A unique gameday brought to you by Pepsi. JASON GARRETT (24-24 3rd Year, 29-27 overall) Jason Garrett was named the eighth head coach in Dallas Cowboys history on January 5, 2011. Garrett became the first former Dallas Cowboys player to become the team s head coach. As a backup quarterback during his playing career in Dallas, he started nine-of-23 games played and was a member of teams that won six division titles and three Super Bowl championships. Garrett was elevated to the Cowboys top job after taking over as the team s interim head coach at the midway through 2010. He guided the club to a 5-3 mark to finish the season after the team started 1-7. During his time as the interim head coach, three of Dallas wins were against teams that posted a 10-win season, while the three losses were decided by a combined total of seven points. He led Dallas to an 8-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and an NFC East Division title in his first three full seasons as head coach (2011, 2012 and 2013). Since the 2007 season, Garrett has been the Cowboys offensive coordinator, and in 2008, he was assigned the additional duties of being the club s assistant head coach. Under Garrett, the Dallas offense has reached high levels of productivity in several categories, and the unit has finished among the NFL s top-10 in total offense five times: 2013 (10th), 2012 (sixth), 2010 (10th), 2009 (2nd), and 2007 (2nd). From the start of the 2007 season, the club has averaged 24.6 points-pergame and 366.4 total yards-per-outing. The team has set singleseason records in a handful of categories, including cumulative numbers for gross passing yards (29,107) and total points (2,756) that represent the best totals over a seven-year span in the history of the organization while the club s 41,041 total net yards are second. Garrett returned to Dallas in 2007 as the offensive coordinator. He entered the coaching profession as the quarterbacks coach for two seasons (2005-06) for Nick Saban s first Miami Dolphins club. After claiming a win in the previous two openers, Dallas will look to make it three consecutive opening wins for the second time in the last eight years, matching the 2007-09 streak. Dallas enters 2014 with the league s best all-time opening-day win percentage (.676), ahead of Denver (.642), Chicago (.607), Houston (.583) and the N.y. Giants (.583). Dallas 36 opening-day wins are ninth all-time in league history. Dallas won 17 consecutive season-opening games from 1965-1981. That streak is the longest opening day win streak in the history of the NFL. The next longest streaks are Miami (11, 1992-02), Detroit (10, 1930-39), New England (10, 2004-13), Chicago (9, 1984-92), Baltimore Colts (8, 1955-62) and Pittsburgh Steelers (8, 2003-10). Dallas lost its first-ever season opener 28-35 against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 24, 1960. HEAD COACHES 2 JIM HARBAUGH (41-14-1, 4th Year) Jim Harbaugh was named the 17th head coach in 49ers history on Jan. 7, 2011. In just three seasons, Harbaugh has tallied a 41-14-1 overall record (5-3 in the postseason), won two NFC West Division titles and one NFC Championship. He followed a 14-4 rookie campaign, which earned him Associated Press 2011 NFL Coach of the year honors, with a 13-5-1 mark in 2012 and a 14-5 record in 2013. Harbaugh is just the second NFL coach to win consecutive division titles in his first two seasons after inheriting a team with a losing record. His 36 regular season wins are the second-most by any coach in NFL history over their first three seasons. Harbaugh logged 18 years of coaching experience prior to joining the 49ers. He was previously the head coach at Stanford (2007-2010), where he led the Cardinal to its first BCS game appearance and victory in the Orange Bowl, in 2010. He was head coach at the University of San Diego (2004-06). Harbaugh started in the NFL as an offensive assistant with the Oakland Raiders (2002-03). His first coaching job came from his father, Jack Harbaugh, at Western Kentucky as a volunteer assistant coach. He played 15 years with the Bears (1987 first round pick), Colts, Ravens, Chargers and Panthers. He appeared in one Pro Bowl and was placed in the Colts Ring of Honor in 2005. In college, he played at Michigan for the legendary Bo Schembechler from 1982-86. His brother, John, is the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens. BAILEY S BOOTS Dan Bailey closed out the 2012 season converting 29-of-31 field goal tries (93.5%). His 29 field goals made in 2012 tied for fourth in a season in franchise history while his 93.5 field goal percentage was second. In 2013 Bailey went 28-of-30 (93.3) and had five games with at least three field goals and one game with five. For his career, Bailey notched 15 games with three-plus field goals - second in team history. He opened 2013 against the N.y. Giants (9/8) with three field goals then moved into second after connecting on three at Kansas City (9/15). He hit three at Detroit (10/27), five against Green Bay (12/15) and three in the finale against Philadelphia (12/29) for 15 career three-field goal games. Four times he came through for Dallas. Bailey s four game-winning field goals were the most by a Dallas Cowboy in a single season and the most by a rookie in NFL history. In 2012 Bailey had four opportunities to do the same, and he came through with 0:02 left in the fourth quarter against Cleveland (11/18) to send the game in overtime, then sealed it with a 38-yard kick with 6:07 remaining in the extra period. The second was at Cincinnati when he hit a 40-yarder as time expired and the third was against Pittsburgh (12/16) with a 21-yarder in overtime. Bailey s previous long streak was 26 and tied Chris Boniol for second in team history. He finished the season with another 21-game streak. At Kansas City (9/15) Bailey was true on three tries, including a pair from 50-plus yards (51 and a career-long 53). Bailey s two 50- yard field goals marked the second time in team history a kicker hit two 50-plus tries in the same game. The first was Eddie Murray at Minnesota, 12/12/93 (51 and 52 yards). Bailey did it twice more after nailing two 53-yarders at Detroit (10/27) and two 50-yarders against Green Bay (12/15). Since 2000, a kicker has hit two-or-more 50-plus yard field goals in a game 57 times, and Bailey s were the 53rd, 55th and 57th occurrences, and he became the 34th different kicker to accomplish it over that span. Bailey is one-of-15 players to do it in multiple games, one-of-eight to do it three times and the only one to do three in the same season. For his career, Bailey is 11-of-16 from 50-plus yards and is atop the club s charts for 50-yarders in a season (six - 2013) and career. MORE RELIABLE IS BETTER Dan Bailey came to Dallas in 2011 as a rookie free agent and immediately earned his spot as the club s place kicker, finishing the season 32-of-37 (86.5%) on field goals for the second-best field goal percentage by a rookie in franchise history. His 32 field goals made were also a club rookie record. He had a streak of 26 consecutive made which were the most by a rookie in NFL history. His second season was an improvement on an already stellar start to a career as he finished with a 93.5 (29-of-31) field goal percentage - second in team history. For his career, Bailey has converted 89-of-98 tries (90.8%), and his 89 field goals made are second in team history. He passed Richie Cunningham with two against Minnesota (11/3) then took second from Chris Boniol with five against Green Bay (12/15). The club did not suffer a turnover in the game and snapped the streak which was the second-longest active streak at the time. SACK ATTACK From 2007-2011 Dallas racked up at least 35 sacks each season, but fell short in 2012, posting 34.
