Spring 2018 To All Manager/Coach Applicants: Thank you for your interest in managing a Novato South Little League team for the 2018 season! We appreciate your willingness to volunteer, and we thank you for taking the time to complete the Manager application necessary for the upcoming season. To be considered for a 2018 NSLL manager position, please submit the following completed forms and documentation that make up the application. These are required for all applicants regardless of the level of play (Tee-Ball through Majors) and regardless of previous manager or coach positions held within NSLL. A photocopy of your driver s license is required to complete the background check per Little League policy. For the safety and well being of our players, volunteers are not allowed to manage or coach without a background check. Item #5 below is optional (see note). Forms to be completed & returned: 1. Please note that in the event you are not selected as a Manager, rules imposed by Little League headquarters in Williamsport specifically prohibit NSLL from providing any reason why an applicant has not been selected. NSLL s success is based in large measure on the strength of its managers. The heart of Little League is what happens between the manager and each player. You will be a teacher and role model. You will need to be sensitive to the mental and physical limitations of children of Little League age. The game is a vehicle of learning and enjoyment for every player entrusted to your care, and is not an end in itself. To accomplish this, you must: Share our goal of maintaining a positive environment for your players and parents. Make sure your coaches do the same. Attend mandatory training sessions (failure to attend training may result in your disqualification to manage a team in future years). Majors and AAA manager applicants will be vetted by a Managers Committee, which will conduct a brief interview and contact your references. You will need to make yourself available. Applicants for all divisions will be reviewed by the President and must be approved by the Board. BY SUBMITTING THIS MANAGER APPLICATION, YOU INDICATE YOUR AGREEMENT WITH THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS.

Novato South Little League MANAGERS /COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT 1. I will enthusiastically support and practice the Good Sportsmanship and Positive Coaching philosophies of Novato South Little League. 2. I will be reasonable in my demands on a young player s time, energy, enthusiasm and performance on the field. 3. I will ensure that my players baseball experience is one of fun and enjoyment (winning is only part of it). 4. I will remember that children participate to have fun, and that the game is for youths, not adults. 5. I will attend league meetings and participate in league functions, i.e. Opening Day Parade, field work days, picture day, clinics, and manager/coach meetings. 6. I will attend all league or district required coaching and safety clinics in order to learn more about the game of baseball, and how to correctly teach young players the proper way to play the game. 7. I will learn and abide by the league rules, baseball rules, policies, and regulations both on the national and local levels. 8. I will work with all League personnel to enhance our program, and make it a positive experience for the youth of Novato. 9. I will spend the time necessary with my team at practices and games. 10. I will develop team respect for the ability of opponents, and for the judgment of umpires and opposing coaches. 11. I will be a positive role model for all players and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice or other sporting event. 12. I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront other coaches at the game field. I understand that children need a coach they can respect. 13. I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting; refusal to shake hands; or use of profane language or gestures. 14. By example and deed, I will maintain and teach all players and parents fair play, sportsmanship, team play, and respect for opponents and umpires. 15. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well being of the athletes. 16. I will follow the advice of a physician when determining when an injured child is ready to play. 17. I will teach my players to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence. 18. I will require that my players treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, or ability. 19. I will teach my players that doing one s best is more important than winning, so that my players will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance and that participating and trying, to the best of their abilities, is the true reward of the contest. 20. I will praise my players for competing fairly and trying hard, and make them feel like a winner every time. I will be generous with my praise when it is deserved. 21. I will never ridicule or yell at my players for making a mistake or losing a competition. 22. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my players over winning. I will also de-emphasize competition in the lower age groups. 23. I will check my team s equipment to ensure that it meets safety standards and is appropriate for the age and ability of my players. 24. I understand that in my position as an adult role model to the youth of our community, the public use of bad language, alcoholic beverages, and smoking is not acceptable in my capacities connected with the Novato South Little League, and I will refrain from their use at all league events. I understand the conditions listed above and agree that I will comply with them. Failure to comply with the Novato South Little League Managers /Coaches Code of Conduct may result in being called in front of the Board of Directors, and possible suspension from participating in games and league functions. Child abuse is present in youth sports. It may take the form of abusive sexual, physical or verbal behavior, and it may also be evident by the neglect of a child s needs. Any form of child abuse is unacceptable. Managers and coaches are not allowed to contact any eligible player prior to the Minor or Major League Draft nor have any influence on the draft process. Violations will result in removal from your position as manager/coach. If accepted for a manager/coaching position, I hereby agree to abide by the Novato South Little League philosophies, the Managers /Coaches Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations as set forth by the Novato South Little League Board.
