WHAT IS SELECT SOCCER? Select soccer offers a place for players that are ready for more advanced development and competition based on their current skill level, knowledge and understanding of the game, aptitude, drive, and passion for soccer In addition to advanced skill level, it requires a deeper commitment of time and money than recreational soccer It needs to be a commitment that is discussed between parents and children and an active commitment made by all parties Commitment to a team is for a full calendar year, unlike recreational soccer which is one season at a time Minimum age for competitive soccer is 10 years old (U11/2007 Birth Year), regardless of whether your child played U10 this year Choosing the right club: What is the philosophy behind the club? What are the goals & directions for the specific team you are looking at? Does the club have control over its practice facilities? Will they be accessible weekly and in the off season? Is the club non-profit? How much are they charging and what does it specifically include (and EXCLUDE)? Does the club have a strong board backing it? Are they members of North Texas State Soccer Association? How much coaching turnover do they have for a team that stays together? Choosing the right coach: Professionalism How is their presentation, punctuality, appearance, conduct, discipline? Experience How much experience and training do they have coaching? What licenses? Enjoyment Does the coach enjoy coaching or is it a job? Communication Are they consistent, frequent and responsive? Employment status - Full time or part time coach? Paid or unpaid? Extra skills Do they offer extra GK skills, coaches & team education 2
