Recreational Optional Gymnastics of Western Washington Our Mission: RecOp(Recreational Optional) of Western Washington is a competitive gymnastics program that provides gymnasts an environment to develop skills and abilities in gymnastics with quality training and competition experience, while developing confidence and sportsmanship, without strenuous costs or time commitments. Divisions: Recreational /Optional Gymnastics in Western Washington has two primary levels: Intermediate and Advanced. In both divisions the requirements for the events are the same, if the gymnast has higher levels of difficulty in events, they should compete advanced. Examples include saltos on floor, strong front handspring vaults, flyaways on bars, backwalkovers or salto dismounts from beam, would all constitute as advanced skills requiring the gymnasts to compete advanced. Beginning this season, 2011-2012, we are offering a Novice level for our beginning gymnasts. Judging criteria will be based on the current criteria for intermediate and advanced divisions. Meets for the novice level will be held separately from the intermediate and advanced meets in order to minimize the size of meets and eliminating the need for 3 sessions in one day. Gyms who host an intermediate/advanced meet are not required to host a novice session, and novice sessions may be held on weekends when no intermediate/advanced sessions are offered. Intermediate gymnasts will have a set start value of 10. 00 on beam and floor( as long as requirements are met), a 9.0 for a one bar routine, 9.5 for usage of both bars but without support on high bar, and 10.00 for both bars with support. Start values on vault will be based upon the vault chosen for competition, 9.0 for a handstand fall flat on mats and 10.00 for a front handspring. Intermediate gymnasts may perform bonus skills in their routines in order to practice competing advanced skills, but judging will be based solely upon technique and execution not on the skill level of the gymnast. Coaches should make every effort to place gymnasts in their appropriate level. Coaches who repeatedly compete gymnasts in inappropriate levels, based on their collective skills, will be asked by the board to move gymnasts to the next level. Guidelines to Hosting a Rec Op Meet These guidelines are for all levels, novice, intermediate and advanced. Please remember the purpose of this program and our responsibility as judges and coaches to provide safety for all our athletes. All gymnasts participating in Rec Op competition must have a signed Release of Liability Form presented to the host gym. A copy of this form is in this manual as well as posted on our website under Handbook Item number 6a. Equipment Standards Vault Runway should not be less than 75 feet in length. If your vault runway does not meet this requirement it must be listed on the flyer for the meet. You also must provide an appropriate Level 4 vaulting system, meeting the minimum height requirements 36 of the base mat. Several 8 inch stacked mats is not acceptable nor is this safe for our gymnasts.

Bars must be round uneven adjustable bars. If you do not have side steps on your bars, please place a solid box which can easily be moved for adjustment of the high bar. We really do not want our coaches or gymnasts balancing on the side rails or standing on chairs to adjust bars, it just is not safe. Beam must have at least one side and one end which has proper matting for dismounts. The dismount mat at the end of the beam should be a minimum length of 12 feet and the side dismount mat should be a width of 8 feet minimum for the safety of our gymnasts. If you can not provide these standards it is necessary to inform the possible attending gyms on the meet flyer so they may make adequate adjustments in plenty of time or choose to not attend the meet. Also dismount areas must not interfere with another competitive event. Host gyms must provide at least 2 beams so gymnasts may warm up. Spring Boards should be available for both bars and beam mounts. If you have only one board available for the meet please indicate on the meet flyer so gyms may choose to bring their own boards. Meet Information/Registration a) Gyms Hosting a Rec Op Meet need to have their flyers presented at least 6 weeks prior to the event. b) Flyers must contain any equipment issues afore here mentioned. c) All Registrations and payments must be received by the Host no later than close of business hours on Friday three weeks prior to a meet. d) Meet times including session times but be finalized and posted one week prior to the event. e) Host gyms must send a confirmation email stating entries have been received. f) Meet flyers to be posted on the website must be sent to the webmaster at least 1 month prior to the event. g) Meet results do not have to be posted on the websites. There are privacy issues when posting meet results, which indicate names, ages of children as well as the location of where they train. h) You may choose to Host a Novice Meet, but it may not be included with the Intermediate and Advanced Sessions. Novice Meets must be held on a different day, or may be held on a different weekend. i) Competition Entry Fees have been raised to $30.00 except for State which is $35.00 j) Admission Fees have been raised to $3.00 Adult and $2.00 per child. k) CD and I Pod connections for stereos are now a requirement. l) Start Value Flasher Cards at all Events. m) Bump rotate events. This means there can not be an individual draw for the events but only a club draw for where they begin. n) Competitions primarily need to be scheduled on Sundays with overflow happening on Saturdays but only 2 sessions per day. Be sure to have sufficient room in your gym to host a meet and enough help so the meet runs as quickly and smoothly as possible. A separate awards room would be helpful if it can be managed. Be considerate to traveling gyms regarding late running sessions on Sunday evenings. Have some refreshments/hospitality for coaches and judges. Timed Warm-Ups Provide a stop watch and volunteers, at all events, to time warm ups. Gymnasts are allowed 1 minute per gymnast to warm up, however the team may choose to take this time in a block or individually for each gymnast. Open Stretch is 15 minutes. Beam should only have one touch, 30 second warm ups, when there is the availability of warm up beams.

Judges Judges need to come to these meets prepared and professional. Your appearance, timeliness, and attitude all play a significant role in how you are perceived. If you appear unorganized the coaches and parents will question your scoring and your ability. If you present in a professional manner you establish a repoir of competency and much less inquiry. Judges should have their own materials, start value cards, judging cards, and the new handbook. There will be a Head Judge assigned to the meets this year. The head judge will perform these responsibilities: a) Serve as the liaison between the coaches and the judges. b) Attend the Coaches Meeting c) Present a Judges Meeting which will explain how the meet is proceeding, any rule changes, equipment issues, judges table placement, give professional reminders and advise. d) Handle all inquiries. e) Report those names and gyms to Christy or Pamela who consistently have gymnasts competing in the inappropriate skill level. Inquiry Regulations Coaches have the right to submit an inquiry form. Inquiry forms must be made available at all meets, but a copy is in this manual as well as Item Number 6b on the website under Handbook. a) Inquiries may only be made on the Start Value, Credit for Bonus Skills, Special Requirements Credit, unusual occurrence ( such as the music stopping), compositional deductions and falls. b) Inquiries are submitted directly to the Meet Director who submits to the Head Judge, who will then address the issue with the judge of the event. Coaches are not to inquire with the judges of the events directly. c) Judges decisions are final. Routines may not be repeated, despite the possible proof of video, gymnastics does not have the ability of instant replay, we must rely on the judges to do their best and remember it is possible for everyone to make a mistake. Most coaches do not script the routines as they occur and sometimes the gymnast inadvertently misses an element they typically have in their routines. Also sometimes a judge may miss the element or record a slightly lower completion such as a ¾ of a turn versus a full turn which would significantly change the value of the routine. All Meets will require a 6 judge panel, ( 2 judges on floor and beam) State requirement is 2 judge panel on all events. 2 judges from the same gym facility may not be placed on the same panel for State Only. State judges must have judged the event a minimum of 2 times previously within this year 2011-2012. Judges Fees are now $50.00 per session and $10.00 gas stipend if traveling more than 30 miles 1 way. Christy is willing to assist any gym with meet assignments, just contact her. Judges will be listed on the website as to their status, event recommendation and contact information. AWARDS For all levels awards has a tendency to be quite extensive. We have voted to provide awards to the top 60% of each age group on each event and all around. Age Groups should be no more than approximately 15 gymnasts per age group. Try to be as equally distributed in age breakdowns as you can. We use the age of the gymnast on the date of the competition not the date of state. Mismatched awards are very unsatisfactory. Plan and present awards which are consistent throughout the age groups and sessions for your meet.

Team Awards are based upon the top 4 scores of each division, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced. If hosting State there needs to be a theme and decorations, goodie bags. Make it Special it is State!! This was what was available at the time this booklet was being prepared. DEDUCTIONS AND EVALUATIONS OF ROUTINES COACHING NEUTRAL DEDUCTIONS Coaches we have so much excitement and enthusiasm for our gymnasts that sometimes we are making corrections and suggestions during routines. Please remember this is a general deduction from the score. Coaches or gymnasts may not speak directly to a gymnast competing...3 Coaches may not obstruct the view of the judge either while spotting or being supportive.5 Mounting boards must be removed upon mount for the safety of the gymnast...3 Spotting Deductions will vary between the level of assistance.3-.5 Spotting : If a coach does the skill for the gymnast the.5 deduction will apply as well as no value for the element performed. If the coach spots the gymnast and a fall occurs there will be both the Spot Deduction of.3-.5 and a fall deduction of.5 applied. STANDARDS OF ALL LEVELS OF COMPETITION A minimum score of a 5.00 for all divisions, Novice, Intermediates and Advanced will be given at any meet. However if a gymnast scratches an event she will not receive a score and a zero will be entered into the scoring system. Novice and Intermediates may not receive points for adding bonus to their routines, and could cost themselves in technique and execution deductions for adding these elements. You may not double dip an element for special requirement value. Such as if you do Split leap tuck jump, this will fulfill only the Split Leap Requirement or the Dance Series requirement but not both. Also we do not penalize our gymnasts for having several combinations. A Split Leap/Split Jump is one requirement on beam and floor and a Dance Series is a Special Requirement on Beam and Floor. However if a girl performs two combinations such as Switch Leap, Wolf Jump, and then later in the routine performs tuck jump, wolf full. She is not penalized because the leap was connected to another skill. GENERAL DEDUCTIONS OF THE GYMNAST Leotard Picks or Hair Adjustments is.1 each time Failure to Present Before and After a Routine.1 each time Fall..5 Grasping the Apparatus to Avoid a Fall.3 Missing a Value Part(Special Requirement)..4 off Start Value

Considerations for Rewarding Value Part and or Bonus when a fall occurs. If the element is completed prior to the fall, the soles of the feet have made contact with the beam or floor or in the case of a rolling element the seat bones have contact we award the value part and the bonus but take the.5 deduction for a fall. If however they do not complete the element no bonus is given for attempting a skill, and no value part will be awarded. This also applies to turning elements. If the pirouette ( turn on one foot) has not been completed when the fall occurs and the free leg has not touched down the element will not receive value part or bonus credit. An element will receive Special Requirement Value Part only once during a routine, however you may utilize the same element but in different combination twice in a routine to receive connection bonus. If an element is repeated for a third time it will receive a.1 overuse deduction. Clarifications for skills with flight: included but not limited to dive roll, dive cartwheel, dive front walkover, round off, handsprings, all aerial and all saltos. VAULT REQUIREMENTS AND VALUE TABLE GENERAL INFORMATION 1. A gymnast will be allowed to perform 2 vaults and receive the score from the best vault. This is not an average of the two vaults but best vault performed 2. A gymnast is allowed up to three attempts as long as the board has not been touched. This is called a balk and is allowed. However if she runs onto the board the vault is void. 3. If only one hand touches the vault there is a 1.00 deduction from the score. If no hands touch the vault it is void. 4. Yurchenko vaults must have proper matting with a correct Velcro Round Off Mat on the runway and the Safety Zone around the Board. 5. Judge the Vault you see, not what is expected. If the vault is supposed to be Tuck Tsuk, but the position of the gymnast does not meet the requirements for a tuck position evaluate the vault based on the position seen. Same as those vaults attempted with a twist. If it is suppose to be a full twist but the completion is ½ the vault needs to be judged from the Start Value of a ½ twist not a full. 6. You must land on the soles of your feet for the vault to have value. If you fall after your soles of your feet touch then we take the deduction for a fall.5, but if the feet do not touch the vault is void. 7. Tsukahara vaults do not receive an arm bend deduction when the lead arm bends slightly to perform the entry onto the vault. INTERMEDIATE BARS Special Requirements 6 Different Elements Use of only one bar results in a Start Value of 9.00, Two Bars without Support 9.5 and Two Bars with Support 10.00 1. It is intended that all elements and connections be performed with maximum amplitude and execution. 2. All execution and/or amplitude errors leading to a fall, but not balance errors leading to a fall will be deducted. 3. Deductions for FALLS, EXTRA SWINGS, or lack of continuity in required elements due to a fall are in addition to the execution and or amplitude deductions. General deductions apply in addition to or in the absence of specific deductions. 4. After a fall, judging resumes from the point of the interruption. 5. Elements are only those recognized in the Code of Points or variations of specific recognized gymnastics elements from all competitive levels. 6. Specific Deduction to Bars is the repetition of the same element..1 each time. In example, back hip circle back hip circle, would be a.1 deduction and only one of these elements may count for Special Requirements. However if a clear hip circle to 60 degrees was performed, bonus, and directly connected to clear hip to handstand, bonus, this would not receive repetition deduction because these elements are considered different. 7. Jump to Front Support on either the low bar or to the high bar may be done for bar placement, however does not receive an element value, therefore does not meet special requirements and will receive.1 in continuity deduction. A jump from the board to back hip circle however will receive element value for the back hip circle mount only. 8. Leg Cuts are not elements but a connection ( like a chasse on floor). However if the leg brushes the bar during the leg cut it is.2 in deduction for brushing the apparatus. 9. A cast single leg or double leg shoot through is 1 element. 10. A stride circle may be performed in either direction forward or backward with no deduction as long as it ends in clear support. ADVANCED BARS Special Requirements 6 Different Elements Use of only one bar results in an 8,00 Start Value, two bars with no support 8.5, and Two bars with support 9.00. Advanced gymnasts utilize bonus to acquire a 10.00 start value. 1.

Determining Angles: Casting and Circling Elements 1. The angle achieved is determined by a line drawn from the shoulders to the lowest body part, abdomen, hips, knees or feet. 2. If the cast is initiated by piking the hips upward, with no attempt at driving the legs backward-upward(legs hang down in a severe pike), this will be considered to be incorrect technique of the cast and will receive no element value or special requirement. 3. For determining bonus of clear hip circles and casting elements place a mark on your paper to help you determine the angle of the element upon its fullest extension. Refer to the diagrams included in the manual for determination of the highest bonus value of the element. 4. Be aware of hand grips position, this may change the element executed. 5. All Bonus Connected elements will receive only.1 for the connection. Due to the nature of bars all elements should be connected, however double dipping elements is not allowed for Special Requirements and therefore will not be allowed for connection bonus either. Example Kip Cast Handstand Clear Hip Kip would receive bonus for the connection of the Kip to the Cast Handstand and bonus for Clear Hip to Kip but would not receive bonus for Cast Handstand to Clear Hip. UNEVEN BARS TECHNIQUE CLARIFICATIONS A. Handstand Pirouette: Will be considered as a separate element from Cast to Handstand but it will be inclusive to a pirouette motion on bars. Therefore a Cast to Handstand within 20 degrees of vertical that includes a ½ pirouette will be worth.3 in bonus and Cast to Handstand to full pirouette will be worth.4 in Bonus. If the element does not reach 20 degrees of vertical it is not a Handstand Pirouette but a poorly executed ½ over the bar with several technical deductions. B. Uprise to High Bar: A gymnast may choose to perform this skill to a handstand position or to clear support position. Most often this skill would be followed by another bonus skill such as a clear hip on high bar, but it could be performed with a back hip circle on high bar which would not be bonus for the back hip or connection bonus. C. Switch Kip: Executed mount with a half turn prior to the kipping position, may choose any hand grip to begin this skill. Worth.1 in bonus D. Long Hang Kip and Glide Kip: These elements are considered different and each is worth.1 in bonus, however a glide kip or long hang kip may be counted for bonus only 1 time in the routine and may only count one time as an element. E. Mill Circle: Recognized Element may be performed front or back but execute with straight legs. A Mill Circle is required to start and finish in clear support above the bar. F. Cast Squat on: This will be counted as one element and will not count as a Cast Element. A Cast Squat on does not require full extension in the cast but to execute high hip angle to perform this skill. Also may be performed in a pike position. G. Cast Handstand: This element may achieve bonus, important to record the angle at full extension of the skill. The Cast Handstand as an element may be counted only once in a routine and achieve bonus based upon the angle of extension only once in a routine. The angle must be within 20 degrees of vertical to achieve credit for bonus. If it does not achieve 20 degrees of vertical it is considered a Cast and counts once in a routine as an element but does not meet specifications of a bonus element. H. Cast Shoot Through Single or Double Leg: This element is counted as a single element in preparation for another element. The Cast is not required to be in full extension from the bar due to the nature of the element. Instead we are looking for a high extension in the hips to be able to bring the leg through the arms in a tucking to the chest position. If the leg is being internally rotated to perform the skill this would be a deduction. I. Clear Hip: A clear hip has several options for bonus so it is very important to determine angle of completion, typically this is at the time of shifting in the hands, however there could be a late shift so watch the angle from shoulders to the lowest body part. A clear hip that extends to horizontal will receive.1 in bonus but if

the angle is below horizontal there are several deductions for amplitude, bent arms, etc which would apply. The Clear Hip performed between horizontal and 70 degrees will receive.2 in bonus. Clear Hip to handstand will receive.3 in bonus. Remember the Handstand must be within 20 degrees of vertical. J. Salto Dismounts: The release of the High Bar should be at the extension of the swing to cause the body to rise above the High Bar for the execution of the Salto. There will be amplitude deductions for any salto dismounts performed below the level of the apparatus. K. Toe On Circle: A toe on circle element will complete with a slight knee bend to allow the position of the body to return to the level of the bar. This is not a knee bend technical deduction unless it is significant. SPECIFIC BAR DEDUCTIONS GENERAL BODY POSITION FAULTS Legs Separated >.2 Hip Angle.>.2 Arch.>.2 Arms/Legs Bent.>.3 Shoulders/Head Angle >.3 Foot Form..>.05 DISMOUNT LANDING Insufficient Height.1 each Step or Hops.1 each Balance Error..1 each Insufficient Extension..1 each CASTS AND SWINGS Below Horizontal.1 each Extra Swings...1 each Failure to Tap at Bottom of Swing.1 each CIRCLES Failure to Show Hollow Position Throughout the Circle Element..1 each GLIDES / GLIDE KIPS Failure to lead with feet.1 each Insufficient Extension..1 each Failure to close legs at end.1 each 0 90 Angle at time of completion/extension Repeated Element...1 each Feet Hitting the Floor/Apparatus.. >.3 Stop/ Break in Routine.. >.3 Climb Up(exception after missed squat on where a fall deduction has already been taken)...3 each Prompting..3 each Spot Assistance. >.3-.5 Fall....5 each

INTERMEDIATE BEAM Special Requirements: (.4 each) Mount, Dismount, 2 different Acro Skills, Balance Skill ( must hold position for at least 2 seconds), Split Leap/Jump Minimum 90 Angle, ½ turn on toe, Dance Series ( this must be directly connected) If all of the Special Requirements are achieved the Start Value will be a 10.00. There is no bonus for Intermediates. 1. Mounting Boards must be removed, (even if these are folding mats) upon completion of the mount. There will be a.3 deduction added to the final score for not removing the board. 2. Mounts may be achieved from several optional surfaces, as long as the optional surface is stable. 3. Salto Dismounts must be above the level of the apparatus. If they are not performed above the level of the apparatus there will be height/amplitude deductions in technical execution. 4. Turns must be performed with the base leg in releve. Turns are complete at the time the heel of the base foot drops, the gymnast steps out of the turn, and the hips stop rotating. You must be watching the hips for clarification of when the turns begin and end. If there is more than 45 degrees of a turn incomplete the root value is decreased. If only ¾ of a Full Turn is completed the Turn will be considered only ½ not Full. 5. Balance Moves must hold for 2 seconds. There are several types of balance moves, such as scales and arabesques but also, Body Waves that finish on one foot and hold, knees scales on beam, splits with no hands support on beam, candle, prone arch no hand support, single leg tuck stands, ronde jambe etc. Balance Skills with a free leg must be at or above horizontal, if below there is a deduction of up to.2. Also Scales not in tight arch position will have an up to.2 deduction applied. 6. Minimum angle for Split Jump or Leap to receive Special Requirement is only 90 degrees. 7. Pike, Wolf and Tuck Jumps should all achieve horizontal but receive Value Part Credit if they achieve within 20 degrees of horizontal. 8. Handstands do achieve Value Part if they reach within 20 degrees of vertical and the legs come together, but they would receive technical execution deductions of no hold in handstand.1 and lack of vertical also.1. 9. To receive credit for a Special Requirement one foot needs to land on the beam, or the seat bones in the case of a rolling element, must land on the beam. ADVANCED BEAM Special Requirements: (.4 each) Mount, Dismount, 2 Different Acro Skills, Balance Skill ( must hold balance position for a minimum of 2 seconds), Split/Leap or Jump Minimum 120 degrees, Full Turn on Toe, Dance Series ( must be directly connected) If all Special Requirements are achieved the Start Value is a 9.00. Advanced Gymnasts have the opportunity to earn bonus based upon the level of difficulty of their routines. 4. Turns are complete at the time the heel of the base foot drops and the hips stop rotating. Tight Arch on Scale not shown..>.2, Free leg not horizontal or above >.2. 6. Minimum angle for Split Jump or Leap to receive Special Requirement is only 120 degrees. 7. Pike, Wolf and Tuck Jumps should all achieve horizontal but receive Value Part Credit if they achieve within 20 degrees of horizontal. They however will not receive bonus value if the legs do not reach horizontal.

SKILL CLARIFICATIONS Leg positions, posture/body position, and/ or amplitude requirements must be fulfilled in order to be awarded value part as listed. In some cases, appropriate execution and amplitude deductions would be taken rather than recognizing it as a different element. A. Holds: If an element requiring a 2 second hold is not held for 2 seconds, it will not receive balance skill requirement value. B. Flight Elements: If an element requires flight but fails to show flight( a moment when both the hands and feet are free of the beam,) then the element is awarded value part for the actual element performed. C. Leaps and Jumps: The take off position determines whether the leap or jump was performed in a side or cross position. When turning a leap or jump for bonus value watch the hips and the feet for late take off of the element thereby not achieving the complete circular degree required. D. Turns: Base leg needs to be in releve and performed with a step out. Once the heel drops onto the beam during a turn, it is considered complete and there is a.05 deduction for the heel drop. Appropriate value part credit is awarded for the degree of the turn completed prior to the heel drop. E. Cross Position: Cross Position is facing the end of the balance beam with shoulders across the width of the balance beam. F. Side Position: Side position is facing off the side of the balance beam with shoulders parallel with the length of the balance beam. G. Saltos Backward Dismounts: All Backward salto DISMOUNTS performed off the end of the beam, but starting facing in towards the length of the beam, may be performed with a two foot or one foot (swing through) take off. H. Gainer Salto Backward Dismount: All Gainer Saltos backward performed off the side of the beam have a one foot take off ( swing through). To be considered a Gainer Salto off the end of the beam, the gymnast must be facing out and performing a salto backward toward the end of the beam. I. Switch Leap: The first leg must swing forward to a minimum of 45 degrees prior to swinging backward to a split for value part credit. J. Ring Leap: The rear foot must be at the height of the head and there must be a head release action to achieve value part. K. Sheep Jump: Both feet must be at the height of the head and have a head release for value part. L. Pike Jump: In order to receive value part credit, the only specific requirement is both legs extended directly in front in a straight leg position with hip closure. M. Straight, Arched, Beat and Stretched Jump: Are all the same element and receive Value part credit only once during a routine. N. Connection Bonus for Advanced: Connection bonus will be given when two bonus elements are directly connected to each other. Direct connection means flow from one element to the other without foot adjustments or coming through a vertical stand from one element to the next. 0 45 90 180 120 Turn Completion is when heel drops. 90

INTERMEDIATE FLOOR Special Requirements (.4 each) 2 Different Tumbling Passes with at least one element having flight in each pass, Split Leap or Jump with minimum requirement of 120 degrees, full turn, Dance/Acro Series, Dance Series If all Special Requirements are met the Start Value for this routine will be a 10.00 1. Out of Bounds Deduction applies to Floor with.1 being deducted if stepping out of bounds. Floor Lines need to be marked on any additional matting being placed on the floor. 2. Failure to complete the routine with your music or lack of coordination of routine with the music will result in an up to deduction of.3. 3. Split Leap and or Jumps are required to meet a 120 degree angle to receive value part credit. 4.. 5. Flight elements must be performed with both hands and feet off the apparatus at the same time. ADVANCED FLOOR Special Requirement s (.4 each) 2 Different Tumbling Passes with a minimum of 2 fast flight elements in each pass, Split Leap or Jump meeting the minimum split of 150 degrees, full turn on toe, Dance/Acro Series, Dance Series. If all Special Requirements are met the Start Value is a 9.00 with the opportunity to earn 1.00 in bonus credit. 1. Out of Bounds Deduction applies to Floor with.1 being deducted if stepping out of bounds. Floor Lines need to be marked on any additional matting being placed on the floor. 2. Failure to complete the routine with your music or lack of coordination of routine with the music will result in an up to deduction of.3. 3. Split Leap and or Jumps are required to meet a 150 degree angle to receive value part credit. 4. Turns must be performed with the base leg in releve and followed by a step out. The angle of completion will be determined at the time the heel drops and the hips stop rotating. There is a.05 deduction for the base heel drop prior to step out. 5. Flight elements must be performed with both hands and feet off the apparatus at the same time. SKILL CLARIFICATIONS: A. Switch Leap: The first leg must swing forward to a minimum of 45 degrees prior to swinging backward to a split position. Bonus value.1 B. Schushunova: Must show a side split position of 180 degrees, then legs rotate rearward to attain a stretched body position in horizontal before landing in prone. A slight forward lean of the body, rather than a strict vertical torso, is acceptable. C. Popa: A 360 degree straddle jump with a full turn would receive bonus credit of.2 D. Split Leap landing on one to while holding the front leg to an immediate forward roll: This element will receive.1 in bonus credit if the split leap achieves 180 degrees. E. Switch Ring Leap: The second split must be with the rear foot reaching the height of the head and a release of the head. Bonus Value.2 F. Kick over front Salto to Sit ( Homer) : is not considered a salto element and would not receive bonus but would receive value part credit as an element. 0 9090 45 9 90 150 180 (bonus)

NOVICE DIVISION This year the Novice Division will be competing in some special competitions designed specifically for them. Please keep advised of the Novice Schedule. We welcome the Novice gymnasts in to the program. 1. All Novice routines, except Vault Values, will begin from a 10.00 Start Value as long as they have performed the Special Requirements. 2. There is absolutely no bonus involved in the Novice Division. 3. The focus of the Novice Division will be on proper technique and form not on advancement of skills. 4. Judging will be exact deductions, to allow, new judges to become more familiar with recording routines, versus determining the extent of the angle of incompletion or fault. 5. There will be the idealism of placing the gymnasts in the correct order of placement, not as much emphasis on the range of scores. 6. If several skills being performed are of difficulty, the gymnast s coach will be confronted by the Head Judge to place the child in the more appropriate Intermediate level. Remember this level is for the our youngest and newest members to gymnastics to have a place to compete. Vault A. The Run will be evaluated for Novice Division. B. There will be three acceptable vaults at this level. 1. Run jump to the Mat Stack Landing on your Feet..8.00 SV 2. Handstand Flat Back.10.00 SV 3. Handspring over the Horse 10.00 SV ( There will not be bonus credit given to performing this vault. Instead this vault will be critically judged so only perform this vault with supreme confidence.) Novice Bars; 1. Special Requirement will be the performance of 5 different elements on bars. 2. You may choose to utilize the High Bar, but again the evaluation of these routines will be based solely on technique not the difficulty of an element. There is absolutely no bonus nor difficulty value recognized in this level. 3. Safety of these gymnasts must be your priority.
