NEWSLETTER NO 1: SEASON 2015: REGISTRATION DAY Welcome Welcome to all new and returning players and parents. Here we are again, another year. Please read carefully and remember the information provided in this newsletter. It will save a lot of questions later. Major Sponsor We are indeed fortunate to again be sponsored by the Shoalhaven Ex- Servicemen s Sports Club. We would like to thank the club for its generous sponsorship. While it is not compulsory we encourage all parents and senior players to become members of the club. The membership fee is quite small and the club is a great place to socialise. Registration 2015 In 2015 SDFA along with Shoalhaven United Football Club will be moving to digital registration. This means you will need to register and pay for your child (or yourself) online for the season. The new registration system is straightforward and on the back of this newsletter is a step by step instructional on how to digitally register. If you have any problems with the system please contact the appropriate registrar (refer above). Fees Fees must be paid at time of registration. Some leeway may be allowed for large families. All fees must be paid before the first competition game. There has been a small increase in fees from Football NSW but we have kept our fees the same as last 2014. U12 & U14 will play on Saturdays U16 on Wednesday night. Team Photos We will be arranging team photos again this year. We like all players to be in the team photos but there is no requirement to buy them or to have individual pictures taken. We do make a small amount of money from the photos but it is not done as a fundraiser we do it because we believe you want us to. Safety Parents should be aware that all players must have their own drink bottle and must not share. This is a directive from Football NSW Meningococcal disease can be transmitted by sharing drinks. All children should have a drink bottle - Glass bottles or glass containers of any type are not permitted on the grounds. Smoking is not permitted on sports grounds. These are Council rules please co-operate. Committee members do not have time to police these rules. Ground Controller We are required to have a responsible parent on the grounds during all games to monitor spectator behavior. (Home and away) A yellow vest is provided in all kit bags. All parents are expected to accept this responsibility during the season the team s ground control must wear the vest and identify themselves to the referee before the game. Training Balls All teams will be issued a set of training balls that may be distributed at the discretion of the team s coach either at the beginning or end of the season. Club Merchandise We have a range of club merchandise for sale at the canteen. Socks $10.00 Shorts $15.00 Club polo shirts for $35 Warm fleecy hooded jackets at $40 New Parents Our club is run by volunteers, nobody is paid for their work. Parents are needed to coach the teams. If parents do not coach the teams there will be no coach. Information will be provided and coaching courses will be run by our Association. If you are new to the club and have skills you think we can use please do not be shy, speak to any Committee member.

Cadet Referees All junior games are refereed by junior referees known as cadet referees. They are trained and examined the same as senior referees. This is much better than the old days when parents were required to referee (usually unwillingly & with little knowledge). Cadets can progress to become senior referees. We encourage our players to become cadet referees, cadets must be 11 years or turning 11 before 30 th June. Cadets are paid so it is a great way to earn some pocket money. It also teaches children to be disciplined and to take responsibility. Our Cadet referees co-ordinator is Sheena Anderson (Mobile: 0438 079 774) please contact Sheena if you are interested. It is essential that these youngsters are protected from abuse and criticism. They will make mistakes any problems should be brought to the attention of Sheena or an executive Committee member. will begin with a gala day at South Nowra to explain the concept. All coaches must complete the Grass roots coaching course. The concept of SSG is to give players more contact with the ball and encourage all players to be involved in the game. The system should also improve skills, as children are involved more. The number of players and size of the field will increase each year. SSGs was introduced for under 6s four years ago The new concept has worked well and been readily accepted by parents. It encourages participation and enjoyment with less emphasis on winning. The will be no competition tables or finals for any age below Under 12s. Club Meetings Club meetings are held on the second Monday each month at 7.30pm at The Shoalhaven Ex-Serviceman s Sports Club at Worrigee. All parents of junior players are welcome to attend. Remember this is your club the Committee needs input from parents to know how you want us to run the club. Please contact a Committee member to confirm meeting date. Small Sided Games (SSG) In Under 6s & 7s there will be four players on the field with 2 subs, still with unlimited interchange. The games are played on a smaller field with no goalkeepers and small collapsible goals. Some rules will be modified eg no throw-ins, pamphlets explaining Small Sided Games will be provided. The season

Frequently Asked Questions What Equipment do I need? The club provides team shirts. Parents need to provide shorts, socks, shin pads and a drink bottle. Team shirts must be kept together as a set & only worn for games. Shorts are available from Club Canteen & cost about $15 Socks are in the canteen $10 Who washes the shirts? Parents usually take turns to wash the whole kit. This ensures the shirts stay together and are not lost, players must not take individual shirts home. When do we play? For minis and boys up to U12, and girls up to U14 games are played on Saturday mornings and times vary. They commence at 8.30am and run through to 1.30 pm. Youth, Premier and U16 girls play on Wednesday nights. Can I be in the same team as my friends? We try to place minis in teams with their friends if possible, please tell the Mini or Junior Registrar when you register especially if transport is a problem. Teams in U12 age groups and older must be graded if we have more than one team. What do we do if it rains? Football is a winter sport and is played in all weather. Games are only postponed due to lightning or if grounds are waterlogged. An announcement is usually made on radio station 2ST (999 on the AM band) at 7am Saturday morning. A message will also be posted on the United Facebook page: *I played football for Shoalhaven United*. Postponed competition games are played on a Sunday within 2 weeks. Do we have to wear shin pads? Yes shin pads are compulsory for games and training. How do I become involved as a parent? Please speak to any Committee member, there are many jobs to be done. Who do we play against? The other clubs in the competition are Gerringong, Berry/Shoalhaven Heads, Bomaderry, Illaroo (North Nowra), Culburra, Callala, Huskisson, St Georges Basin, Sussex Inlet, Manyana, and Milton/Ulladulla. Where do we play? Home games are at Lyrebird Park. Away games can be anywhere from Gerringong to Ulladulla. Your coach has a map showing the location of all the grounds.
