AQUACULTURE Aquaculture refers to the farming of aquatic (freshwater or saltwater) organisms, such as fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. Aquaculture data are reported in live weight equivalent and value. Aquaculture products are generally not sold in auctions but directly from producers to processors, wholesalers or retailers. In Finland, 6% of aquaculture was produced in freshwater and 84% in sea and brackish water. Of the total volume produced (4.879 tonnes), 93% was rainbow trout. The majority of the remainder was other salmonids. Finnish aquaculture utilises mainly cages (89%), but also tanks and raceways (%). 47 37 40 4 43 38 48 49 49 3 3 4 3 3 3 5 007 008 009 00 0 0 03 04 05 Main commercial species farmed and % over total (05, million euro and.000 tonnes) TROUT OTHER SALMONIDS.
