Tokyo 1964 Hockey (M) Beijing 2008 Hockey (W) London 2012 Hockey (W) Rio 2016 Hockey (M) INTRODUCTION Hockey was included for the first time on the programme of the Games of the IV Olympiad in London in 1908. Removed from the 1912 programme, it was re-introduced for the Games in Antwerp in 1920, and removed again in 1924. Since the Games in Amsterdam in 1928, it has been on the programme of each edition. Women s hockey made its Olympic debut at the Games of the XXII Olympiad in Moscow in 1980. KEY STAGES Entry Removal 1908: Hockey made its debut on the Olympic programme at the Games of the IV Olympiad in London. 1912: Hockey was not on the programme of the Olympic Games in Stockholm but featured on the one of the next edition in Antwerp in 1920. 1921: At the Olympic Congress held in June in Lausanne, it was decided to take hockey off the Olympic programme. 1924: At the 23 rd IOC Session in Paris in June and July, the IOC drew up a list of optional sports. Hockey featured on this list. Women s inclusion 1974: At the 75 th IOC Session held in October in Vienna, the IOC Executive Board s proposal concerning the inclusion of women s hockey was approved. It was stated, however, that this sport would not be on the programme of the Games in Montreal in 1976. 1976: At the 78 th IOC Session held in July in Montreal, it was decided to include women s hockey on the programme of the Games in Moscow in 1980.
