The mascot holds a local historical connection to the P-40 Warhawk airplane flown by northeast Louisiana s General Claire Chennault and the Flying Tigers of WWII. The Warhawk is also symbolic of the red-shouldered hawk, a local predatory bird commonly found nee\sting along Bayou DeSiard and soaring above ULM s athletic facitilities. ULM s Warhawk moniker is the only one at the NCAA Division I level. Prior to becoming the ULM Warhawks, the school competed as the Northeast Louisiana Indians. 11
