Frankfort Sportsman Club BROKEN CLAYS Volume 7, Issue 1 Newsletter March, 2016 Special points of interest: Spring Trap League Spring 5-stand League Trap #2 Back on track Shooting at a golf course? Membership Info EXTRA! EXTRA! Welcome back to the Broken Clays Newsletter! With all the activity around the club, it s been difficult to continue writing, editing, and publishing a monthly newsletter on a regular basis. After recently being voted in as one of your new board members, I was asked what skill sets I can apply towards the club. Having a hobby interest in photography and some light web design work, I mentioned I could help maintain the clubs website. Along with that I was asked if I could publish the clubs monthly newsletter once again. Inside this issue: Message from club President Winter Weather Hours Policy Calendar of Events 4 Fore I mean Pull 5 Trap League Info 5 5-stand League Info 6 NASCAR Pit crew at FSC! 7 2 2 So here we are hopefully back on track. Not sure how this newsletter thing is going to go as I m not very much a writer but I m sure like anything else practice makes perfect. And you learn by doing. So over the next few months I hope to start rolling out more newsletters monthly filled with all the good details you once possibly read about in the past. I d like to include topics such as club activity, events, league information, new members, sportsman of the month, classified ads, game tutorials for beginners, etc. The newsletters will be available via the Frankfortsportsmanclub.com website each month. They will be posted for you to download and read. Wish me best of luck, and happy reading! Remember to renew your membership before the end of the month! It s that time of year again when your membership renews are due. Stop by the club as soon as possible to update your membership for the year. As a reminder your yearly dues are required before the month of February. Any payments made after March 1st a late fee of $25 will be charged. You should have received an e-mail a few months back with an attached renewal form. Simply bring in your payment, along with a printed copy of your renewal form to the club to update your membership. Copies of the renewal form are available at the club if you did not receive them via e-mail.

PAGE 2 BROKEN CLAYS VOLUME 7, ISSUE 1 Message from the club president As the New Year starts, I hope that all is well with all our members and their family. As always, we were open January 1st, for the Polar Bear Shoot. The weather was comfortable and the food was a plenty. I want to welcome all our new members and their families. I want to thank all our members that have renewed their dues before the late fee deadline. We are looking forward to future events at the club, and as we have stated before, we need you as members to help by volunteering your time, sweat, and knowledge. This is your club and it only works with your help. President, Thurlow Haskell If you didn t notice we have several new staff members working at the club. I like you to welcome our two new cashiers Colleen and Mel, as well as our two new Trap Associates, Nick and Michael. We also want to wish Josh Berndt good luck in his new job as a Diesel Mechanic, or as we have told him his big boy job. Josh did an excellent job as the lead trap associate, and he will be missed. New weather policy As we are currently in our winter hours for this time of year. We wanted to let you know that we have a new winter weather policy. As you may or may not know but during the winter months we have a rule if the feel like temp feel like is below 15 degrees the club will be closed for the evening. This is effective for both Wednesday and Friday evenings. Also decided was that since many of Feel like temp is below 15 degrees the club will be closed Wednesday and Friday Evenings. Sunday we will be open... you enjoy coming to the club just to hang out during the winter months, but are not interested in shooting during the cold months. The club will always be open on Sunday s regardless of feel like temp. The Director on Duty will determine how long the club will remain open on Sunday. If little to no shooters appear on Sunday afternoon it s their choice to close early to save on club expenses. So stop by to hang out with your fellow shooters on Sundays! Reminder no smoking inside the clubhouses It s been brought to our attention, due to some complains were made in regards to members smoking inside the clubhouses. As a reminder, and in compliance with Illinois state law, there is to be no smoking inside the buildings at the club, at any time. This includes both the main Clubhouse as well as the 5-stand / Skeet trailer. No smoking at the club Please do not smoke in either house at any time. This does not mean that your allowed to stand inside the 5- stand trailer, with the window open, sticking your head out the window and think it is okay. If you choose to smoke you must do so outside and the building. These facility are used by other club members as well as outside guests. Lets make it presentable to everybody. Thanks for your cooperation.

VOLUME 7, ISSUE 1 BROKEN CLAYS PAGE 3 Trap 2, Back on track For the last several months we've been having a problem with trap #2 occasionally not throwing correctly. Several board members got to together on a Saturday and worked to fix these issues. It was not that big of a deal as it only happened every so often. Although of recently it seemed like it s been getting worse. The machine was experiencing issues with throwing an illegal hard right. Also it was almost skimming the clay off the surface of the ground. It sure was quick surprise to shoot that one. Had to make sure I was on the Trap field, and not 5-stand field. Also the machine for quite some time has been randomly breaking clays when throwing doubles. Steve, Don, Dennis, Robert, and Mike working on Trap #2 Don and Steve took the machine apart replaced some limit sensors, the throwing arm, and the clay hold brush. Mike provided his knowledge and assistance. Dennis and Robert spent another Saturday afternoon looking at all the adjustment settings and aligned everything back to factory specs. Now we are pleased to announce that Trap #2 is back on track with throwing properly. So stop by and give it a shot! Event Calendar to appear at club Some members were requesting that an event calendar be posted at the club. This way members who do not receive e-mail would like to see what's happening around the club can see current club events. In addition to these new monthly news letters that will feature the upcoming events calendar. I will also be posting new calendars in the club. Calendar s will be posted in several areas around the club The calendar s will be posted in several areas around the clubhouse and 5-stand trailer. Hopefully this will keep everyone up to day with clubs happening events. If you have any other suggestions please feel free to let a director know your idea! Who knows you may see it in place next time you come to the club. Congratulations January top shot shooters for hitting 25 clays in a row. FORE!!!. I mean Pull! That s what you would be saying on a golf course of course to warn other players of an incoming ball. But not this time, it s to play with clays. Don Guinta and Jeff Hobson were recently invited to shoot skeet at the Hinsdale Golf Club. The Hinsdale Golf Club sets up three skeet fields between the 9th and 18th green just outside the clubhouse from the months of November through February. They both had a great experience shooting at this prestigious members only club. Jeff and Don were invited because they put on a Range Sets up three skeet fields between the 9th and 18th green Safety Officer Class for some of the employees of the golf club. There mission was to insure a safe shooting environment. Sounds like they had a one of a kind shooting experience. Just wondering myself what Iron they used, 7-1/2, 8 or a 9? Recently I was asked what clay target presentation games I enjoy the most. My answer, all of them! I believe they all bring challenges to the field. Trap, trains you on random clay targets, and reaction time Skeet forces you to practice your follow through swing. And 5-stand you learn to read variety of targets close and far, and learn to lead properly. They all have there unique challenges and overall skill set. They all bring challenges to the field Last season I had a blast at the club championship shooting, and competing in all the different clay presentation types. What do you find challenging about the clay presentation types. E-mail us and let us know! Feature your article in the Newsletter Do you have an interesting article that you would like to share with the rest of the members at FSC? We are looking for articles that you would like to share. VOLUME 7, ISSUE 1 BROKEN CLAYS PAGE 7 NASCAR at FSC! It s all fun in games until the wheel falls off! Ray was making his way around the trap fields on his Sprint Tractor. Racing around with the Wad Machine picking up all the spent wads in the field. All was going well. Until his wheel almost fell off! That s when the NASCAR pit crew at FSC sprung into action. Working on the Tractors tire, that has seemingly lost pressure. Causing the wheel to come off the rim and almost fall off. After properly removing the wheel Ray enjoying his NASCAR like Experience Pulling into the Pits to change out the full baskets. off the tractor, cleaning up the rim and tire A quick tire inflation and the wheel was back on. Ray continued making laps and finished with the checkered flag waving. Wads in all. Good job Ray!. In-between pit stops other members helped out by emptying the Wad Machines hoppers. And also assisted with cleaning up hulls that were thrown on the ground in the Skeet / 5-stand area after the Polish Shoot. Driver: Ray And Pit Crew: Dennis, Robert, Lou Challenging green 3 For those of you who like a long distance challenge. We have moved Green 3 of the 5-stand field across to the other side of 80th ave. Better put on your tightest choke and put on that rifle scope because that s one far distance to shoot and one heck of a lead. Well not really. Apparently with our high winds that we had this past weekend Green 3 shield decided to relocate itself to the other side of 80th ave. Our trap boys went over there to retrieve it with the truck. Who knows maybe this can be the future location for the new Long bird location. New Location of Green # 3 New to the club? Not sure what to shoot? Did you know we offer several types of shooting games. They all offer their own unique challenges. Some of the different clay presentations we offer are: Not sure what to shoot? Trap Doubles Wobbles 5-stand and Skeet Not sure how to play. Stay tuned into future issues of Broken clays where we will discuss how to shoot the variety of different games that we offer. Ready to start now? Ask on of your fellow members on how to shoot any of listed games. They will be glad to teach you how.
