B.A.S.E. CAMP Beach Arts Sportsmanship Entertainment Garry Glaub & Staff - email: gglaub@cox.net Girls & Boys - Ages 5 to 12 Pre-register by the preceding Thursday! Led by Coach Garry Glaub, a Laguna Beach Community Services tennis instructor who has been teaching tennis in town for 20 years, BASE CAMP is designed to keep your child learning and growing in athletics. The morning will be filled with a variety of sports, including tennis, dodgeball, kickball and badminton. After lunch, we walk to Goff Cove Beach behind the Montage Resort for two of the afternoons from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Goff Cove is facing south, with very small waves, a full-time lifeguard and was chosen specifically for your child's safety. We sit immediately beside the lifeguard stand and children are not allowed to go above waist deep. The other two afternoons, we watch family-oriented, kid-friendly movies. While improvement of hand-eye coordination is a concern of the camp, the emphasis is on Sportsmanship! "It's not how you win or lose but how you play the game." COACH GARRY emphasizes fun and humor, but above all, following the rules! FULL-DAY CAMPERS should bring lunch and snacks daily. HALF-DAY CAMPERS should bring snacks daily. The emphasis of this tennis camp will be on learning strokes, rules and sportsmanship in a fun atmosphere to begin the journey of youth tennis players, with a goal of future success in the game involving physical prowess and mental strength! Coach Garry Glaub played collegiate tennis at the NCAA Division I level. He has 30 years of coaching experience and has spent the last 20 years coaching in Laguna Beach. His teaching style focuses on fun and stroke production. Location: MM-CTS STROKES - forehand, backhand, serve, volley, and overhead smash. RULES - learn about scoring, what the lines are for, how to play and how to get to the next level. The emphasis of this tennis camp will be on playing the game of tennis which involves self-reliance, strategy and problem-solving in addition to stroke production, including a variety of spins. After 12 hours of instruction, camp will culminate with an actual tournament experience opportunity during the weekend following the camp at a local novice or satellite tournament; participation is optional. The goal is for these students to play high school tennis, and that tournament experience is vital before high school. Coach Garry Glaub played collegiate tennis at the NCAA Division I level. Summer Camps & Sports SUMMER VOLLEYBALL CAMPS All camps led and directed by Lance Stewart, a long time Southern California Volleyball coach with over 25 years experience, ten CIF Titles, two National Titles, plus numerous league titles. He is also the Director of the 900sqft Volleyball Club in Laguna Beach.
