Youth Olympic Gallery Today, I went to the YOG museum and learnt a lot. I thought that the Olympic was just about games, but I was wrong. It actually about people wanting to promote peace and friendship so that the world would not have so much war. -Xiang Yang P5 Block 238 Hougang Ave 1 #01-292 Singapore 530238 Phone: 62852726 Fax: 62850461 Email: scc@shenghong.org.sg Our Magazine Work Committee Members: Lim Xin Ni, Lim Xin Ying Joshua Law Athena and Chloe, Miss Ng Jodie Loke Caregivers 12 1
A Good Athlete A good athlete should be one with great sportsmanship. A good athlete must be able to believe in himself. But what makes him great? He doesn t play with his mind but with his heart. -Lee Le Ken P3 Miss Sharon and her team members. YOG The Youth Olympic was started to promote friendship among youths. Holding on to the hope that the next generation would bring the world into next era; an era of world peace which the Youth Olympic Games created! Unlike the Olympic Games, the athletes visited Singapore, learning about our heritage and culture. The Games were started not to bring fame to a particular country, but to bring the youth together to help bring the world to a era of peace. - LeTao P5 Madam Chashma and her team members. Captain Ball Chloe has made a gift box for herself. The world of Disney Castle making, story character drawing and painting, magical wands and crowns for the prince and kings. These were the things we did. Xin Ying was painting the drawing of Alice in Wonderland. Before going to play, Mrs Ong put on some videos about the rules of Captain Ball. After the videos, we went to the park. I was convinced that my group will lose because of me. I was appointed as the Captain. I was very afraid that I would get butter-fingers. My team was called Ali Baba. When the game started, Joshua, Yan Xiu and Xiang Yang were appointed as the strikers. They did a good job getting the ball and throwing it fast to each other. The problem was that Cyrus and Xiang Yang were too aggressive and committed many fouls. Joshua and Yan Xiu were more careful. Anu was blocking the other teams captains. Yi Wei was blocking me. I had a good laugh when Yi Wei tried to defend but the ball went backwards and was easy for me to take the ball. However, the second game was a different story. Andi from Biber team got off the Captain s chair and became a striker. In the end, Ali Baba won. During Captain s ball, teamwork and the strategic placing of players were most important. Every player must actively help the team, or the team will be flat. To win a match, the players must work together and listen to your teammates advice. No man is an island; together we can achieve! _- Le Tao P5 Captain Ball Yesterday, I played two rounds of captain ball with the upper primary, We were divided into two groups and we need to play against each other. My team won! I was a little aggressive and I kept breaking the rules just to win. My friends Cyrus did the same. I just felt sorry for the other team because we played rough and apologized to them. I realized that I do not need to cheat in this game. All I need is teamwork and strategies to win. Games are invented to build friendship and respect. It is always nice to make something beautiful and useful. Children were enjoying the process of creation. - Xiang Yang P5 10 3

Today I played fencing. It was my favourite game. I had a lot of fun. I was well prepared as I hit Yi Wei near the bottom. The second time, I did the launch and I shot Yi Wei. I also enjoyed watching my friends playing too! I played the Dart throwing which was my second favourite, I guess. I got a bulls-eye and my friend Kelvin he got two bulls-eye! I also played ping pong, captain ball, Frisbee, golf, relay, shot put, Javelin and finally bowling. Bowling was good but I kept my mother waiting so it did not turn out so well.
