SQUARE DANCE ASSOCIATION Of GREEN COUNTRY JULY AUGUST 2017 NEWSLETTER George & Shirley Hazlett President The clubs are now following a reduced dancing schedule for the summer months. Be sure to check with each club representative before you schedule a visit. Our District sponsored two OSDF Festival Ticket activities during June. They were the Sapulpa Route 66 car show and the Collinsville Hogs and Rods Show. Hopefully your club was able to sell a good number of tickets. Also, the car was available for each club to schedule at a location of their choice. We know of a few locations that were scheduled. It is difficult to stand out in the hot sun to sell tickets but well worth the effort to help with your club finances. Good Selling. We had a district club visitation to Belles and Beaus on June 13 th. It was their eighth anniversary dance and picnic. They had a good turn out and an inspired dance. Other club visitations are scheduled for. Lake Keystone: September 15, 2017 Ramblers: October 21, 2017 (this is a change of date) Invitations to the OSDF Fall Round Up should be available around the end of August. Be sure to send you reservation in and make your hotel reservation early. Green Country is the sponsoring district for the round up. We would like to have a great representation from our district. If contacted to help, please accept the invitation. Greg and Shelly Rose, Green Country Vice-President, are working hard planning our Annual Festival to be held on November 11 th. They will need all dancers support to make this a great Festival. Mark your calendars and plan to attend. Consider inviting other dancers to this event. Due to illness, Carter and Jenni Bates have resigned as Green Country Secretary. We are looking for volunteers to accept the position. Also, we need one person to accept the delegate position to the Oklahoma Square Dance Federation, OSDF. Let us know if you are interested. CALLER S CORNER Where is the time going? It doesn t seem like it is time for another Green Country District News Article already. We saw some of the Green Country District Dancers at Cincinnati for the National Convention. We enjoyed the fellowship with them and all of the other Oklahoma Square Dancers. We also made a lot of new friends from all over the country and the world. We find that Square Dancers make for a very big family and lots of fellowship. Let s see if we can expand on this idea this month. The family and fellowship alone makes square dancing such a unique hobby. First what other hobby has a Yellow Rock? What other hobby creates the atmosphere of caring through helping new dancers to succeed when they are struggling at times. What other hobby has teams that work together not for first place but for Enjoyment and Fun? We as square dancers do a lot of things together besides square dance. We have fellowship through our activities such as raising money for community projects. We also do publicity dancing in nursing homes. We celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and sadness with fellow dancers just as our own families do. We are also in an exercise class at every dance. But this is something we really don t want to consider. We really are having so much fun exercise is not even mentioned just the Fun and Fellowship is what happens. We can go to a dance anywhere and when we square up we either renew old friendships or we make some brand new friends. Dancers dance with each other for approximately ten minutes and during this time they all become a family of friends. So in closing the only thing we suggest is to keep on dancing with all your family of square dancers. Sincerely, Cecil & Barbara Burton Jr.
Belles & Beaus News Well the calendar has just recently showed that Summer has officially begun, isn't it amazing how the calendar knows that? Apparently it does because the temperatures have been rising! Well at least we are not 119-123 like Phoenix and Needles CA. are? Someone said that is a dry heat, but someone else said but that is still hot!! I would agree!...well that is enough of that! We are now in our reduced dance mode for the next few months. We had our 8th Annual Picnic and Dance on June 13th; boy we had lots of good food, and a Great evening of fun and dancing! Five squares on the floor, and another square plus watching. Cecil had a collection of "Summertime fishing songs", now some of those songs have some, shall we say, interesting lyrics! I almost forgot to listen to the calls, while concentrating on the lyrics. Richie and Sharon Richardson were among our guest for the evening, we were glad to see them, and enjoyed the tip called by Richie...Thanks! We have been out selling tickets on the 1969 Mustang "Boss". We were at the Route 66 Blowout at Sapulpa, on the 3rd of June. The following weekend we were at the Rods and Hogs show in Collinsville. Both were a success, but we probably did considerably better at Collinsville. We also had a selling event at the Reasors in Catoosa on the 9th of June. We have also been handing out information about our upcoming lessons, and collecting contact information for interested individuals. We hope they will all show up for lessons in August. We will only have one dance in July, it will be a "Patriotic Themed Dance" in celebration of our nations Birthday! So wear your Red, White, and Blue and come join us for an evening of celebration in song and dance. That dance is on July 11th. August the 8th we will be having our "Open House Event" as we begin our Fall 2017 Mainstream Square Dance Lessons. If any of you know of others that would like to take lessons, and if a Tuesday Evening works for them...please refer them to us. They can call at 918.850.2395 or email ka5oug@juno.com and we will be happy to send them information or call with full information. Most of you know Cecil is the caller for Swinging Rebels in OKC as well as Belles and Beaus; our two clubs are going together to promote an Alaska Square Dance Cruise. The Cruise will be August 26- September 2, 2018. All are welcome to join us for this Cruise, more information will be forthcoming via email soon...stay tuned. Respectfully Submitted Charles and Jenean Herndon, Presidents 2017 BELLS & BEAUS WILL ONLY HAVE 1 DANCE IN JULY THE ( 11TH ) AND 1 DANCE IN AUGUST THE ( 8TH ) ENJOY YOUR SUMMER.
Lake Keystone Squares News NO NEWS, Be safe and have a great summer Greg and Shelley Lake Keystone Squares will NOT dance in July or August. Our First dance of the season will be September 15th, HAVE A GREAT SUMMER, WE WILL SEE YOU ON SEPTEMBER 15TH.
Green Country Ticket Sales To Date Thank you to each of the clubs for participating in the ticket campaign so far. We sold tickets as a District at Sapulpa Rt. 66 Blowout and at Collinsville Hogs N Rods car shows. Each club had a good turn out and did quite well on ticket sales. Each club asked for the car in addition to the times mentioned and had good participation then. According to what we know, 4,108 tickets were sold during the time we had the car here in Green Country. We were hoping for another time but at this point that is not going to happen. Should this change each club will be notified. Please continue to sell your tickets and work for growth of your clubs and the District for the benefit of Square Dancing. If Julia and I can help you in any way or if you need additional tickets, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the advancement of square dancing.
