A Little History Indiana State is currently in its 116th season of college basketball at the school. The Sycamores are 1,385-1,195 all-time on the hardwood. Indiana State s game at Oral Roberts last season was the historic 2,500th game in the history of the program. ABOUT THE COLLEGEINSIDER.COM POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT The CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament was established in 2009. The CIT was created because of the great number of programs that continued to receive no consideration for postseason play. In 1985 when the NCAA Tournament expanded to 64 teams, there were 282 Division I programs. Combined with the NIT, 96 teams participated in postseason basketball. Today the number of Division I programs has grown to nearly 350. The competitive balance is better than ever and yet the number of teams participating in the NCAA and NIT has increased by only 4. Bradley appeared in the finals of the 2009 CIT Tournament, but lost to Old Dominion while Missouri State won the 2010 CIT with a victory over Pacific. Sycamores In Postseason Play Indiana State is participating in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament for the first time in the history of the program. All-time the Sycamores own a 37-23 record in postseason tournaments. The Sycamores compiled a 16-4 record in the NAIB National Tournament, winning the 1950 National Championship. The Sycamores also own a 5-4 record in the NCAA Division I Championship, including an appearance in the 1979 National Championship Game against Michigan State, plus a win over Oklahoma in the 2000 Big Dance. The Sycamores fell to Syracuse in the second round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Additionally, the Sycamores are: 2-2 in National Intercollegiate Tournament; 8-6 in the NAIA National Tournament; 5-4 in the National College Division Tournament; 1-2 in the National Invitation Tournament and 0-1 in the College Basketball Invitational. Sycamores In Postseason Play For Third Consecutive Season With Indiana State s appearance in the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament, the Sycamores are making their third consecutive trip to postseason play. ISU played in the 2010 College Basketball Invitational as well as the 2011 NCAA Tournament. The last time the Sycamores reached postseason play for three consecutive seasons came in 1977-79 when Indiana State played in the 1977 & 1978 NIT as well as the 1979 NCAA Tournament. The last time Indiana State hosted a postseason game came on March 10, 1978 when the Sycamores hosted Illinois State in the first round of the NIT. Sycamore Closing In On Several Team Single-Season Records Indiana State has 100 blocked shots in 2011-12, which is just seven short of the record for most blocked shots in a season (107, set in the dream season of 1978-79). Additionally, the Sycamores have hit 196 3-point field goals and need only 17 more to tie the school record of 213, set in 2000-01 while they have 242011-12 Indiana State Basketball Notes

An Indiana State Win Over Robert Morris Would... Improve the Sycamores to 38-23 all-time in postseason play, including a mark of 1-1 under head coach Greg Lansing. Be the Sycamores first victory in a postseason tournament since a 70-68 overtime victory over Oklahoma in the 2001 NCAA Tournament. Be the Sycamores first homecourt victory in a postseason tournament since a 73-71 victory over Illinois State in the 1978 NIT. 571 3-point attempts are just 23 short of the 594 treys attempted in 2000-01. The Sycamores game on Tuesday night in the CIT is the 33rd of the season and will need to play two more in the postseason to tie the 35 games played by the 1949-50 squad, which won the NAIB National Championship. Jake Odum Leads The Sycamores With 17 Points Against Southern Illinois In The MVC Tournament Jake Odum tallied a team-high 17 points to lead Indiana State to a 66-51 victory over Southern Illinois in the opening round of the State Farm MVC Tournament. Odum went 6-of-12 from the field and was 5-of-6 from the free throw line. He added a team-high eight rebounds as well to go with two assists and four steals in 31 minutes of action. Dwayne Lathan added 15 points and five rebounds while Myles Walker posted 12 points and three rebounds. Sycamore Defense Key To Road Win Over Missouri State Indiana State s defense limited Missouri State to just 20-of-64 shooting from the field (31.3 percent), which is the best field goal percentage defense mark for the Sycamores this season. ISU allowed only 46 points to the Bears, marking their lowest offensive output in the four-year history of the JQH Arena and the 13 point margin of victory (59-46) tied for the largest win by an opponent in the building. Prior to the win over Missouri State, the Sycamores best defensive performance came on February 1 when they limited Drake on to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field (18-of-54). The effort at MSU also topped the 36 percent output the Sycamores put forth against Northern Iowa on January 25 to start a three-game winning streak. For the season, ISU is 10-2 when holding teams under a 42.1 field goal percentage and are 4-0 when the opposition connects on 18 field goals or less. Carl Richard One Of Six Sycamores All-Time To Record At Least 1,000 Points and 700 Senior Carl Richard pulled down four rebounds against Wichita State on March 2 to give him 716 for his career and is in seventh place all-time in the history of the Sycamore basketball program. Richard needs 16 more to catch George Pillow (1968-71) for sixth place. Additionally, Carl Richard scored nine points versus Illinois State on February 14 and now has 1,040 career points which makes him the 34th member of ISU s 1,000-point club. Richard is just the sixth Sycamore to record at least 1,000 career points and 700 career rebounds in his career. The five who have done it already are Larry Bird (2,850/1,247), Jerry Newsom (2,147, 953), Matt Renn (1,347/789), George Pillow (1,253/731) and Jim Cruse (1,049/771). Jake Odum Posts Career-High 34 Points Against Illinois State Indiana State sophomore Jake Odum tallied a career-high and team season-high 34 points against Illinois State on February 14 inside Hulman Center against Illinois State. Odum s 34 points are the fourthhighest single-game total in the Missouri Valley Conference this year and marks the first 30 point scoring performance by a Sycamore since Marico Stinson posted 37 against Drake in 2006. Adding in his seven rebounds and seven assists, Odum is the only player in the NCAA to go 34-7-7 in a game this year. He finished the game with an 8-of-12 mark from the field and was 17-of-21 from the free throw line. He is the first player to record at least 17 free throws and seven assists in the same game since North Dakota State s Ben Woodside did it in 2008 against Stephen F. Austin. His 17 free throws made are a season-best in the MVC and represent seventh-most ever made in a MVC contest. The 17 free throws made are the most since Northern Iowa s Adam Koch converted 18 against Missouri State in January of 2009. Odum s 21 attempts from the charity stripe is sixth-best in the MVC record book for a conference game and are the most since Drake s Lonnie Randolph attempted 24 (making 22) in 2005 against Northern Iowa. Indiana State Reaches 17 Regular Season Victories For Third Consecutive Season; First Time Since Larry Bird Era With its 59-46 victory over Missouri State on February 22, the Sycamores have now posted at least 17 regular season victories for the third consecutive season, which is the first time three Indiana State teams have reached that mark in succession since the 1976-77, 1977-78 & 1978-79 seasons. The Sycamores won 25 in 76-77, 19 in 77-78 and 26 in 78-79. Sycamores Set Three NCAA Records For 3-Point Shooting Against Southern Illinois Indiana State set a trio of NCAA records as part of its 78-68 home court victory on February 11 against Southern Illinois. The Sycamores were a perfect 12-of-12 from 3-point range, which is the most 3-point makes and attempts in a single-game without missing a shot ever amongst all levels of NCAA competition. ISU s 64.1 percent shooting mark (25-of-39) is its best overall shooting percentage in a game since 1992. Jordan Printy Break Out Of 3-Point Skid In A Big Way Against Southern Illinois & Illinois State Jordan Printy broke out of a 3-point shooting slump in a big way against Southern Illinois (Feb. 11) and Illinois State (Feb. 14) as he connected on all six of his 3-point attempts versus the Salukis and was 4-of-6 versus the Redbirds, and has hit 19 of his last 31 attempts from long range, including a 2-of-6 showing vs. Wichita State on March 2. Printy was mired in a 1-for-12 3-point skid as he went 0-of-2 against Drake and was 0-of-5 against Wichita State. He hit 1-of-5 at Bradley before breaking out of it with the 6-of-6 shooting performance against Southern Illinois, which is the best performance to date in the MVC and trails only three 7-of-7 performances nationally this season. His 18 points and six treys against SIU tied career highs set in 2010 at Missouri State. Jake Odum Nationally-Ranked In Assists and Steals While Near The Top Of The Valley In Both Indiana State sophomore guard Jake Odum is third in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 4.9 assists per game average. That mark is ranked 61st nationally. Odum recorded a career-high 12 assists against Fairfield as part of the Old Spice Classic, a number which ranks tied for fourth all-time at ISU in a single game. Odum is third in the MVC in steals per game with a 1.8 average, which ranks 81st nationally. Additionally, Odum s 4.5 assists per game average of his career is fifth-best in the history of the program while his 119 steals are ranked ninth-best in the Sycamore record books, while his 1.8 steals per game average ranks third. Sycamores Enjoy Three Game MVC Winning Streak For The Sixth Straight Season With Indiana State s 61-54 victory over Drake on February 1, the Sycamores enjoyed a three-game Missouri Valley Conference winning streak. ISU has now won at least three straight league games in each of the last six campaigns. Good Starter On The Battery Indiana State is 12-5 on the season when the Sycamores starting five outscores the opponents starting five. ISU s starters outscored the opponent s twice against Louisiana-Monroe and against Green Bay plus Texas Tech, Fairfield, Maryville, Evansville, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois (twice), Illinois State and Missouri State this season and won. ISU starters outscored Minnesota, Boise State, Missouri State, Wichita State and at Bradley, but fell to each. Under second-year head coach Greg Lansing, the Sycamores are 24-7 when the ISU starting five scores more than their opponent s counterparts. 63 Is The Magic Number The Sycamores win by the score of 66-51 vs. Southern Illinois on March 1 was ISU s 11th this season in which they have held an opponent to 63 points or less and earned the victory. ISU is now 11-1 this season when holding an opponent under that total. Under second-year head coach Greg Lansing, the Sycamores are 26-1 when allowing less than 63 points to the opposition (including a 12-0 mark when holding teams to 53 or less). The Sycamores are allowing 64.8 points per game this year, which ranks fifth best in the MVC. Sycamore Success Inside Hulman Center Under Greg Lansing The Sycamores are 21-6 (.777) inside Hulman Center under second-year head coach Greg Lansing. The Sycamores have won 12 of their last 15 home games. Additionally, the Sycamores have won 13 of their last 18 MVC games at home. Printy Is Second On Indiana State 3-Point List Indiana State junior Jordan Printy currently has 215 career 3-pointers and most recently passed Eddie Bird for second on the ISU all-time list. Printy is one of just 14 Sycamores in the history of the program to hit at least 100 3-point field goals in a career and is one of just two to post at least 200. Printy needs 68 more to tie Michael Menser for first on the ISU all-time 3-point list with 283. Additionally, Printy is the older brother of Iowa women s basketball sophomore Jaime Printy who was the 2010 Big Ten Freshman Of The Year. The Iowa women s basketball team received an at large bid into the NCAA Women s Basketball Tournament also last season made Jordan and Jaime the only brother/sister combo in the Big Dance in 2011. This season, Printy has made 62 treys, which is fifth-best for a single-season at ISU. Sycamores Down Nationally-Ranked Vanderbilt On The Road Indiana State s win over No. 25 Vanderbilt was its first over a nationally-ranked opponent since a 72-64 home court victory over No. 14 Butler on December 9, 2006. The win over Vanderbilt was the first for the Sycamores over a nationally-ranked road opponent since a 63-60 win over No. 15 Indiana in Assembly Hall on December 12, 1999. The win over Vanderbilt was also the first by a Sycamore team over a member of the Southeastern Conference since a 1984 home court victory over the Commodores. Triple-Double For Odum And Tournament Record To Boot Sycamore sophomore guard Jake Odum battled a foot injury while playing three games in four days at the 2011 Old Spice Classic. After two solid performances in the first two days of the event, Odum saved his best for last as he posted 10 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists against Fairfield on November 27. That tripledouble was the first by a Sycamore since Larry Bird posted one in 1979 versus Drake and the first by a member of the MVC in 14 seasons. Additionally, the 12 assists are an Old Spice Classic single-game record. His 12 assists is the first double digit assist total in his career and the first by a Sycamore since Michael Menser had 11 against Wichita State in 2001. Up Next The winner of Tuesday s night s game will advance to the next round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament at a time and date against an opponent to be announced. 442011-12 Indiana State Basketball Notes
