STUDIO FOR THE LIVING ARTS DANCE COMPLEX Summer Ballet Intensive JULY 27- JULY 31 9am - 2 pm Ages 10+ We are currently accepting registration online for our summer ballet intensive which offers dedicated dancers a high level of instruction that includes a rigorous daily schedule of ballet technique, prepointe and pointe work, partnering, variations, stretch, conditioning, Pilates, and repertoire. Our Summer Intensive is led by our ballet faculty Elizabeth Avantaggio and Katrina Smedal along with special guest faculty Ian Tanzer, Josh Beaver, and additional guest faculty tba. What To Bring Girls - Water bottle and lunch. Black leotard and pink tights for the Friday Performance. For class, girls must wear a black or plain colored leotard and pink ballet tights; short dance skirts are acceptable on occasion. Pink ballet slippers and pointe shoes, if applicable. Hair must be pulled back into a bun. Black leotard and pink tights for the Friday Performance. Boys - Water bottle and lunch. White t-shirt and black pants for classes and the Friday Performance. FACULTY AND GUESTS ELIZABETH AVANTAGGIO Ballet, lyrical and modern instructor graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, with a B.F.A. in Ballet performance where she received a 4-year promising artist scholarship. Originally from New Jersey, Elizabeth has trained at Joffrey Ballet, NYC, and performed with The Shore Ballet Company and Performing Arts Ensemble of NJ. Her ballet repertory includes, Swan Lake, Coppelia, Raymonda and original works by Andrew Pap and Matthew Neenan of Pennsylvania Ballet. Elizabeth has taught at Westchester Dance Academy, South Jersey Performing Arts Group and has choreographed for numerous Highschools and Middle-schools in the NJ/NY area. As a company member of Portland Ballet, Elizabeth performed in Portland Dances! Capriccio, Dance for the Cure, Nutcracker, and Best of Broadway. Her local teaching credits include summer intensives for Atlantic Ballet Company and The Ballet school and numerous studios in Southern and Mid-coast Maine. Elizabeth is a faculty member at Studio for the Living Arts Dance Complex teaching ballet and pointe.
KATRINA SMEDAL Katrina Smedal received her early training with Ivy Forrest before continuing at the North Carolina School of the Arts with Nina Danilova, Melissa Hayden and Frank Smith. Ms. Smedal studied at several summer programs including American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School. In 2001 she was awarded the presidential scholarship for dance and joined the Festival Ballet of Providence, RI. She holds a B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Maine and is an ABT Certified teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT Teacher Training Intensive in levels Primary - 3. Ms. Smedal joined PBC in 2007 and has appeared in Portland Dances! Capriccio, Dance for the Cure, By Request, Carmina Burana, Best of Broadway, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Giselle and The Victorian Nutcracker as the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Snow Queen. In 2008 she joined the faculty of Portland School of Ballet. Katrina is a faculty member at Studio for the Living Arts Dance Complex teaching ballet and pointe.!
IAN TANZER Ian Talzer is currently a member of Sarasota Ballet Company. He formerly was on the TV series Breaking Pointe! This series gives a behind the scenes look into the professional ballet company Ballet West. We are looking forward to having him teach at Studio for the Living Arts Dance Complex over the Summer Ballet Intensive! Ian Tanzer, born in Cheney, Washington, started his career at 6 years old, attending The Ballet Arts Academy in Spokane, Washington trained by Peggy Goodner Tan. After being accepted into Boston Ballet s Pre-Professional Program at in 2008, Ian began his pre-professional career working under the direction of Margaret Tracey. His technique is strongly rooted in both classical and Balanchine traditions. Dancing with the Boston Ballet Company, Ian s repertoire included Pepita s La Bayadere, Mikko Nissinen s The Nutcracker, and George Balanchine s A Midsummer Night s Dream. After the conclusion of his professional training in Boston, Ian would later work for the Sacramento Ballet in their performance of Romeo and Juliet under Director Ron Cunningham. In 2011, Ian was accepted as a member of Ballet West II, where he worked as a second company member under the artistic direction of Adam Sklute and Christopher Ruud. Ian s career blossomed as he performed the work of William Christensen s Nutcracker, Anna Marie Holme s version of Pepita s Don Quixote, George Balanchine s Diamond, and Sir Frederick Ashton s Cinderella.
JOSH BEAVER Joshua Beaver from Thompsontown, Pennsylvania, his early training included his mother Cynthia Beaver s gymnastics studio, Williamsport Civic Ballet, Movement Laboratory, and American Ballet Theatre s Summer Intensive. Josh attended Boston Conservatory on full scholarship and graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in dance in 2011. While at the Conservatory he performed works by Limon, Tudor, Sokolow, and Nikolais. After graduation he joined Teatrul de Balet Sibiu, Romania, where he spent three seasons rising to first soloist/principal, and choreographer. He was featured as Paris in Rotaru s Romeo and Juliet, Puss in Boots in Sleeping Beauty, Barbanto in Le Corsaire, and principal in Gardner s Four Seaons. During this time he toured and performed in Germany, Austria, Sicily, Hungary, New Zealand, and various theaters in Romania. Last summer Josh joined Prague Chamber Ballet touring to Mexico and also winning 1st place in the Lila Lopez Contemporary dance competition in Saint Luis Potosi, Mexico.
