Junir Cllege/Cmmunity Cllege: athletes wh have cmpeted fr a junir cllege r cmmunity cllege team are ineligible t cmpete in thse sprts r related sprts during the same academic year. Frmer University Varsity athletes are eligible t participate, but a maximum f tw (2) may be n the same team in their similar r related sprt. Identificatin Cards All participants will be asked t present a valid UND ID, Wellness Center membership card, r State/Federal ID prir t playing in any Intramurals cntest. Individuals failing present a valid ID will nt be allwed t participate. Adding Players t Rster Players may be added t the rster at any time during the regular seasn prvided the new players meet all eligibility requirements. Only players that have played in at least ne regular seasn game are eligible t participate in the playffs. All players MUST be added t their team thrugh wellnessregistratin.und.edu befre they can participate. Being n the Pending Rster is nly acceptable fr the first week f cmpetitin. After the first game, all players must be n the Active Rster, r they will nt be able t participate. General The Intramural Participant Handbk will gvern all aspects f play nt cnsidered playing rules f the sprt. Participants are expected t fllw the Handbk rules f cnduct as well as the sprt-specific rules utlined belw. Current USA Hckey rules will be in effect, with the exceptins f thse listed n the fllwing pages. Grace Perid Game time is frfeit time! A frfeit r default will be declared if an individual r a team fails t have the minimum number f players required t start a game at the scheduled game time. BECAUSE OF LIMITED ICE TIME, HOCKEY GAMES MUST START ON TIME. THERE IS NO GRACE PERIOD. The minimum number f players fr each sprt will be listed n sprt rules. Default A default will be granted t each team that has players present t participate but des nt meet the minimum requirement f players t play. Each default will result in a lss fr that team. Defaulted games will nt be rescheduled. Teams may call the Intramurals ffice at least 3 hurs prir t their game if they are unable t make their game. This will be cnsidered a default. Hckey default rules are different than ther sprts: One default will result in that team being ineligible fr the playffs in their sprt, but left n the schedule. Tw defaults will result in that team being autmatically drpped frm league play and will nt be allwed t reenter the league. Frfeit A frfeit is given t a team if: N players are n site by game time. A team uses a player wh is ineligible r participates under an assumed name. Unsprtsmanlike cnduct Each frfeit will result in a lss fr that team. Frfeited games will nt be rescheduled. Hckey teams are NOT ALLOWED TO FORFEIT any games withut cnsequences. Any frfeit will result in the team being drpped frm the schedule fr the remainder f the regular seasn and playffs. Exceptins will ONLY be made with extenuating circumstances and prmpt ntificatin t the Intramural Crdinatr. Playffs Any team that des nt have a frfeit r tw defaults n their recrd, has a 3 r abve sprtsmanship rating, and has wn 2 r mre games during league play is eligible fr the pstseasn turnament (a draw cunts as a win). Sme exceptins may apply. During the playffs, a 1 r 0 sprtsmanship rating results in frfeiture f the game and all players n the team being suspended fr the first game f the next seasn, regardless f their new team r invlvement in the frfeited game. Players, Rsters, and Substitutins Teams will cnsist f 6 players (5 skaters and a galie). This is an Open League meaning there are n rules abut the number f male/female players. Rster limit is 18 skaters and 2 galies. Game can begin with 3 skaters. Individuals may be added t the rster at any time prir t the beginning f the playffs. All rsters will be frzen prir t the playffs fr all divisins. Players must have played at least ne game with the team during the regular seasn t be eligible fr the playff rster. Unlimited substitutins are allwed during the game. Each team, at the cnclusin f each game, will receive a sprtsmanship rating by that game s fficials. Any team receiving a 0 r 1 rating will be suspended frm further play until that team s captain has met with the Crdinatr f Intramurals, Supervisr, and suspending fficials. If yu have any questins, refer t the handbk fr further clarificatin. Teams will receive a letter infrming them f this vilatin and explaining their ptins. ALL team members, caches, and spectatrs are subject t ALL rules All players (even added after registratin) must sign the waiver t cmpete. Players may nly play fr ONE TEAM, perid. Teams with players fund t be playing n mre than ne team will be required t frfeit thse games with the illegal player. The first team yu PLAY fr is the team yu are cmmitted t fr the seasn. If yu have nt played fr a team, yu are allwed t transfer teams, with prper ntificatin t the Intramural staff. Galies are an exceptin t this rule, they may play galie fr as many teams as they like (as lng as intramural staff has been ntified) but may nly skate ut fr ne team. Intramural fficials are als an exceptin, as they are allwed t play fr tw teams, nt just ne. Equipment Required equipment (players): Helmet with full-face shield (If nn-cage shield, must be clear. N tinting r clring.) Helmets must be securely strapped at all times during play (grunds fr minr penalty if nt fllwed). Galie pants The Intramurals prgram has limited equipment available fr check ut prir t games. Players shuld make arrangements t prvide their wn equipment. Equipment available includes helmets with facemasks, shin pads, glves, and all required galie equipment Intramurals equipment will be checked ut n a first-cme, first-served basis A UND ID card r Wellness Center membership card must be prvided in exchange fr checking ut any f the intramural equipment. A sign ut sheet will als be present fr participants t sign ut equipment brrwed fr the scheduled cntest If the equipment is nt returned after the game, yu will be charged fr the replacement cst f the equipment nt returned. All teams are encuraged t play in matching jerseys. Matching jerseys make it easier fr the fficials t identify and separate the teams n the ice. If tw teams have the same clr jersey, it is the away team s bligatin t change jerseys, therefre it is recmmended t have tw different clred jerseys at all times. The Game Game Time 3 Fifteen (15) minute perids with a running clck. Tw thirty (30) secnd intermissins will be used fr intramural play. Each team will be given ne 30 secnd timeut per game. One mre time ut may be given in the playffs during the vertime perid. Officials time-uts: Injury - charged t fficial - player must leave the ice and be replaced. Injury with bleeding must leave the ice and may nt return until inspected by a supervisr, bleeding is stpped and wund is cvered. Bld-saked clthing must be remved. In all injury cases, the clck will be stpped Prtest - charged t fficial if the ruling is changed; charged t the team if the ruling is upheld. If ne team is ahead by 2 gals r less entering the last 2 minutes f the 3 rd perid and vertime, the clck will stp n all whistles. The clck will restart when the puck is put back int play. All penalties ccurring during stp time will be reduced t 2 minutes. If a team increases its lead t 3 gals during stpped time, the clck will resume run time. Overtime (regular seasn) All games ending in a tie will be settled with a 3 n 3 three (3) minute vertime perid (running clck). If the teams are still tied after the vertime perid, the teams will advance t a 3 player shtut. If the teams are still tied after the 3 player shtut, the teams will advance t a sudden death shtut. Every player must sht during the shtut befre a player gets t sht twice. *EXCEPTION: If a team has less players than their ppnent, nce the team with the smaller amunt f players cmpletes their shtut rtatin, the ppnent with the larger number f players may repeat players. Overtime (playffs) All games ending in a tie will be settled with a 3 n 3 five (5) minute sudden-death vertime perid (stp-time play). If still tied, regular seasn shtut rules apply. Mercy Rule If at any time during a game a team secures a lead f 10 gals the game will be halted with the team having the 10 gal lead declared the winner. If ice time still remains teams will be divided up and participate in Open Hckey withut fficials fr the remainder f the alltted time. Playing Rules Rule Prtest: Must be dne at time f incident. Putting the puck in play All general rules frm USA Hckey regarding face-ffs, autmatic icing, delayed ff sides, etc. will be enfrced. Faceffs after penalties will be cnducted in the ffending team s defensive zne. Rules fr which a face-ff is cnducted are as fllws: Playing the puck with the blade f the stick higher than the shulder. Delayed whistle with faceff in the defensive zne f ffending team. Carrying the puck with hand r frwarding the puck t a teammate with the hand in the ffensive zne. Face-ff utside the zne. Off sides and icing. Slap shts will be allwed in intramural play frm the knee r lwer. If abve the knee, the play will be blwn dead and the resulting faceff will be in the ffending team s zne (same as high sticking n the puck). Cntrlled Line Changes will be cnducted during play. The away team will have the first fur (4) secnds after play has been stpped t change their line. After fur secnds are up the lead fficial will hld his hand up indicating the away team s time is up and will nt be allwed t change any players after that. The hme team will have the last fur secnds t make any changes. At the cnclusin f the hme team s fur secnds the fficial will hld up his ther hand indicating the hme team has n mre time t change. After bth hands are up players have three (3) secnds t get t the face-ff circle and line up. Bth hands will be drpped after three secnds infrming the fficial cnducting the face-ff t blw their whistle and teams have three (3) secnds befre the puck is drpped t resume play. If either f the teams is nt lined up fr the face-ff at the cnclusin f thse three secnds, the puck will be drpped and play will cmmence. Scring A gal is made when the puck, entering frm the frnt, passes between the gal psts, belw the tp f the net and cmpletely crsses the gal line. A gal shall nt be allwed if: The puck is kicked, thrwn, carried r therwise deliberately directed int the gal by any means ther than a stick, r prpelling illegally with the stick, even if the puck bunds r deflects ff the persn r equipment r any defensive player int the net; The puck hits an fficial and ges directly int the net; The puck is between the gal keeper s pads r ldged in his equipment and is carried ver the gal line by an ppnent pushing the gal keeper; The attacking team cmmits a penalty, which assists in the making f a gal including t many men n the ice. Any member f the attacking team is in r skating thrugh the gal crease when the gal is made frm utside the crease, unless the galkeeper is utside the crease when the play is made r the attacking player has been pushed int the crease by a defensive player. NOTE 4 Any player that is ejected frm a game must meet with the Crdinatr f Rec Sprts and the Hckey Supervisr befre returning t play. NOTE 5 Duble minrs will be tw (2) 2:30 penalties fr a ttal f five (5) minutes. This is nt t be cnfused with a majr penalty. If the ppsing team scres within the first 2:30, the penalty will expire but the team will remain shrthanded fr the remainder f the time left n the secnd 2:30 infractin unless the ppsing team is t scre again befre the time expires. The team will nly return t full strength if the time runs ut n the clck r the ppsing team scres tw (2) gals. NOTE 6 3 n 3 play If a team is shrthanded and takes anther penalty, that player ges t the bx, but their penalty time wn t start until the ther penalty expires. (Never play with less than 4 players meaning 3 skaters plus the galie) If a team can t serve the penalty withut ging belw 3 skaters, a penalty sht is awarded t the ther team. A. Penalty Infrmatin Penalties will be called n a delayed basis. If a team scres n a delayed minr penalty, the delayed penalty shall be waived. (It will still be recrded by the screkeeper.) If a gal is scred while n the pwer play, the shrthanded team s penalty shall expire upn the gal (with the exceptin f majr penalties). Cincidental minrs will result in 5 n 5 play. B. Penalty Sht A penalty sht is awarded when: A stick r ther equipment is thrwn t stp a reasnable scring pprtunity. A defending player ther than the galie traps r cvers the puck in the crease. A player eliminates a scring chance by cmmitting a penalty frm behind r the side f a player clearly ahead f them where the ffensive player has n ther defenders between them and the net. Nte 7 3 n 3 Overtime Penalties during vertime will be adjusted t reflect the situatin in the game, but at n time will a team have fewer than three (3) skaters n the ice during the vertime perid. If a team enters the vertime perid n a pwer play, manpwer wuld be adjusted frm 5 n 4 at the end f regulatin t 4 n 3 at the start f vertime. If a minr penalty is assessed during vertime, the teams will play 4 n 3. If a secnd minr penalty is assessed t the same team during vertime, the teams will play 5 n 3. When a penalty ends, the teams play 4 n 4 r 5 n 5 until the next whistle. NOTE: If a player is penalized and that player s team scres a gal n the play, n penalty sht is awarded. If an infractin ccurs which calls fr a minr penalty, the minr penalty is nt served. Hwever, if the infractin shuld call fr a majr r miscnduct penalty, such penalties shall be served. Miscellaneus All fficials calls are final! The screkeeper s recrd is the fficial recrd. Screkeepers will be respnsible fr keeping scre, penalties, and timeuts. Fans are nt allwed behind team benches, in the lcker rms, r in the dwnstairs f the main sheet f ice. -Any cach n the bench (limit tw per team) must have a helmet. N pp, chew r seeds are allwed. Teams must clean bth the bench area and their lcker rms after each game. If a team s area is left a mess, this will be reflected in their sprtsmanship rating. After each game please try t leave as quickly as pssible s that the next teams can get ready. The team listed first will be cnsidered the hme team and has clr preference, and will have last change.
