We try to group the children by age once they get to their level sign. The skiers and snowboarders meet parallel to each other on the East side of the staging area above the yurts 8:30 Mandatory Meeting 9:15 Meet and great your team at your assigned level and location If you need to move a student, this is the time to do so

If you move a child make sure you move their lunch with them!!! 9:30 Get Moving! Lift Riders must stay in the West Village base area until 10:30 If students are late, it is the parent s responsibility to wait for your class at the bottom of the lift. Keep your eyes open for late students every time you lap through. Lunch - All The first day, you will have designated lunch areas and times with similar levels, this will allow you to move a student if necessary. Instructors are required to bring their own lunches. It is helpful to bring a backpack or large bag to carry your student s lunches in. Make sure all of your kid s skis/gear is organized and together when you go in for lunch to avoid confusion and missing gear. After the first week, you are free to eat wherever and whenever your team decides. Remember, you are responsible for cleaning up your team s lunch area. There is space to eat lunch in both yurts, downstairs at West Village Lodge, and in the Ripper Room (please avoid from 12-1pm). Note: Sunrise Lodge does not open until December 19 th! We have reserved tables downstairs at West Village Lodge from 11-1 for AMK lunches. o Please leave space for the All Day Mountain Camps 3:00 - All Allow your team enough time to return to the staging area by 3:00pm. Communicate with parents on the day s events and any special activities or changes to next week s lesson. Report any injuries or issues to parents and your supervisor. Write a report if necessary. Make sure both student and parent know your name! Have parents sign out their child on your class sheet Help with staging area tear down and cleaning of the yurts when your students are checked out. Communicate with the program supervisor any information concerning incidences that occurred in your class during the day. Class splits, blending classes & moving students: You will work closely with the coaches at your level or the one above or below to determine the most appropriate team. Remember that class size is equally as important as student compatibility. Never overload another coach. Mighty Mites, Mighty Riders & AMK, along with fun while learning, is also a social event for many of our local children. Just like in our own riding, they like to ride with their friends. When at all possible, try to keep friends together. Use the guidelines of age and ability to help make this determination. o Do not put a younger, lower level student into an older or more advanced group. You can however move an older, more advanced student into a younger, lower level group. Sometimes it s more important for friends to be together than to be in the correct age and level.

Always give students the opportunity to stay with his or her group. If you absolutely need to move a child, do so in a positive way. We never move a student down to a lower level. Instead we move students to fit a better team. If you move a child to a different team, move their lunch with them! Safety!! Safety is your first priority!! When you are coaching children in a multi week program, do not assume that they are familiar with the terrain and/or will be able remember the routine you have established. You need to be vigilant and attentive every day, the same as you would in any other program. Keep safety in mind on the last day as if it were the first day. Use the Responsibility Code as part of your everyday teaching. On most lifts, one point of the code is posted on the first several towers. Remember, 4 and 5 year olds are never allowed on the lift without an adult present. If there are more than 3 children in your group, ask if they can ride with another instructor or an adult in line. KNOW THE CODE. IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Always stay in control and be able to stop or avoid other people or objects. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them. You must not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible from above. Whenever starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill and yield to others. Always use devices to help prevent runaway equipment. Observe all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas. Season Pass OR Lift Ticket If one of your students forgets his or her seasons pass, their parent can pick up an I Forgot ticket at the Gateway ticket window. After that, the parent will need to purchase a day ticket. We are no longer able to provide Free tickets to our students who forget their seasons pass. Class Lists and Skills Log: Before you leave for the day, you MUST turn in a current and accurate class list with students first and last names. Also, you MUST complete the Mighty Mites, Riders & AMK Skills Log at the bottom of the class sheet. This paper work helps the program coordinators prepare for the following week and answer any parent questions that might arise during the week. It is helpful to include clothing descriptions of your students on your class lists as well in the event of a lost child. Hand your Class List to your supervisor in order to check out at the end of the day! Sign Out: Your class list is your sign out. Legible with first AND last names. Have parents sign their child out at the end of the day. THIS CLASS LIST PAPER WORK MUST BE COMPLETELY DONE BEFORE YOU LEAVE FOR THE DAY!!! Coach Absences: Your absence puts a formidable burden on the Mighty Mites, Riders and All Mountain Kids programs. Your students and parents are expecting to see YOU!! Any absences are discouraged. If you foresee an absence

it is crucial that you communicate this information at least two weeks ahead of time to your supervisor. You also must arrange for a substitute coach that is subject to approved by the program coordinators. The information concerning your absence and the substitute coach s name is then communicated to students and parents. DO NOT CALL OR TEXT YOUR SUPERVISORS ABOUT ABSENCES ANYMORE! There is a new attendance hotline that you need to call for absences. Call before 7am day of or day before! Call 541-693-0969 ext. 4 Coach Tardiness: DO NOT BE LATE!! Your lateness affects your fellow instructors, parents and most importantly your team!! You are required to attend the mandatory morning meeting in the yurt. If you cannot be consistently on time, you will not be allowed to coach these highly coveted programs. DO NOT BE LATE!! Mites, Riders & AMK Cell Phone Policy: You are allowed (and encouraged) to use your cell phone during Mites / AMK to communicate with parents and supervisors. Personal calls and texts are not allowed. It is a good idea and encouraged to give your phone number to parents so if they are running late they can communicate with you. Corral Setup on Schedule: If you are scheduled for corral set up before a Mites / AMK, you are responsible for setting the staging area fences, flags, and AMK / Mites signs. Lost Children: A CHILD IS LOST FROM YOUR CLASS: Remain calm; the most important thing is to find the child quickly. Immediately inform a manager and/or supervisor. Don t be afraid to report a lost child, we know it happens and we understand. When speaking about a lost child, use the code term Huckleberry Report the child s name, age, clothing, vest color and skiing ability. Give your location and where the child was last seen. Stay with the rest of your team and wait for instructions from your supervisor. Never leave your team to search for a child! Take a proactive approach to safety. YOU FIND A LOST CHILD: Keep the child with you. Call your supervisor. Chances are we already have been alerted by the child s instructor. If you are near the staging area, bring the child to a supervisor. Injuries: Call the Patrol dispatch number 541-693-0903 ext. 2911 Immediately report injuries to a supervisor. Again, don t be afraid to report. If you do not have a cell phone or don t have service on the mountain, immediately flag down another employee, ambassador, or guest to use their phone, or have them ask for patrol at the base.

The supervisor will determine who calls the parent. Stay with the child and cross skis above the site. Be sure to include your exact location, and type of injury or situation. DO NOT move the child if he complains of head, neck or back pain. Contact patrol even if the child feels fine. In cold weather, signs and symptoms of a concussion can manifest an hour after the injury. When ski patrol arrives, turn the child s care over to them and continue your lesson. Ask patrol which lodge they will be taking the child before you leave. Remember to remain calm and reassuring with both the injured student and your class. Instructor Comments form before you leave the mountain Always follow up with a parent at the end of the lesson whether the child was seen by patrol and released or the child has complained of an injury. Lift Riding: Discuss lift riding procedures outside of the lift line area. Have students watch guests load and make sure they do not have any questions. Discuss unloading and determine a meeting spot after they exit the chair. Have students sit back to the back of the chair; bottom to the bottom of the chair. Sit back and hold on to the side arm rest. If you choose to use the comfort bar make sure students know how to pull the bar down based on their size. You can ask the lift op to put the bar down if necessary for smaller students. Remember, 4 and 5 year olds are never allowed on the lift without an adult present. If there are more than 3 children in your group, ask if they can ride with another instructor or an adult in line. Instructors should ride last to ensure every student has loaded the lift safely. Lift Loading Arrangement: Lift Operator Student Student Coach Student Safety and fun are out number one priorities! If you re having a good time, your students will too!!
