Podium presentation of medals will be conducted at the conclusion of each division. Grand Champion Belts will be presented to the Overall Winner of the Men & Women Black Belt Divisions PLEASE NOTE: Sport Jujitsu is the name used to describe a particular fighting format and set of rules that allows ALL Martial Artists to compete together without favoring any one style or system. This set of rules encompasses all ranges of combat and sport. i.e. Punch, kick, throw, takedown, grapple and submission. Therefore, a competitor s Experience level is determined by the TOTAL length of time training in any/all martial art(s), not just for sport jujitsu competition. Remember that Sport Jujitsu is a set of rules, not a martial arts system. To maintain the integrity of the sport and the USSJA, misrepresentation of training will result in the violator being banned from participation in future USSJA events. The following is a brief overview of the USSJA Sport Jujitsu competition rules. Safety Equipment & Attire USSJA and ISJA approved sparring gloves (must cover the fingers and thumbs), safety-kicks/boots (must cover the top of the foot/toes, sides and back of the foot), and mouth guards are mandatory in all divisions. A groin protector must be worn in all male divisions. Head gear is mandatory for all divisions ages 16 years old and under. Although head gear is not mandatory in the adult (18 years +) divisions it is highly recommended for personal safety. No rough, torn, or loose equipment will be permitted. No protective gear shall be allowed that contain any metal or hard plastic. Competitors must wear a traditional (Japanese style) martial arts gi with (the appropriate color earned) belt must be worn with sleeves being no more than one fist distance from the wrist. If a competitors uniform becomes bloodied or torn in a manner to affect the out-come of the match you will be asked to replace it immediately or forfeit the match. Absolutely no tee shirts, shorts, or shoes of any kind will be permitted. Sport Jujitsu Gloves Boots/kicks or similar style Sparring gloves covering fingers/ thumbs Traditional Karate uniform with appropriate color belt.

Adult Black Belt & Advanced Divisions Each match will consist of two 2-minute rounds with a 30-second break between rounds. There will be two time keepers, one to time the duration of each round and one will keep time for the 30 second ground fighting. Score will be kept with the use of tally counters by three side judges. The center referee will be in charge of controlling the match. When fighters are in a standing grappling (clinch) position they have 5 seconds to execute a throw or takedown before they are separated by the center referee. Once fighters are in a grappling situation with both hands on, there is no striking. If only one hand is on, then fighters are allowed one Strike (being a punch or kick). If a fighter has no hands on then he/she is allowed multiple strikes to the opponent attempting the throw down. Once a fighter has taken his/her opponent down they will be given an additional 30 seconds to execute a submission hold (choke, arm bar, etc.) before they are separated and returned to their feet to resume fighting. When a fighter is taken to the mat, his/her opponent has 3 seconds to score with one punch (the fighter taken down can also score from with one punch) to a legal target areas of the body while on the ground. Black Belt Divisions consist of the most elite competitors and are held to a higher standard. Therefore, a submission will constitute an automatic WIN and end the match. In the event a competitor is in jeopardy of injury and is either unable or unwilling to submit, the center referee will intervene and call the match. This ruling is for the Black Belt Divisions ONLY (18 years old and up.). Points will be awarded for crisp clean techniques to the body and controlled techniques to the legal target areas of the head. If there is a draw at the end of two rounds an additional round will be fought. If it is still a draw at the completion of the third round, each competitor s points will be tallied and the individual with the most accumulated points will be declared the winner. Judges award points as follows: 1 point for a strike to the body (hand or foot) 1 point for controlled hand strikes to the head 1 point for Takedown 2 points for a controlled kick to the head 2 points for a half throw (one foot leaves the mat) 2 points for Flying Scissors 2 points for Controlled Front/Top Mount (Excluding Black Belt Divisions) 3 points for a full throw (both feet leave the mat) 4 points for a submission by referee intervention (All divisions 12 years and up) Submission by tapping out or referee intervention is an automatic win in Black Belt Divisions ONLY.

Illegal Techniques {Fouls must be determined by a minimum of three judges} No striking to the face mask area (nose and eyes), groin, spine, nor against any joint. No finger locks, no neckcranks, no leg-kicks, no knee strikes, no elbow strikes or head butts. Leg kicks to the outer thigh are legal in Black Belt Divisions ONLY. Punches to legal target areas of the body while on the ground during grappling are also legal in Black Belt Divisions ONLY (18 years old and up. No points will be awarded for these techniques but they can be strategically used to set up or escape). Fighters will be warned only once for any infraction. On the second warning two points will be given to the opponent. Third warning is automatic disqualification. If a fighter is running outside the ring simply to avoid engaging with the opponent, one warning will be given. On the second warning two points will be given to the opponent. The center referee will then return the fighters to the center of the ring by the referee to resume fighting from a standing grapple (clinch) position. The third warning is automatic disqualification. Adult Intermediate, Novice and Under 17 Years Old Divisions Similar to above except: Each match will consist of two 1-minute rounds with a 30-second break between rounds. There will be two time keepers, one to time duration of each round and one will keep time for the 15 second ground fighting. Score will be kept with the use of tally counters by three side judges. The center referee will be in charge of controlling the match. When fighters are in a standing grappling (clinch) position they have 5 seconds to execute a throw or takedown before they are separated by the center referee. Once a fighter has taken his/her opponent down they will be given an additional 15 seconds to execute a submission hold (choke, arm bar, etc.) If no submission is obtained, competitors will be separated and returned to their feet to resume fighting. NO SUBMISSIONS in any division under 12 years old. Points are awarded for holding a full mount position in all divisions under Black Belt. Top or reverse mount must be held for 5 seconds, displaying and maintaining full control, with either knees on the ground or on each side of the competitor. Once achieved, two (2) points are awarded. Black Belt competitors do not receive points for holding full mount. In case of a draw at the end of two rounds, an additional round will be fought. If it is still a draw, most accumulated points will determine the winner. Points will be awarded for crisp clean techniques to the body and controlled techniques to the legal target areas of the head. (Absolutely No Face Contact of any form in any division) Only ONE sensei or coach from each team or school is allowed ringside. Unsportsmanlike conduct by competitors, coaches or sensei will result in immediate disqualification with absolutely NO exceptions.
