Parents, friends, and relatives are welcomed and encouraged to watch the competition, however we ask that they do not disturb or coach the contestants. Each contestant will need to provide proof of insurance on their truck the day of tryouts. If you are borrowing a horse, you will need to provide proof that you have that horse available to you for the year. We also ask that you provide proof that your horse is in good health (from a practicing vet). MISS CHENEY RODEO INTERVIEW REQUIREMENTS Miss Cheney Rodeo 2017 **MANDATORY** Meeting A Meeting will be held in the Cheney Rodeo Building shortly after Dec 1 st. Interview Packet- Must be in my hands or Postmarked by December 1, 2016 Fee There will be a Non-refundable $25 fee Typed Resume Brief essay (one page maximum) on What it Means to be a Rodeo Queen Typed and signed application A minimum of two confidential letters of recommendation - Letters must be either mailed to PO Box 14, Cheney, WA 99004 (from the writer) or presented in a sealed envelope to ensure they are confidential. Letters must also be postmarked by December 1st. Letters CANNOT be e-mailed. Appearance& Attire will be judged throughout the entire competition. Auction- the auction sets the budget for Miss Cheney, the more $$ made the less out-of-pocket expense All ladies will work together to put on an auction fundraiser for the Royalty Budget- Your efforts in this WILL be considered in the decision process!! A list of businesses MUST be submitted for approval BEFORE any businesses are solicited. Certain businesses are not to be solicited, and we only want one lady to solicit each business.. (Contact Heidi at 559-5124, or sponsors@cheneyrodeo.com for further information) Ladies are to get as many auction items as they can for the fundraiser. (Please go to family/friends FIRST- then approved businesses) Ladies will help supply the dinner and dessert Ladies are asked to sell tickets to the action. (more bidders = higher bids) Ladies are asked to help with advertising for the auction. (Putting up flyers, participate in interviews, etc.) Portfolio/Scrapbook This is a chance for the judges to get to know you, show your achievements and goals. Include the components of your portfolio in the following order. Brief biography with a picture, as if you were Miss Cheney Rodeo 2017 (this should be in western attire with a hat) o If you are to win, this will be your bio that will be placed on the Cheney Rodeo Website and your autograph sheets Pictures and any extras you wish to include. (Make this fun, let the judges see who you are) Miss Cheney Rodeo 2017 - Interview Itinerary (Date TBD, times subject to change if necessary) Friday Time 4:00 PM: Setup for the auction will begin at the Bi-Mart Arena Building. Families and friends are welcome and encouraged to help. All auction items need to be brought at this time. 7:00 PM: The horsemanship aspect of the competition will begin at the Bi-Mart Arena. Ladies must have themselves and their horse completely ready and standing next to their horses in the center of the arena by 6:45. (Judges will check horses, tack and ask horsemanship questions at this time) Saturday 2:45pm: Contestants are asked to arrive at the Cheney Rodeo Building. From this point on contestants will stay with their chaperone. Guests are welcome in the rodeo building, but must not converse with contestants until Miss Cheney Rodeo 207 is crowned. 3:00 pm: The board will then begin interviewing contestants: Each interview will last approximately 20 minutes. During interviews ladies not being interviewed will help with auction setup. After all the interviews are completed the ladies will prepare for the auction. Ladies will be given a chance to change clothing at this time. 6:00 pm: Dinner and auction will begin. Shortly after dinner is served the girls will begin their speeches. Ladies are to help with whatever is needed during auction, and to visit with judges and other guests. Miss Cheney Rodeo 2017 will be announced and crowned at the end of the auction!! 3
MISS CHENEY RODEO EXPECTATIONS AND RULES Upon being chosen for the title of Miss Cheney Rodeo, the title holder becomes an official representative for the Cheney Rodeo and the Cheney Events Association. Therefore as a representative, she is under the responsibility to act, speak, dress, and show good horsemanship skills according to the esteem the title deserves anytime she is in the public eye. As such, she must strive to promote exceptional sportsmanship, high moral and ethical character, and humane treatment of animals. Queen Eligibility Be 17 years old by January 1, 2017, and no older than 24. Be single and never have been married or have had children. Must not become married or pregnant during her reign. Provide a horse, tack, and transportation to use the full reign. Have knowledge of the Cheney Rodeo, PRCA, and the sport of Rodeo. Behave in a ladylike manner and portray high moral standards whenever in public. Refrain from the use of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products. Complete all forms and requirements. Must not have been terminated for cause from any other reign as royalty or ambassador. Queen Expectations and Responsibilities The Queen must be on time at all functions. (to be early is to be on time, to be on time is late, and to be late is unacceptable) The Queen must report to her coordinator, and only her coordinator. The Queen must approve everything through the Queen Committee (Including attire, autograph sheets, sponsors, etc.) Queen Attire (the queen should be dressed in appropriate attire before arrival to the gate of the rodeo, parade, luncheon, meetings, etc.) o The Queen must wear sash and crown any time she is in her official capacity. o The Queen must wear Queen Hair and Makeup o The Queen should be fully dressed in western-style Pressed western shirt or blouse tucked in Pressed black or dyed western, Wrangler jeans or pants Belt and Buckle Polished Boots Western Hat Pressed Western dresses or a blouse and skirt combo Casual Blue jeans are not acceptable attire. The Queen must stay fully dressed in her queen attire during the entire rodeo, including dances that may follow. Queens under the age of 18 years must have an adult chaperone with them at all times. This chaperone must be an immediate family member over 21 years of age. The Queen must always have clean and polished tack. The Queen will not travel with her boyfriend or other male friends and while in her queen capacity, will not converse with a boyfriend. The Queen must always have her horse clean and well groomed. Queen duties must come first throughout her reign. Exceptions will be approved by the Queen committee. The Queen will not chew gum while in her official capacity. Queen will attend monthly rodeo committee meetings in Queen Attire, report to the queens committee and assist with other committees any way she is needed such as to help with advertising, parade entries, selling tickets, and making appearances. Queen will attend Cheney Rodeo work days, unless scheduled to be at a rodeo. Queen will attend at least one grand entry at all required rodeos, and will attend required parades and appearances. During required appearances and throughout the entire Cheney Rodeo weekend, the Queen must make herself available and visible to all rodeo members and spectators. This includes signing autograph sheets, answering questions, and helping as needed. All Queen Sponsors must be acquired through the channels already set up by the Advertising Committee, and must be approved by that committee. 4
Queen will assist and encourage participants of other parades and events she attends to participate in the Cheney Rodeo and Parade. She will be expected to distribute parade applications. The Queen is to be available to the Cheney Events Association and the Queens Committee throughout her entire reign to help in any area needed. The Queen must fulfill her duties as Miss Cheney until her reign is over. (Her reign begins on coronation 2017 and ends on coronation 2018.) Queen Funding and Reimbursement Policy The Queen will keep track of all mileage and expenses during her reign. The starting and ending point for mileage will be the Bi-Mart Arena. All receipts and mileage needs to be turned in monthly. Any monies given to the queen by advertisers or sponsors must be submitted to the Cheney Events Association. The queens committee must approve all funding/reimbursement. All requests must be typed up and given to the queen coordinator with receipts. (2 copies need to be turned in, 1 for the board and 1 for the coordinator.) Funding Requests and Reimbursements must be submitted monthly at the association meeting, late submissions will not be funded. (for example: all May expenses will be submitted at the June meeting) Funding and Reimbursements are never guaranteed. It is the responsibility of the queen to come up with the funds needed for the year. Hotels, camping, etc are never reimbursed. Mileage, if approved, will be funded at $0.55/mile (this amount is set by the IRS, and will change to reflect IRS changes.) The Cheney Events Association will furnish the use of a revolving crown, chaps, serape, breast collar and flowers. It will be the responsibility of the titleholder for proper care of these items during her reign. Lost or ruined items will be replaced or repaired at her expense. The Queen may be responsible for funding some or all of her transportation, clothing, equipment, stock maintenance, and décor. The Queen will plan a coronation/fundraiser to fund the past, present, and future growth and activities of the CEA Royalty program and the Cheney Rodeo. She will also help plan and attend other fundraisers throughout her reign. If a title holder is unable or refuses to carry out the expectations, duties and rules of this title she will be immediately removed. She will not be entitled to keep any items provided. If she refuses or is removed with cause she will repay the Cheney Events Association for all expenses. I release claims and rights to photographs and public relations materials involving me to the Cheney Events Association. Horsemanship Pattern: 1. Acknowledge Judges then extended jog along side of arena, stopping at center 2. From stop, begin lope at center of arena and lope left circle on left lead 3.
