had four players score 20-plus points in the same game. Just five games later (vs. New Orleans on 12/10/14), the Mavericks accomplished the feat again (and with the same four players). Ellis (26), Parsons (20), Nowitzki (20) and Harris (20) each scored 20-plus points for Dallas in a 112-107 win over the Pelicans. It marked the first time since 2007-08 that Dallas had four players score 20-or-more points twice in the same season. That year, Dallas accomplished the feat 11/8/07 at Golden State and 2/29/08 versus Sacramento. Ellis (11-of-19), Parsons (8-of-13), Harris (8-of-13) and Nowitzki (8-of-16) each made at least half of their field goal attempts in Dallas win over New Orleans on 12/10/14. It was the first time since 3/24/86 at Indiana that the Mavericks had four players score 20-plus points and make at least half of their field goal attempts in a regulation game (when Mark Aguirre, Rolando Blackman, Jay Vincent and Brad Davis each did it). MAVS TIE FRANCHISE RECORD FOR 3-POINTERS MADE IN A GAME TWICE THIS YEAR: The Mavericks went 18-of-35 (.514) from beyond the arc against the L.A. Lakers on 11/21/14 and 18-of-40 (.450) from deep at Memphis on 12/9/14, twice tying the franchise record for the most 3-pointers made in a regular-season game. The Mavericks hit 18 3-pointers in a game twice this year, after they did so just three times in the team s previous 34 seasons (Dallas went 18-of-37 from 3- point range at Denver on 2/29/96, 18-of-49 vs. New Jersey on 3/5/96 and 18-of-40 at Atlanta on 1/15/02). The 35 3-point attempts against the Lakers (11/21/14) were the fewest needed to tie the franchise mark. The Mavericks connected on 51.4 percent of their 35 3-point attempts against Los Angeles, the highest 3-point percentage Dallas has ever posted while attempting at least 30 triples in a regular-season game (the previous best was.486, 18-of-37, set at Denver on 2/29/96). J.J. Barea went a perfect 5-for-5 from deep against the Lakers. Monta Ellis (3), Chandler Parsons (2), Dirk Nowitzki (2), Jameer Nelson (2), Jae Crowder (2), Al-Farouq Aminu (1) and Richard Jefferson (1) combined for the other 13 treys against the Lakers. MONTA S GAME-WINNER: Mavericks guard Monta Ellis hit an 18-foot game-winning fadeaway jumper at the buzzer to give the Mavericks a 107-105 win over Milwaukee on 12/3/14. It marked the sixth time in his career that Ellis made a game-winning basket in the final 5 seconds of a game. It was also his fourth career buzzer-beater (and his second with the Mavericks). Ellis buzzer-beater came just one night after he led Dallas to a 132-129 double-overtime win at Chicago on 12/2/14 (he scored a game-high 38 points against the Bulls). He finished with 23 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter (8 in the final 1:34), to go along with a game-high seven assists and three steals in 36 minutes at Milwaukee on 12/3/14. Ellis made his first game-winning shot in the final 5 seconds of a contest since 12/7/13 at Portland (when he hit a 21-foot jumper at the buzzer to give the Mavericks a 108-106 victory over the Blazers). Ellis other game-winning baskets in the final 5 seconds include: 1/24/07 versus New Jersey (with the Warriors), 1/19/11 versus Indiana (Warriors), 2/22/12 at Phoenix (Warriors) and 2/27/13 at Houston (Bucks).
