AYC Newsletter Commodore s Corner by Toby Dyal Commodore s Corner October 2015 Hello Fellow boaters. No I haven t put Hyggelig back in the water, slow progress there. The turning colors and the slight crispness of the night air tells me it s time to put things away for the winter. I hope that everyone had the chance to enjoy our local waters this season, whales and other wildlife included. It has been busy. The racing fleet has had a full schedule with some exciting races and beautiful evenings. Thanks go out to all the skippers and crew, Paul Gascoigne for doing a great job planning the courses, and Bruce and Allen for working the White Knight. What a joy! In case you missed it, the Lois Island raft up will be repeated again next year. Martha Coppinger brought her cruiser Gypsy Rose with Bruce Faling and son Link as pilot and crew up river from Hammond to act as host boat. Tom & Liz s Cantata, Curt & Kara s Shearwater, and a nameless utility boat captained by Floyd & Sheryl Holcom rounded out the fleet. Everyone brought such wonderful, tasty food dishes, and conversation, it just blended into a most pleasant time. Thanks Marie for the shrimp salad. If you happened to attend the Astoria Brew Fest you may have observed our pretzel both there. Paul Winiarz came up with an idea to sell them as a fund raiser. With a lot of planning and hard work, Paul, with Curt Yoder s help, had things well in hand. With club members and sea scouts manning the counter, we sold many hundred salty pretzels to the thirsty crowd. It was a huge success! Thanks go out to Paul and Curt for their herculean efforts, and to those who gave of their time. Our next upcoming event will be the commodore s ball October 17 th. So put on you dancing shoes, put a flower on your lapel, bring your sweetheart, invite some friends and have a good time! I would like again to remind everyone to please put your name in for serving on next year s board elections and the general meeting are just around the corner. Page 2
